This is actually pretty depressing. I feel for her but this can serve as a message to others about life choices and decisions. I've been there financially, so I'm NOT putting her down or judging her. I didn't get it together until I was in my very early forties, but that was due to a VERY bad divorce that took me years to recover from both financially and psychologically. I was BROKE as age thirty nine and a half, but I finally got traction and got things together. Hopefully, this woman will also.

Yeah she may have lost the father of her children to tragedy but I really doubt it, if she MARRIED into a decent family and daddy got hit by a bus or died of cancer there would be inlaws involved in this story. Also if a single mom doesn't make any money she has to find a living situation where the math works whether that involves grandma or a 2nd husband or a non-romantic partner/roommate situation, aunt moving in I don't know but she's just blindly smashing into walls because she refuses to pick up a calculator.

His family may not live nearby, or the may not be able to help. If she’s 46 my guess is the grandparents may be very elderly or even dead.
But the father is alive & well then he’s the one we should be judging for not taking care of his own kids.
I do not blame her for struggling if the father ran out on his responsibilities and is likely getting another woman pregnant before abandoning her too.
And to have to deal with all of this alone after losing a child? My heart goes out to her.

No one is going to tell her the truth because it’s now against the law in this country to be honest with people. Her best bet would be to get under a man’s leadership. She was allowed to steer the ship and had completely wrecked herself and possibly her kids. She’s thinking retirement but has no chance at retirement. No one is paying 50 year old women to cut hair. She better hope and pray her kids father will take her back. Switch careers and keep cutting hair as a side gig that is all out towards her retirement.

Everyone wants a job where they can be available to their kids but most employers don't care about your kids. Even teachers have that problem. Has she investigated working for Walmart? I just paid off my 22 Prius for $13,000. I'm not understanding why she still owed $26,000 on her car, before the refinancing. Are Tiguans that expensive?

This lady is clearly overwhelmed as anyone would be in her situation. Jade your tone of voice was caring and both you and Ken gave her a solid path to follow. Good to see you Jade, good work with Ken.
Smh - she needs therapy. She needs a different trade or get a job. Memphis market does suck without degrees. Call Robert Half to get a cal center job.

Jade has no idea how the salon industry works. When you are let go, you do not get to take your clients with you. You have to start over. As well, your income is based on the number of haircuts. Its not a salary.
Gig jobs are only good of you live in a big city and only temporarily.
This was clearly a call for Ken. Caller has employment problem and stated early on she was let go from her stable job. This should have been explored, as well as, discuss how caller might be able to work remotely in a different occupation.
The bad news is a history of bad choices. She chose poorly in men and lifestyle, enough said. She chose a very low-paying career. At least styling for female clients would pay far better, even if she doesn't quite LOVE it (too bad so sad). And sorry, but a grown person should know that habitually leaving work to tend to children is not going to end well. She financed a late model, expensive car that is known to be unreliable, and at her high credit risk, certainly at an obscene interest rate. And this is what we know just from what she chose to reveal here. She is hardly putting her daughter thru college as she claims. From my experience actually paying for all my kids' college, almost certainly those "scholarships" were qualified only by race and financial need. The good news is that she is NOT near retirement age. If she turns this around now, she has 20+ years to dig out of this and to actually build wealth. I was the same age when I wised-up. I had a much bigger shovel, but that was thanks to better career planning.
As a barber, she’s an embarrassment. If you can’t hack it, leave the industry. You either have it or you don’t.

I thought about doing Uber as side gig but my mechanic said no it is too much wear and tear on my vehicle.
Maybe an Ed Tech job at her child's school it would pay more than $15/ hour, and would allow her hours with her child and can do side gigs during holiday breaks, weekends.
