    I'm no coach, but I've learned it's always best to start slow to get mechanics down properly. Once the mechanics are down you can increase speed. Study and practice heavy defense. Without good defense and good skating and yes stick handling 3 key ingredients to winning games. 😊

    Thanks for great info! I like how he explains that all levels are still working on their game!! And that those top 2 lines are so skilled and competing that have to work hard just to be there! I have noticed that success with many NHL teams has come from the 3rd and 4th line being those young hungry players. Is that just what I think or do you all see that as well?

    • @CoachZac
      @CoachZac  8 лет назад

      +Steve Ecklund Definitely. The 3rd and 4th line players in the NHL are amazing. You have to realize, those players were leading scorers in the AHL and Major Junior or D1 college hockey usually. It just shows you how skilled the top 2 lines are. The KEY to take away is that in order to have that opportunity, you have to play both sides of the puck or you will never make it as a 3rd or 4th line player in the NHL.

    Just turned 18 and have never played hockey. I just found the sport and I’ve never loved a sport as much as hockey. I bought a stick and practice in my basement every day. My skating is pretty solid since i’ve rollerbladed my entire life. Ice was easy to adapt to. I plan on practicing all winter on the pond. Although it is unlikely, I want to make the NHL. This video was great for motivation. Great to see what coaches look for.

      you have to essentially dominate every league you're in until you hit the NHL.
      for me, i dominated the lower levels as a pure goalscorer, and when i hit AAA midget, i wasn't that good and couldn't produce at the level i should have been. after that i didn't really know what role i was filling on the team and was pretty much worthless in both the bottom 6 as well. i could never convert my game to a bottom 6 role, and at the time, i didn't know that i needed to.
      good luck!

    I've got a son that has that inner drive. He had a coach tell him that to be the best, he should hit 100 pucks a night. So what does he do? He strives to hit 300 a night. He has done this ENTIRELY on his own. He tries out for AA next week. We'll see how it goes, but he is absolutely in love with hockey. I like what he said about "hockey is easy in Minnesota.". We live in Vegas, and he's got skating lessons at 5:30am on weekdays because there's no ice. It's getting better, and it looks like it will continue to get easier, but DANG! It is not easy here. We don't even have another travel division in the entire state. So when he has games, they're nearly always out of state at least a 4 hr drive away.

    • @CoachZac
      @CoachZac  7 лет назад +3

      Yes, you are very young you have a TON of time. The fact that you are here watching these videos shows a lot.
      Follow these rules:
      1. Keep learning, everyday be learning. You are NEVER to good to learn. Be a student of the game.
      2. Outwork everyone everyday. Don't let anyone outwork you. Get there early, stay late.
      3. Work on your stickhandling and shooting. There is no excuse not to have the best hands and shot on your team or in your league or even in your entire age division across the country. It ONLY comes down to how much you work on it. You can spend 4 hours a day off-ice on this training if you want to. Have the best skills on your team every year.
      4. Everyone acts like they work hard when coach or people are watching. It's what you do when NO ONE is watching that counts.
      5. Fall in love with the work, the process. Results don't happen overnight or in a week or even in a month. You have the love the process of improving and pushing yourself. Of training when you don't feel like it.
      If you do those things NO ONE can stop you. I promise you that.

When I get a job and a car, I plan on trying to find a local rink with roller hockey I could start out with. I’m 13, and just started practicing maybe a year or two ago. A lot of people tell me that it’s not going to happen. I don’t know what’s going to happen. Is there even a chance?! Thanks!

    I can't afford hockey but I still practice with used sticks that cost 3$ . could I still make it?

    • @teemu2979
      @teemu2979 7 лет назад +1

      It will surely help if you practice anything you can off-ice. But you need to learn how to skate and play hockey if you want to make it. Where there is a will, there is a way. Somehow you can find a way to afford it if your dream is big enough...

      Johann Sebastian Bach possibly because when I was 3 I couldn't afford hockey but I got a job as a red and umpire and I paid for my own equipment now I'm in midget

    • @samuelwong6448
      @samuelwong6448 6 лет назад

      Johann Sebastian Bach if you need equipment at a cheaper price, check out sideline swap or play it again sports, it’s used equipment but it’s better than nothing, but with a little dedication, anything is possible, ANYTHING, as long as you put your mind into it and want to achieve your goal, you will achieve it, NEVER GIVE UP !

    Hey 247 Hockey/D1BoundHockey - Great video - very interesting. I just happen to have finished a video on Hockey Careers on my channel - I'd like to know if I captured the main options correctly - be honored if you would 'fact check it for me'. Anyhow - keep it up! Question for you and Pat - what do you think about Private Hockey Schools - it seems to accelerate breaking through the chain consistently- what do you think?

    Zac I have been playing hockey since spring of freshman hockey. I'm only a sophomore now, but love the game with all my heart. I've worked hard enough to make the varsity roster and be double rostered. My coach told me on a one on one training that I was one of the most improved players he has ever coached and plans on be being a varsity team leader this upcoming fall. I am willing to work as hard as possible to make this true. And if I am a varsity leader, which is my current goal, do you think that I could shoot for larger goals like; making team Indiana roster. Then maybe higher level hockey until I eventually end up in some sort of professional league step by step. Do you think this is a healthy plan, and also a possible one. Thanks Zac, you're the man
