    i found this to be a significant improvement from the first ship video. an addition that i think would be of benefit would be to have a link for your crew tutorial video(s) in your description, as well as shouting out that video during the intro/outro. just some thing like 'hey in addition to this ship redesign i have a crew management video that you should check out to fully understand why i place crew quarters where i do. i'll leave a link in the description' right just something simple to help direct more traffic to your past videos as well as adding more context to the video without having to increase the length

    Hey, this was really good. I'm enjoying this series. I would like to suggest playing out the fight between the old versus new ships at a slower speed and showing off the crew roles in action. Additionally, can you include a price and crew quantity comparison for the two ship versions near the end?

    I'm enjoying this series and I think this video is an improvement over the last one. I appreciate how you explained your reasoning. One piece of feedback is that your redesigns don't stick to the credit/material/crew limitations of the original ships. I don't think that's a problem necessarily as it gives the original builder something to work towards, but I do think some transparency would be helpful. Please consider showing us the credit/material/crew costs of the original ship and the redesigned ship for context. (I mention both materials and credits because certain materials are limited in career mode and credits give a good overall sense of the ship value.) Thanks for the video!

And I'll agree that this episode of Pimp My Ship was very satisfying to watch compared to the last one. Keeping these videos at least 10+ minutes seems to be the Goldilocks zone.

    I really like this series. Only thing I would request is that you have more hard data onscreen. Side by side numbers for cost, crew, energy, storage, dps, production etc. I know the process of ship building is messy but having the video broken up into sections for each of these categories would also be nice.

    Wow, I'm able to follow along for most of this. First off, yeah, the original design was horrible in terms of pathing/doors. I also agree about missile factories, it's just better to have them on your cargo/mothership, but even more I've found it's not really worth putting missiles on a front line fighter or cavalry/interceptor - they're better on motherships and railgun artillery pieces. I have to ask though, why you prefer batteries for PDC's when placing them near a middle or large power plant would deliver much more energy per refill trip? Is it due to their capacity? Are you accepting submissions at all? I have a beam interceptor I'd love to see improved or my main line battleship/tank that screens for my mothership could certainly use more durability.

    • @thatonekmc

      I am still accepting submission on my discord. But I am backlogged a lot.
      What do you mean by PDC's?

    • @Brigand231
      @Brigand231 2 года назад +1

      @@thatonekmc Point Defense Cannons. In real life, they're called C-RAM (Counter Rocket Artillery and Mortar), but in science fiction, they're often called PDCs or PDGs for Point Defense Guns. I never really noticed that Cosmoteer simply calls them "Point Defense".

    • @thatonekmc
      @thatonekmc  2 года назад +2

      @@Brigand231 Using a capacitor for PD is much better because of the erratic power need that comes with them. Having the PD near a reactor does not do much unless it is right against it because of the power consumption and lack of power capacity. Also they would be using up vital space and are not tough so they won't help defend against taken damage.

    Will you add the blueprint to your Steam folder?
    One good thing would be to show the final energy, storage and crew assignments. Maybe with some words for each.
    And is there a reason why the big reactor don't connect the two lower sides of the ship? It has only a door to the left one. Forgot a door or planned for some reason?
    Edit: btw thanks great video^^

    • @thatonekmc
      @thatonekmc  2 года назад +1

      Nice catch, looks like I forgot to connect that corridor on the left. It does not effect combat at all. The big reactor has no reason to connect to the lower half of the ship because I have another reactor there meeting the power needs and having crew travel that far would be a waste.
      I will add the Pimp My Ship ships to the pack.

  • @almightyhydra
    @almightyhydra 2 года назад +7

    I'm not convinced about skimping on side armour. The career mode throws plenty of multi-ship fights at you, or you can get caught off-guard by a random pirate coming at you from an angle and it can take you a bit of time to turn around; if the enemy can take out an engine block (or worse!) with a few shots, that gets expensive quickly. Much better IMHO to lose 5 m/s speed in exchange for much cheaper repairs after each battle.

    • @arjengerritsen5039
      @arjengerritsen5039 2 года назад +1

      You don't need a lot of side armor. But this ship could use some small pieces on the rear engines. But overall the ship was massively improved.

    • @daanstrik4293
      @daanstrik4293 7 месяцев назад

      @@arjengerritsen5039I’m not even sure about that massively.
      Not because I think mr youtuber lacks the ability to mind you, but because the requirment of maintaining the shape of the original ship puts a lot of limitations on what he can do (mostly seen with the storage which was used to fill empty space)
      Ultimately he improved the offensive capabilities of this ship a ton. And the manouverability improved a lot as well. But to achieve this he needed more difficult to aquire resources and significantly reduced the ships defensive capabilities (removal of flak, some PD, and side armour).
      I’d say this ship is more of a sidegrade rather than an obvious upgrade. But I personally value alpha strike capabilities and speed much higher than defences. So its an upgrade i’ll take.

    Tell what you are doing before you are speeding up and what you've done after.
    I also find that you change the design of the ship too much. I think it would be better to redesign a part of the ship in 1 video. And than in the next videos, apply the same techniques "learned" in previous videos, so the 2nd video has two parts redesigned. The third one 3 parts and so on.

    I think this redesign would be great for PVP, considering you kept mentioning cost. The original ship is just awful. Crew having to walk through so many systems just to deliver power. The PVP between themselves at the end was clear proof of that.
    Would only be useful as a flanker in career (grand admiral), but definitely way overpowered if used to just get behind enemies to shoot up the rear. Nothing wrong with being overpowered, but I would split the ship to make 2 smaller flankers instead, because in career, crew is the limitation, not resources (price). More flankers needed to deal with the hard pulls of 3 large ships or more with multiple cockpits.
