      It can still look good on those settings, even better than on consoles. I don't understand why people have to put everything on ultra on midrange hardware or it's a bust.
      You can also look at it from the perspective that if you revisit it in a year, or maybe two. It still looks great because you can upscale the settings. However, i'm not excusing games that run poor whilst looking sub-par or like shit, even.

      @@The_Noticer. it's mostly to prove to oneself that your hardware is holding up and doesn't need upgrading soon I believe as far as wanting to get ultra settings.. I've been playing this on 1440p with ultra/high settings and haven't noticed much slowdown with a 2600x and 1070 sc GPU with 16 GB ram. Pretty happy with how it runs especially compared to trying to play evil within 2 at the same time with tons of stuttering. Mad Max, which was ported to GNU/Linux by the lovely folks at Feral Interactive was the first, and interestingly enough, it does suffer from similar stuttering. I really hope the developers get to grips with Vulkan, and that their next release doesn't suffer from these issues, as they are somewhat of a reoccurring thing with their implementation so far.

    With the Jaguar cpu in consoles being such a low clocked, and castrated chip compared to any Ryzen core, I am actually impressed that 60fps was possible on the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. However, since both high end consoles are literally the same here regarding performance, one knows that developers invested time and optimization on the PS4 Pro and literally no extra time was invested on optimizing the Xbox Scorpio. Nevertheless, great video.

    What really bothers me is that the viewmodel/weapon FOV is extremely low and it doesn't scale/change with the general FOV. It's clear that it was designed for console users primarily who will possibly play on a lower FOV (80 or lower) and will sit far from their TV. But it just looks bad from a close distance on a monitor, especially with a higher FOV (because the viewmodel/weapon FOV stays on the same low level), while on a 21:9 monitor it's just horrendous and it gives me heavy motion sickness. This is the reason why I haven't played the game since I first tried it. Also, it's quite laughable and irritating that the UI elements stuck to a 16:9 screenspace. Even Salt & Sanctuary managed to support ultrawide monitors properly with an automatically scaling UI and it's a game that was made by two people, not by hundreds.

    All i have to say is thank god for console exclusives, because any other games played on pc reigns supreme over everything else. That's why i'm so happy their's pc, console and handheld players out there, me i'm and will always be console/handheld player, reason well i never had enough money to buy a powerful pc to play games on it but console/handheld is within my budget so i will stick with them. Now with people who are pc players don't hate on me, and i got a pc just one not for games but for work only so yeah i'm happy with consoles/handhelds loads of fun memories and moments with the games i've played.

    I'd love to see a DF video explaining their optimal way to 'lock' the FPS on PC. As a newbie it seems like there are so many options:- in-game VSync (sometimes adaptive, half, or other!), control panel/driver VSync, 'in game' FPS limiters, RivaTuner / similar limiters. Then there's GSync/FreeSync on top. I'd love to know how they set up for the captures in terms of the above settings to test how well a game holds 60FPS (or whatever the target FPS being measured is) :D

    It'd be good if you could include a Vega result in vid's like this so we can have a more high end idea of how things compare. Obviously we know AMD has no comparable card to a 2080ti but it is also unheard of outside of that 0.2% of PC owners that have one so it has no real relevance for 90% of your viewers.

    I think that Idtech 5 could really shine today, with 64 times more system memory than a ps3 and ssd's, it would be possible to make a game much larger and with fewer and quicker loading screens. Also, now we could take advantage of mega textures, at least doubling the pixel density on each axis.
    It could, potentially, be used for the best looking 1440p60 games on the X1X.

    You kinda misunderstood the dynamic resolution thing completly you should probably add the true explanation for it cause this is pretty unprofessional :P It works like a charm :) Also changing it to automatic and not using manual explains why you didn't get it at all it works just as intended on manual....
    (hint: on manual the fps target will be what the game tries to maintain while lowering the resolution to down to x% set in the slider above, e.g. you can just lower it to 10% and it will always reach the fps target as long as it's not cpu bound. If you are not keen of too blurry images you can try stuff like 90% 60fps etc. but I would recommend choosing an fps that's reasonably handable and then just set it to 10% so you will never get stutters or slowdowns. (you can find out when the game starts to scal but just putting the slider to 10%, increasing it gradually and look at what % your current scene changes resolution)

  • @oropher1234
    @oropher1234 5 лет назад

    i had stuttering issues with the first race which felt a little distracting.
    Also, if you throw like 5 grenades shoot barrels and your smart Rocket Launcher in quick succession you can quite easily dip below 60 fps as well, but that is to me because the effects look very advanced and i suspect them to scale linearly with the resolution.
    You (DIGITAL FOUNDRY) did not try this with the console version, pretty sure it will dip heavily.
    That too, because this game shows much heavier decreases in performance when turning up RES than most games!

      1080ti is comparable to a 2080 in general. so reduce everything by about 30% and you are not going to be far off. Honestly though unless you want hard capped 1440p 144hz ultra or striving for that 4k 60fps ultra i would stick the the 1080ti. i enjoy the extra overhead of the 2080ti but i game exclusively at 4k

    • @cap4529
      @cap4529 5 лет назад

      Peter Chestnut that’s what I want 4K 60 fps but right now I average 40 odd (depending on the game) is it worth me shelling out $1700 again when my 1080ti is only just over a year old. 4K 30 is fine for me right now as the crispness of 4K is too good compared to 1080p. As newer games become available I feel that 4K 30 may start to slip. When do you reckon the new generation would be? Sept next year?

    • @MrHozay11
      @MrHozay11 5 лет назад

      @@cap4529 you can pick up a 2080ti for £1000 ($1250 ish) in the uk. 1700 dollars seems like a lot that would buy the msi lightning z ln2 overclocking version here (which is totally pointless for an average gamer). I went with a Palit gaming oc as i don't hear the slight extra fan noise they produce above other AiB boards with my setup/case plus it was a bit cheaper, been very happy with it for the last 6 months.
      I would expect that Nvidia are going to sit on this generation for about another year or so. So really depends on how many games that are super taxing that you want to play come out in that time. 1080ti is a strong card still as it stands.

    The game runs great on ultra with my old ass i7 2600 @ 3.8Ghz, 16GB DDR3 @ 1333Mhz, GeForce GTX 970 4GB (core+165Mhz, memory+580Mhz) with motion blur, depth of field, and chromatic aberration all turned off with Vsync set to 'soft' (best feature evar) I get usually a solid 50-60FPS with some minor tearing due to how the vsync setting works.
    I'm having a blast with this game and I'm blown away how good it looks considering my rig isn't mainstream at all. Although the i7 2600 continues to kick ass since 2011. xD
