Quick Disclaimer on the name "Weird Route" I'm getting a lot of comments on the fact I call this "The Weird Route." I feel it's important to keep a few things in mind here... (spoilers for the alternate routes of both Undertale and Deltarune below) First, routes don't really have "official" names. "The Snowgrave" Route IS the most popular name for this route, but it's not "the correct" name anymore than "soda" is the only correct term for fizzy beverages. That said, while there isn't an "official name," the game does have to label the code related to this route somehow, and pretty much all the code in game refers to this as either "weird route" or "b-side route." So if there were a "correct" name, it'd be one of those. The name "Snowgrave" is also a bit of a spoiler for both the nature of the route and the route's most climactic moment. Since this video includes detailed instructions on how to initiate the route before any spoilers are dropped, it would be counterproductive to name drop the final spell before players have a chance to discover it themselves. This video was also made literally a few days after the run was discovered, and my channel was pretty small at the time, so the idea that I'd need to disambiguate hadn't really occurred to me. That one is my bad. "But wait!" I hear you say, "What about the Genocide route! That's not the name in-code! And isn't it a spoiler?" Both very fair points. The name in code is usually "murder" route. The problem is, in the early days of Undertale, it was hard to communicate using that name, because players would "murder" the monsters directly in their path, and be confused when it didn't provide them with the unique route. The name implied false information, and led to confusion. "Genocide" while controversial, is sharp and direct. It communicates to the player that you don't mean "the route where you don't show mercy" or "the route where you fight." You are referring to a route in which you go out of your way to hunt every last monster to extermination. While "Weird route" is less popular, and hardly a set of instructions, it doesn't cause the same problems in communication, as no one is going to mistakenly believe they "did the weird route," at most they'll ask for clarification. All that said, I'm not trying to shame anyone for using the name "Snowgrave" route. Like I personally love that name, and use it in casual conversation pretty much every time. But I do try to be mindful about spoilers in my videos, since I personally love discovering things myself and hate it when others don't permit me that same courtesy. ... i think i know what Heaven and the Angel are! whenever spamton talks about Heaven, it seems like he's talking about either your world, or just _you_ directly. heaven is what he's trying to reach - heaven is what he's trying to get enough "freedom" to see. you're Heaven, you're the one watching. and the title of Angel is clearly related to Heaven, right? and it's pretty obvious by now that noelle is the Angel. i think what the title actually means is that.. if you're a god, then the Angel is your prophet. noelle is the only character in the game who can directly hear _your_ voice, and it seems like she's forced to follow your command. she's who you utilize to make choices (something not otherwise possible). kris may be your vessel, but noelle is your Angel. so this all makes ralsei's legend a LOT more ominous, if they're going to have to destroy Heaven. i'm guessing the final boss in the pacifist route is going to be *you.* edit: slight change now that i've thought about this a bit more, i'd say Heaven represents not just you, but players or forces controlling the game in general. so in "reaching Heaven," spamton doesn't really want to reach you or your world in particular - he wants to escape the bounds of the script by _becoming_ a player himself, or something on the level of one. but he needs a player's soul to do so, which would be yours.
Actually, Susie also hears your voice back in the card´s castle when you point her a direction. Considering the distance between herself and Kris cell and also the fact that Kris neither reads minds nor is able to see Susie, we can safely assume that the voice she confuses with Kris is ours. This means that US, the Player, are able not only to manipulate Noelle into our will, but also other characters which I see quite logical as it´s not quite possible that we have Noelle in our party in all chapters. On other note, Noelle was more easily manipulable since she´s an old friend of Kris, but I wonder how will it be with others like Susie that isn´t afraid to call out whenever we make Kris do something stupid or sometimes even take her own path that accomodates her better. Werid route was only possible since none of our other friends were watching, but I wonder what will happen when they do...
@@4n1m4s that's true, i forgot about that. i guess the difference here would be that noelle can clearly hear your voice all the time, meanwhile susie just barely heard it this once. noelle is also connected to the player in the sense that she doesn't seem to have a choice to disobey you - when she doesn't want to listen to your command, it _always_ ends up happening anyway, even if she has to do it in a trance-like state. for example when she takes the freezering, she doesn't seem aware of it at all, and can't even remember doing it. or at the end of the weird route, she somehow hears your call and kills spamton even though she was asleep before. so even though the player's presence can sometimes slip through for the other characters (e.g. susie hearing your voice), i think noelle still has a connection to the player that the others don't.
i do actually have a theory as to how this ties into there being one ending what route you take decides what side of the fight you end up controlling at the end of the game, that means it still fulfills the idea that there is one ending to the game it just depends on what side you're on

I think the trash can is literally just trashy, because I got the "weird route dialogue" on a normal run. It's probably just whether or not you talk to him more than required
Hidden captions at 12:45: "One of the more fascinating issues with this run is the placement of the petrified Roulxs Kaard. Since he's blocking the door to this shop, we can't get the Big Shot Bow, which is needed to make a TensionBow. As extremely stretchy as this theory might be, hear me out. After going through the Snowgrave Route, we realize that Noelle begins to be called “Angel” in some dialogue. In Ralsei’s Prophecy, we hear about the Three Heroes who have to banish the Angel’s Heaven. If Noelle’s Confidence begins to slowly rise more and more, what if she eventually would become the antagonist and would actually be fully willing to eliminate enemies for you? What I’m saying is, what if Toby _wants_ us to play the “Genocide” Route to fulfill the prophecy and get the _good_ ending?
I dunno, the fact the heroes' task is to "banish the Angel’s Heaven" implies that the Angel is the bad guy. Actively helping to make Noelle become that bad guy seems like a bad idea on the same scale as actively summoning these titans he talked about.
@sofistar1515 I highly doubt that The Steam about for deltarune has bullet points that say “And... ... ... only 1 ending...?” So it probably isn’t “one ending”
@@yowch1081 Same. I believe this "one ending" thing is just a way to show that CH 1 only had ONE ENDING. Regardless if you did Pacifist or just made all enemies run away, it ended the same way. But in CH 2, the "Only 1 ending...?" refers to this route affecting the future chapters, with Berdly being fallen down and Noelle being psychologically shattered. (Or things are normal as they are in Pacifist, or you do Neutral and Berdly's arm gets paralyzed)
Actually this is not exclusive to Snowgrave. In the game's code, this can happen in normal attacks and other damaging spells too, if you remove the "run away when HP is 0" code from the game.
I honestly believe the Twisted Sword is going to be the Keypiece in a "It's no longer you"-scenario where we throw away Kris as an individual for power, because the weapon retains the trance-ability of the thorn ring and that one piece of dialogue at 9:03 tells us that the ring is important enough to specifically reference. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is...what would it even logically do? It would probably half the cost of all spells, but...Kris doesn't really have a lot of spells to half the price of, the only ones are locked to certain encounters. Maybe that is where the unused Rude Sword comes in, but having a copy of Rude Buster be the final "aha!" of a potential route would be kinda lame.

I’ve seen evidence of the computer room dialogue changes… The only thing is, I honestly can’t remember if it was a snowgrave-triggered change, but there was definitely something that altered the text when you look at the bottom right computer

Excellent quality video, best I've seen yet. To me all the hints indicate it's clear that unlike Undertale's genocide route, Fox wanted people to be able to discover this route even if they didn't search online. I do think we are going to continue to see this theme of Genocide Kris to be doing all their evil stuff behind the other protagonists' backs. Is it to avoid being detected by sans? Or perhaps to surprise Ralsei (given they believe in the legend, that would match up well with the idea that the Angel's Heaven is something that Kris is actually working to bring about).
Perhaps but I get the feeling Kris is actually not in favor of Snowgrave route, given they are visibly shaken from performing it. Also there's the dialogue in the boss fight where "Kris" calls for Ralsie and Susie but "you" (the player) call for Noelle. Snowgrave might actually represent us possessing Kris, making Kris more like Frisk than Chara. Toby actually mentioned in the Deltarune stream that he deliberately made the game look like Undertale specifically to mess with expectations, in the same way he made Flowey appear like a "typical" tutorial npc in an RPG so he could flip that on it's head. So Kris resembling Chara (green/yellow clothes) might be further efforts towards that. (making us assume Kris is Chara when really he's more Frisk-like, if a bit of a prankster). But that's just my theory. : P I like your idea of this the characters themselves leaning into the legend like that. I'm excited to see how it all pans later. And now my cat is on my monitor so I must stop blind typing.

The computer dialogue change is triggered by beating spamton neo (on either a normal run or a snowgrave run) - before, it says "someone is checking their emails", and after it says "it's crashed with a blue screen"
9 classmates (total, unless you kill berdly). 7 classmates (Susie and kris are on our team). 5 classmates (noelle and berdly, or noelle -berdly are on our team) . 5 classmates left. 5 chapters left. Someone else noticed this, i am not the person who originally noticed this. But i don't actually know who thought of this first, so just keep that in mind. i just wanted to share and maybe get some more theory talk going. I just wanted y'all to know :)
I just wanna say that at 7:56 when Noelle finishes her dialogue and you can move again, Kris looks at the camera and the fence that prevents you from falling makes them look like they have Chara's smile. When I was doing this run I caught this right before I moved since I was trying to figure out how Kris works when they face the camera after dialogue bits. To me it's like they are awaiting our input by directly looking at us. I really believe Toby did this on purpose for actively turning creatures into popsicles. Also I'm not sure if this is the same for the pacifist run I haven't checked in a while.
At the end of the chapter 2 cutscene, kris opens the door after Toriel calls the police and falls asleep. Then kris opens a fountain.. Since she called the police, undyne will probobly come into the new dark world. Since Toriel is your mom, she is very overprotective, she will do anything in her power to make sure you don't get hurt. You can probobly manipulate her to kill enemies and eventually... undyne. Toriel from undertale had a fire attack, so she will probobly burn enemies and undyne, who is prone to hot temperatures. You can make undyne into fish and chips. Also I stole this theory from someone else but I forgot their name lol.
Jevil can do anything but he *won't* psychologically manipulate a reindeer into mass murder. That's just mean. Something I never considered: What if Kris isn't even hearing the voice & doesn't know what it's saying to her? I always figured the voice works like telepathy. If so, Kris might not hear it when it's talking to someone else, which means Kris doesn't know what's being said & therefore doesn't know why Noelle is suddenly committing mass murder or who she's gonna kill next but they lack the autonomy to talk her out of it. Imagine Kris seeing Berdly & hoping he'll stop her but then she reacts like Kris told her to murder Berdly even though Kris didn't say anything. Then Kris gets knocked out on purpose & wakes up to see Berdly dead anyway. I wonder what kind of narrative consequences sparing Berdly just to kill more enemies with Snowgrave could have. After all, it could be considered a morally worse choice since the body count is higher & you let Noelle think everything was okay for a moment just to then go right back to making her commit murder when Berdly was no longer around to see it. Plus, who's to say you can't just kill Berdly later? Kris knows where he goes to school & probably where he lives. Noelle obviously knows, at least. Kris could even send Noelle to Berdly's house to kill him without Kris needing to be there & it would just look like a natural disaster if done right. I wonder if the twisted sword will be a way for Kris to commit murder.

I wanna say a thing about the video of beating Undertale without dodging in pacifist run you made: You can actually level up to LV10 in the core before the true lab but to do that you have to make sure that you dated every main character (alphys too). Then go the CORE, kill monsters and level up to 10 and then go to the True Lab and keep going with your pacifist run without attacking anyone and BOOM, Asriel's fight becomes more easier!

The snow/freezering trivia brings a theory to my mind. Noelle being the [ANGEL] I'm starting to think that no matter what path you take be it weird or even the normal path, she is either being given her heaven because of her calm and dismissive manner by having (Kris/yourself the player) push the others to think about Noelle and her wants and needs giver her the heaven she always wanted in the light world. /forced to make her own heaven in the weird this making her realize she has the power in the dark world make anything she wants happen. So either way she wins her heaven. I'm the light world or the dark world. Either way the end is coming and the only solution to the whole problem is to completely crushing Noelle's sprit so she no longer wants anything or to kill her so her wants can never manifest.... That's why in my opinion for either story birdly is drastically changed. He is no longer holding back Noelle's wants and need with his own on top. Either you change him and he leaves Noelle alone or she kills/cryogenicly freezes him and he leaves her alone. When someone else speaks for you, your true Intentions are never heard. Now though she is free and has her own voice to speak or to demand....

Another reason that Noelle is related to religious themes and the angel and stuff is that, from her name, to her design, to her species, to her family, she is related to Christmas, and thus Christ, and thus Jesus, and thus religion. This is also why she says "Gosh" instead of using the lord's name in veign like other characters do (Though I've also heard that this is in relation to using God's name to benefit wrongfully or something? Still, the idea is there.) BTW why is the part about completing the crafting 100% cut, reduced to quick subtitles?

Cause my game no matter what Keeps doing only the 1st options that I did in my 1st save file of chapter 1 and Is moving It over all my chapter 2 slots. For example if I picked the chalk option with Noelle in chapter 1 It still did that in all my files even If I didnt want It to do that

The waste bin dialogue might be a reference to the waste bin NPC… I don't think you meet them if you complete the weird route (I don't know for sure. I like game lore and such, but UT and DR are not currently games we feel like playing); but if you *only* recruit Queen, the waste bin NPC shows up to say they're there - at least from what I've seen in other lore videos.
After the Snowgrave Spamtin Fight when you act to call for help, the first 4 times are "Kris called for help..." and the last one is "You wispered Noelles name". This is the first time that KRIS actually did something instead of the PLAYER doing it for him!!!

I just noticed that at 3:33, Noelle at least implies she's seen the Festival's Ferris Wheel, & thus, presumably also the Festival itself. Vexing, how much we know that other characters seem to. 4:53 Oh yeah. I do wonder if the Cyberworld is meant to be outdated compared to the "real" world in Deltarune. d.ogg, or the music that plays during the battle with Berdly in this route is so unnerving. i dont know if its just because of the context, but something about just hearing a short part of Berdly’s theme with like half the instruments and melody removed in this scene is extremely freaky

Isn’t there the angel of death or something in Deltarune? Or is it Undertale? I don’t really know, I think it is the turtle in waterfall if you ask him about the symbol. He will say something about an angel of death. I think that is what that is about. Somewhere, in either game, I remember an angel of death.

On other note, Noelle was more easily manipulable since she´s an old friend of Kris, but I wonder how will it be with others like Susie that isn´t afraid to call out whenever we make Kris do something stupid or sometimes even take her own path that accomodates her better. Werid route was only possible since none of our other friends were watching, but I wonder what will happen when they do...
@@4n1m4s that's true, i forgot about that. i guess the difference here would be that noelle can clearly hear your voice all the time, meanwhile susie just barely heard it this once.
noelle is also connected to the player in the sense that she doesn't seem to have a choice to disobey you - when she doesn't want to listen to your command, it _always_ ends up happening anyway, even if she has to do it in a trance-like state. for example when she takes the freezering, she doesn't seem aware of it at all, and can't even remember doing it. or at the end of the weird route, she somehow hears your call and kills spamton even though she was asleep before.
so even though the player's presence can sometimes slip through for the other characters (e.g. susie hearing your voice), i think noelle still has a connection to the player that the others don't.
I always had a feeling we’d be the final boss. I didn’t draw that connection between god and the Angel though…very nice catch!!
i do actually have a theory as to how this ties into there being one ending what route you take decides what side of the fight you end up controlling at the end of the game, that means it still fulfills the idea that there is one ending to the game it just depends on what side you're on

After going through the Snowgrave Route, we realize that Noelle begins to be called “Angel” in some dialogue.
In Ralsei’s Prophecy, we hear about the Three Heroes who have to banish the Angel’s Heaven.
If Noelle’s Confidence begins to slowly rise more and more, what if she eventually would become the antagonist and would actually be fully willing to eliminate enemies for you?
What I’m saying is, what if Toby _wants_ us to play the “Genocide” Route to fulfill the prophecy and get the _good_ ending?
I dunno, the fact the heroes' task is to "banish the Angel’s Heaven" implies that the Angel is the bad guy. Actively helping to make Noelle become that bad guy seems like a bad idea on the same scale as actively summoning these titans he talked about.

@@yowch1081 Same. I believe this "one ending" thing is just a way to show that CH 1 only had ONE ENDING. Regardless if you did Pacifist or just made all enemies run away, it ended the same way. But in CH 2, the "Only 1 ending...?" refers to this route affecting the future chapters, with Berdly being fallen down and Noelle being psychologically shattered. (Or things are normal as they are in Pacifist, or you do Neutral and Berdly's arm gets paralyzed)

Actually this is not exclusive to Snowgrave. In the game's code, this can happen in normal attacks and other damaging spells too, if you remove the "run away when HP is 0" code from the game.

I honestly believe the Twisted Sword is going to be the Keypiece in a "It's no longer you"-scenario where we throw away Kris as an individual for power, because the weapon retains the trance-ability of the thorn ring and that one piece of dialogue at 9:03 tells us that the ring is important enough to specifically reference.
The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is...what would it even logically do? It would probably half the cost of all spells, but...Kris doesn't really have a lot of spells to half the price of, the only ones are locked to certain encounters. Maybe that is where the unused Rude Sword comes in, but having a copy of Rude Buster be the final "aha!" of a potential route would be kinda lame.

Excellent quality video, best I've seen yet. To me all the hints indicate it's clear that unlike Undertale's genocide route, Fox wanted people to be able to discover this route even if they didn't search online.
I do think we are going to continue to see this theme of Genocide Kris to be doing all their evil stuff behind the other protagonists' backs. Is it to avoid being detected by sans? Or perhaps to surprise Ralsei (given they believe in the legend, that would match up well with the idea that the Angel's Heaven is something that Kris is actually working to bring about).
Perhaps but I get the feeling Kris is actually not in favor of Snowgrave route, given they are visibly shaken from performing it. Also there's the dialogue in the boss fight where "Kris" calls for Ralsie and Susie but "you" (the player) call for Noelle. Snowgrave might actually represent us possessing Kris, making Kris more like Frisk than Chara.
Toby actually mentioned in the Deltarune stream that he deliberately made the game look like Undertale specifically to mess with expectations, in the same way he made Flowey appear like a "typical" tutorial npc in an RPG so he could flip that on it's head. So Kris resembling Chara (green/yellow clothes) might be further efforts towards that. (making us assume Kris is Chara when really he's more Frisk-like, if a bit of a prankster).
But that's just my theory. : P I like your idea of this the characters themselves leaning into the legend like that. I'm excited to see how it all pans later. And now my cat is on my monitor so I must stop blind typing.

The computer dialogue change is triggered by beating spamton neo (on either a normal run or a snowgrave run) - before, it says "someone is checking their emails", and after it says "it's crashed with a blue screen"

I just wanna say that at 7:56 when Noelle finishes her dialogue and you can move again, Kris looks at the camera and the fence that prevents you from falling makes them look like they have Chara's smile. When I was doing this run I caught this right before I moved since I was trying to figure out how Kris works when they face the camera after dialogue bits. To me it's like they are awaiting our input by directly looking at us. I really believe Toby did this on purpose for actively turning creatures into popsicles. Also I'm not sure if this is the same for the pacifist run I haven't checked in a while.

At the end of the chapter 2 cutscene, kris opens the door after Toriel calls the police and falls asleep. Then kris opens a fountain.. Since she called the police, undyne will probobly come into the new dark world. Since Toriel is your mom, she is very overprotective, she will do anything in her power to make sure you don't get hurt. You can probobly manipulate her to kill enemies and eventually... undyne. Toriel from undertale had a fire attack, so she will probobly burn enemies and undyne, who is prone to hot temperatures. You can make undyne into fish and chips.

Something I never considered: What if Kris isn't even hearing the voice & doesn't know what it's saying to her? I always figured the voice works like telepathy. If so, Kris might not hear it when it's talking to someone else, which means Kris doesn't know what's being said & therefore doesn't know why Noelle is suddenly committing mass murder or who she's gonna kill next but they lack the autonomy to talk her out of it.
Imagine Kris seeing Berdly & hoping he'll stop her but then she reacts like Kris told her to murder Berdly even though Kris didn't say anything. Then Kris gets knocked out on purpose & wakes up to see Berdly dead anyway.
I wonder what kind of narrative consequences sparing Berdly just to kill more enemies with Snowgrave could have. After all, it could be considered a morally worse choice since the body count is higher & you let Noelle think everything was okay for a moment just to then go right back to making her commit murder when Berdly was no longer around to see it.
Plus, who's to say you can't just kill Berdly later? Kris knows where he goes to school & probably where he lives. Noelle obviously knows, at least. Kris could even send Noelle to Berdly's house to kill him without Kris needing to be there & it would just look like a natural disaster if done right.

You can actually level up to LV10 in the core before the true lab but to do that you have to make sure that you dated every main character (alphys too).
Then go the CORE, kill monsters and level up to 10 and then go to the True Lab and keep going with your pacifist run without attacking anyone and BOOM, Asriel's fight becomes more easier!
I thought monsters stop spawning when you backtrack after you Spare the main boss of the area?

Even I realized this.
The snow/freezering trivia brings a theory to my mind. Noelle being the [ANGEL] I'm starting to think that no matter what path you take be it weird or even the normal path, she is either being given her heaven because of her calm and dismissive manner by having (Kris/yourself the player) push the others to think about Noelle and her wants and needs giver her the heaven she always wanted in the light world. /forced to make her own heaven in the weird this making her realize she has the power in the dark world make anything she wants happen. So either way she wins her heaven. I'm the light world or the dark world. Either way the end is coming and the only solution to the whole problem is to completely crushing Noelle's sprit so she no longer wants anything or to kill her so her wants can never manifest.... That's why in my opinion for either story birdly is drastically changed. He is no longer holding back Noelle's wants and need with his own on top. Either you change him and he leaves Noelle alone or she kills/cryogenicly freezes him and he leaves her alone. When someone else speaks for you, your true Intentions are never heard. Now though she is free and has her own voice to speak or to demand....

Another reason that Noelle is related to religious themes and the angel and stuff is that, from her name, to her design, to her species, to her family, she is related to Christmas, and thus Christ, and thus Jesus, and thus religion. This is also why she says "Gosh" instead of using the lord's name in veign like other characters do (Though I've also heard that this is in relation to using God's name to benefit wrongfully or something? Still, the idea is there.)

The waste bin dialogue might be a reference to the waste bin NPC… I don't think you meet them if you complete the weird route (I don't know for sure. I like game lore and such, but UT and DR are not currently games we feel like playing); but if you *only* recruit Queen, the waste bin NPC shows up to say they're there - at least from what I've seen in other lore videos.
