You really helped me chose with this great video. I make travel videos in Thailand and have now decided to get the lark 150.
Excellent, glad it helped
Carl
I can't help but think that that first device from Sennheiser looks just like an asthma inhaler.
Just bought this from you! This will be so useful on my small A6400 which doesn't have a headphone port! Really useful feature for a lot of budget mirrorless/DSLR
Good call, just remember you're monitoring the audio in the receiver, not what the camera records, you still need to eyeball the audio levels on the a6400. But yes, good to be able to hear the audio coming through to monitor it!
@@pigmintfilm256 Absolutely. If your levels are set too low or high on the camera that will still cause problems. But at least you will be able to monitor for any issues like background noise
Carl
Been enjoying my Blink 500 since 2019 and looking at the Blink 500 Pro, just wish they'd backup locally record.
They look like the RODE GO on steroids! Looks like an amazing product. The charging case alone seems worth the cost.
They're pretty sweet, the case is probably our favourite thing about the Lark 150.
Dan
whilst it looks good, I'm not sure I agree that this concept is that unique. The Comica Boom X-D exists and has been out for about a year, and now there's a Rode Wireless Go 2 as well.
Although credit where it's due, I like the charging case and the controls on the receiver unit a little bit more here.
@@ProAVTV How about the external noise control when recording in busy outdoors? It will help in investing a huge money on it.
@@MultiMattRogers If you compare the Rode Wireless Go to the Comica Boom XD the Comica has a lot of latency when you're monitoring. The rode system does not. That may or not be a factor to you.
@@JWS1968 I've used both on commercial shoots and I've never had a situation where any audio was out of sync. So I can't speak to that from personal experience.
I'm told that the Rode system has slightly better range, so the latency you're talking about may only come into play at greater distances, but I'm never working in a situation where I'm pushing the limits in that respect, so it's kind of a non issue for me.
Although to be clear I wasn't advocating for any specific system, I was just reacting to the claimed uniqueness of the lark 150; which given the sheer number of similar systems that compete with it seemed somewhat misleading. Even DJI and Joby have joined in the pile on now. Although It's a little unfair to bring those two up given the age of the video.
I just became aware of this yesterday and was impressed, and today on B&H they had them at $60 off so I went for it. I will use for my wedding during the ceremony and during speeches so maybe one to one and half hours during the whole time so not too worried if the battery life actually last a full four hours plus. I'm guessing even longer if you tune the units off when not in use.
That noisefloor when using the Lark 150 with the MKE mic though 🥴
Would be nice if Hollyland went the extra mile and included an audio recorder in the box or attached to the receiver so you have a backup.
How is the connection with the subject turns away from the camera? Many of the digital systems seem to lose connection when there is no clear line of sight. How are these units?
Thanks for the great content!
Been researching these over last 24hrs comparing it was the Saramonic Blink 500 Pro, then this pops up on my subscription page! Clear and thorough as always!
One question - is the wind muff secure? Outdoor strong winds or... accidental brushing against it, would it pop off?
We're glad you found it useful! The wind muff is perfectly secure, it attaches though the 3.5mm jack and is much, much better than the one on the Rode.
Dan
@@ProAVTV Thankyou Dan. I remember seeing a similar but much smaller option a while back called Picomic - I'm sure sound quality takes a hit, but the size is a major draw. Those of us wanting quick solutions without lag mics would greatly appreciate the smaller size. You guys ever look at that product? Would love to see a video on a comparison with Blink 500 Pro too.
Very informative - just a pity latency was not touched on. Brilliant outfit to carry as a spare for expensive gear - so small
I have no complaints on latency. There is some, but it’s just the normal you see from digital systems, it’s the same on wireless go, avx etc.
Carl
Do you know if it would be possible to add an XLR adaptor to record stereo into a single input on an FS7?...I've a feeling FS7 is only mono channels but can't find a definitive answer. Would be good to have a dual receiver into one xlr input!
I thought the Rode Wireless Go's sounded slightly better with a noticably lower noise floor. With one of the plug in lavalier Mics you were using with the Lark 150, I could hear a slight hisss. The Go's seem to last close to 7 hours as well. on a charge. You can also pluggin a USB external pack to both the transmitter and receiver of the Wireless GO's while they're in operation if you need 8 hours or more continuously.
I'm a novice, so apologies for the forthcoming naïveté, but what about the bit rate transmission for any of these systems? My camera doesn't have 32-bit float capability but my Zoom F6 does, so transmitting the AVX to the field recorder seems ideal...but can the AVX transmit without clipping?
It also seems ideal to double-up mics on my speaker/talent with both systems; the Lark for my camera's scratch track and the AVX into my Zoom as the main track -or maybe vice versa?
Comica BoomX-2d would be a worthy alternative that allows charging through usb-c.
Comics boom XD -2 is also great. It's been around for a while
Sometimes i find in these 2 transmitter systems is that when you have them both on one tends to overpower the other
That's really interesting, I've never worked with this kind of system where they're audio mixed down to a mono track. Although the revievers on this kind of system do tend to have an inbuilt headphone jack and separate gain controls for each channel, so even if one of them is a little hot I imagine it would be trivial to fix the levels..
It is a shame that you have to choose between having separate audio or a safety track though.I think my ideal would be to add an inbuilt recorder in the reciever so that you have secondary audio (maybe with 32bit float if we're dreaming) so that you've got separated audio and safety tracks in one. I suppose you could add a zoom f2 in line but that feels janky.
They came out with a update but not sure how it can work as its looks complicated....also how do you get the final audio to your computer?
how do these compare with the Saramonic Blink500 Pro?
I had comica 2 channel kit years ago.. nothing new :)
Ikr. The charging case is innovative though (reminds me of Airpods) but that means you can't charge each device without it.
Can this be used with I phone 11 Pro also? We do vlogs vith I Phone and arent usig other cameras. Is it possible to conect this to I phone?
That senn lav had a lot of hiss on the holly system
Unfortunately it does as its a much less sensitive mic, the Rode sounds very similar with the MKE Essential too.
Dan
Hollylands battery life is wah does it for me. Would've rathered USB type C charging also
The Hollyland Lark 150 is not the only option for an affordable 2-person wireless lavalier system... The Comica BoomX-D has similar 2-channel recording capabilities, and has been available for quite a while. This said, the adjustment of the levels looks easier on the Lark 150.
what camera do you shoot on in your studio
I would love it if Rode finally got it together and released a dual system version of the wireless go (and fix the terrible line of sight signal issues). Better yet, I wish Sennheiser would release their own version of this product idea but with ME2 quality built-in mics and that great Sennheiser reliability. Don't care about price, just want the quality and reliability of those higher-end systems but with the convenience of that small size and built-in TX mics when wiring talent isn't always an option (like right now during Covid).
Absolutely. I’d love to see Sennheiser add extra units to their XSWD and AVX systems. A small clip on TX with a built in mic would be a fantastic addition to both systems.
Carl
Did the Rode wireless go 2 release in Europe before the US or something. Because the comments on this thread are so confusing. I literally owned that system before this video was published yet so many people commented as though it didn't exist. It's kinda strange. I'm starting to question my memory here.
The Rode Wireless Go 2 was announced globally including in Europe on Feb 23 2021. So yeah, these comments were only relevant for a few weeks between when this video was published on Jan 13 and when the Rode 2 came out. Although to date Sennheiser still hasn't updated their entry-level wireless for dual TX which is a damn shame really.
@@roland.boyden fair enough, I must have come to this video a couple of weeks later after it was first published and for confused.
So it was only the comica XD boom that was already around at this point, and I can't blame people for not having that on their radar given the more budget minded brand.
This seams like a good option but came out to late for me as I bought 2 pairs of The Rode Go for my work
i guess my question is, what if you need to have 4 people talking how would you rig that up?
Some sort of external recorder would be your best bet you just aren't going to get 4 channels of audio on a consumer level camera.
Ideally i'd want to use the in camera audio as a reference track and record all of the talent individually. If you have someone running sound then radio mics systems are worthwhile as they will be continually monitoring and adjusting the levels, but if it's a bit more run and gun, I'd go with a decent lav mic going into a cheap pocket recorder for each of your 4 people. Then syncing it in post shouldn't be too hard.
That 4.5hr battery life feels like a deal breaker to an otherwise perfect system. That's just half a shoot day!
Yep if you're likely to be using these for longer that 4.5 hours continuously with both TX's, then its probably not the best option.
Dan
If you use one at a time in mono, then you have 9 hours…that should be plenty
I have Saramonic 2channel kit. Was on sale for 350$. It's works really nice for 4 years now. But it's heavy, and i want somthing simpler.
I sold my Rode Wireless Go thinking everything I'd ever need would be done with my Tentacle Sync kit. Then I forgot I'm offering Weddings through Zoom, and I think this would be perfect for those calls.
I got the Sokani UHF system, and actually pretty good for the price, but then I bought the Rode Go II system. Sounds GREAT,........but 100% plagued by RF interference, really loud and just destroys any audio you get. I called Rode and the guy was real nice, and basically told me the Rode was overpowering my Panasonic Lumix G7. Sent it back, completely hopeless, the only answer being to buy a much higher end camera and all those lenses, not thank you.
Can you tell, which type of charging plug it has? Type C or micro USB?
The case has a Type C port.
Dan
Could you plug a Sanken lav in for even better audio?
Yes, you can plug in any Lav mic that uses a 3.5mm connector.
Carl
is it possible to use 3 sets 6ch and run the into a mixer without interference. thx
now that type of solo out, and i bought one from this store, maybe u could check. if u need, here is the link.

Anyone having an issues with the case losing charge? My case will lose charge withing 3-4 days when stored away. I've updated to latest firmware which was supposed to fix the issue with no luck.
What audio levels you set on your Sony a7 camera or R5 To use this mic ? Looks very interesting.
First ever audio? What about their telecom system? 😉
Are you saying you record audio with their telecom systems? 😉
Dan
I prefer the. Quality of the
ŔODE .
Is the receiver falling out of the hot shoe?
In some of the shots, we did pull the receiver out a little for visual reasons. But the receiver does fit nice and securely in the hot shoe.
Dan
@@ProAVTV Thanks. Perhaps in another review there was a defective copy.
*laughs in rode wireless go 2*
Dont forget PicoMics. two mics into one base unit. Not BRILLIANT sound quality, but perfectly useable.
From what I can tell the Picomic's don't have a 3.5mm input for a Lav mic? They would probably rule them out for most of our customers i'd imagine.
Carl
@@ProAVTV No they don't Carl you're right, but since the mic capsule is in he tiny clip part, the visible footprint is similar to a lav mic anyway. I like them though and have since sold my Sennheiser G2 and Røde Film makers kits to simply avoid having a 'pack' of any kind, which makes working fast with clients an absolute breeze.
How much
It's currently £311.99: www.proav.co.uk/hollyland-lark-150-microphone-system

Way to not mention the Saramonic Blink 500 pro especially in the context of "biggest competitor."
True, Saramonic do have their Blink system. But the Rode Wireless Go is far more popular.
Carl
@@ProAVTV Not just the blink system.. the pro one comes in a charging case, something the Rode doesn't have, it has a dual channel receiver, which the Rode doesn't have, it comes with lav mics, the Rode doesn't. If anything, it can be compared with the Comica Boom XD, the Sukani Tiny, and Picomic. It fits there more than it does with the Rode Go.
Incredible feature set, but that sound is really poor. Wouldn't consider it suitable for anything but the lowest end corporate gigs.
Even with the seinheiser and rode mics you can really hear the mudiness and low bitrate.
Just for myself:

someone need to invent lavelier mic without wires. maybe the receiver is in the mic itself. but it must be as small as airpods.
We are heading that way! These are much smaller than ever used to be possible. So perhaps one day soon we will see that happen
Carl
The pico did just that
@@SalsaBailaProductions ooo nice!!! Just looked it up. Almost there!just need someone to make even smaller version lol
