- Do you know why Siachen glacier is strategically so important for India? Siachen region separates Pakistan border from the China border and hence it holds a high geopolitical value for India.

As per Shimla agreement, the international border between India and Pakistan was declared till Point NJ9842. Between point NJ9842 and Karakoram Pass is the Siachen Glacier which holds a high geopolitical value. The ceasefire borderline between NJ9842 and Karakoram pass not only led to Siachen war but also started the Kargil war.

Indirectly siachin is very important economic resource. Siachin is if not largest but one of largest fresh water glaciers in the world.
