Ford GPW Crankshaft.....Welding and Grinding Rear Main Seal Surface

- In this video I have a Ford GPW crankshaft in the Storm Vulcan Crankshaft Grinder. I weld and grind rear main seal surfaces all the time but this one gave me some trouble. Lots of porosity as soon as I started to tig weld. The crankshaft appeared clean but gave me a lot of trouble. I ground it clean and was finally able to lay in some 7018 to make a good buildup of material to grind. After careful grinding of this Jeep Crankshaft the final surface is defect free and smooth, the perfect surface for a rear main seal to ride against. This should fix the problem they were having with a leaky rear main seal. A quick polish of the rod and main journals on this crankshaft with a scotchbrite belt made everything better and this should be a good crank for a long time.

Talk with Jack Collins this morning, and now that I got a scan on Thursday that showed zero cancer, maybe a trip east can be planed, Best to you & Maria in 2024, Bear.
Beautiful work as usual Brian you are a talented man.

This makes me happy. Great job as usual. Merry Christmas to you and yours my friend
Good to see you back! 😊👍🏼
Thanks for watching
Glad you're back. Great information as always.
Much appreciated!
Great job Brian!
Hercules crank is in the machine now, then yours next for polishing
Great service for great cause.
Yes, that is why I had to sneak it in between grinding jobs
Your a good man and very skilled
appreciate you watching
Nice repair on the seal area, sad about the rest of it, should never get like that in a rebuilt engine. Like you said, make sure it's all CLEAN and use some addembly lube when it goes back together,
I am seeing a lot of problems these days from other shops. Can't understand why things have gotten so bad lately. At least the rear main seal area is perfect.
@@metalshaperJeep Sadly it's getting like that all over, very hard to find a shop - or anyone - who knows what's up with old stuff, not just in USA.
Nice have you making videos !! Nice of you to do that crank for a great cause.
Making videos as time allows. Was able to sneak this crank in between jobs and had a moment to talk about it and show the process.
Nice work. It's cool that you can do this kind of work.
Due to so many problems getting crankshaft grinding from others I had to finally get a machine of my own and do another job in house.
Hope to have another GPW for you soon!
Great job as always Brian, the little details really help to get a long life out of the engine, hope you end the year well, and may you have a merry Christmas!
Always good to hear from you. Lots to finish up this time of year but hopefully will get a break soon. Merry Christmas to you and yours as well.

Brian you said the seals are now fixed? from what manufacture do you recommend.
Pete DeBella has the proper seals now.
Will you build me an engine? Mine has pitting and cracks in the top of the block
