- AviationExplore... - RADAR CONTACT 1960 Era Video.
This 1960's FAA DOT film shows the operation, capabilities, and limitations of radar. It demonstrates that by understanding radar, the pilot can more effectively use its valuable assistance. Illustrates why the use of transponders in today's modern air traffic control system is essential for flight safety.
NOTE - It is unusual that the FAA would use a Cessna with a REG # that contains 666!
Love these old FAA Films... better acting back then too
I have just started reading Arthur Hailey's Airport and came here to clarify some technical moments, specifically the one at 18:45. It seems those chips were used before transponders appeared to mark planes on the screen manually. Great vid, watched it in full, it was of great help!
This film is from the 1970s not from the 1960s. That Beech Bonanza (N9007V) is a V35B model manufactured 1970-1982.
I like the references to Roanoke and Piedmont Airlines.
Piedmont exists to this day contracted as American operating EJR145's and Dash 8's
You do need a headset and, NO controller talks that slow. Most of the time its a chore to understand them for the speed with which they speak.
Good one! Thanks.
Awesome!
Is this acting or did pilots really not wear headgear (helmet/microphone/etc) in 1960?
Wearing Headsets in general aviation wasn't as commonplace as today, general aviation was look at in a more casual light than commercial and military aviation....that was until the 1980's when many aircraft manufacturers were getting sued for all sorts of things and people became more paranoid about everything.
Wlupon bnda ni zaman dulu punya, but still buleh tayang dlm kelas area radar..
I have a question. How do you get to produce an HD video with a 1960 film?HD 1080P....
