Pro tip Willie. Right-click the Firefox tab and select 'Duplicate Tab'. Much easier than copying and pasting the URL? Thanks for the vid though. Very helpful.
is there NAT option over vpn connection so i can use my router for my tablet or laptop as an internet access device? (not only to acces my home network)
The MR2200ac has the ability to plug an external drive to it via USB. This makes it as NAS. Strangely I cannot find any videos on RUclips on this NAS function on the the Synology routers.
Does the SSL VPN mean the remote user only needs a web browser as the VPN client? If so, what was the software that they need to install for it to work as seen in this video? Is it an add-on for the browser?
This was a great intro to the feature. I managed to get an OpenVPN connection setup and am able to route Internet traffic through the router, but I can't seem to access resources on the router's LAN while connected, by name or IP. I would have thought that would be the whole point of the VPN, but I can't seem to find a checkbox anywhere beyond the OpenVPN config's "Enable clients to access server's LAN". Am I missing something that's right in front of me?
I did the changes you made at +- 5:45 but in my case my connection is now insecure as shown by the lock being crossed out in front of the address to the router!? I don't understand anything about certificates and when I go into SRM, I see I have 5 choices to create a certificate?? Which one....how do I go about it? Thanks 🙄
I would have liked if you covered other standard VPN setups like openvpn and the appropriate port forwarding and firewall rules. I have an externally routable IP and yet I cannot get the openvpn for android app to be able to connect to my VPN no matter what I do.
Hi Willie. Awesome video. Im between Asus RT-AX88U and Synology RT2600AC. Im not a gamer and im mostly focused in router/house security which router would you say?
I enabled the RDC but the display quality, even on high, was horrible. Not a space anyone could be productive in. Is there a way to get a true RDC quality like it does with the MS clients?
Really Great video! Unfortunately I'm stuck at the webportal and when I try to log into ssl VPN it just says VPN disconnected. At the bottom it says " Connection failed. Disable IPv6 on this device and try again". I have disable IPv6 on my pc but it still doesnt work. Im wondering if I missed something here. Any ideas?
Willie, have you had any issues binding the synology router to an AD domain on a synology NAS? For some reason I can't bind the router to the AD controller on my DS1517+
Been beating on this for a while today... how would I create a VPN connection so I can share network shared drives on the local network? I have a domain with network drives, but can't figure out how to create a vpn connection into the local network.
I figured it out, just had to walk away and sleep on it. Using L2TP with the guest network and the router will route to the local network. It isn't explained or isn't obvious that the router will automatically route from the vpn subnet to the local network. Thanks for the videos (s) they are very helpful.
Hmm.... followed along. Checked my IP address online and it's still showing my location and open IP address. What perhaps did I not turn on/configure to hide my IP address to the outside world?
@@WillieHowe I don’t know what any of that means. I’m a total noob who just wants a vpn on his router. I give up. Thanks for the awesome video tho I’m sure it’s helped some people. i have this setup but it randomly stops working and wont let people log in .....You are not authorized to log in to this Synology Router. Please contact admin for authorization.
Willie Howe no it was a simple setup. Per synologys tech the auto reconnect will get you ip banned if you have that option checked. Told me to uncheck it and works fine again. They are looking into it. I wasn’t the only one with issues lately.
The router is capable of saturating the gigabit ports. However, Synology's reviewer's guide has reported that its internal tests clocked SSL VPN bidirectional throughput at 103 Mbps and OpenVPN at 53 Mbps, but no further details were offered.
Thank you for the tutorial. It really helps. I got a unrelated question though. How did you manager to change the admin user? I have done that on my Synology NAS, but I couldn't make it work in the 2600AC router. Any help would be great. Thanx in advance.

Wow, you answer all my question clearly and easily, you saved me soooo much time. All is working as I wish now. Thanks for this great video Willie
If someone is watching this now. Synology is offering 19 free licensees for your device. Snack them up!
FYI, The offer ends on September 30, 2021 (PDT)
I just added them. Great tip.
this works. thanks for your assistance! looking forward to watch your other videos
great video , you missed one subject dns not passing through vpn tunnel

Absolutely amazing video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He's got a video from 2018 timeframe that talks about port forwarding. I think the video is for a NAS, but it applies to this, too.
So the issue I am having is I would like to have a VPN for all of my devices. When I complete those tutorial, it installs the software only on one pc?
Stoked on this!
You can only do this with a Synology Router? I have a Synology NAS but with a different router.

hi! is there H/W acceleration for VPN server/client ? thanx
On 11.28 i hear you see something like "put this in a 1u box with an Intel Xeon 16 gig of RAM". So you mean it is possible to expand the router?
It was TUN I assume. Is TAP supported?

Synology is offering free site to site VPN licenses. I configured both sites and status is connected but can't ping each site.

Uncomment the redir gateway option on the config file.

I'm assuming you're saying to edit a config file.
1) where's the config file
2) 'Uncomment'.... ?
For some reason my DDNS is not working when I try to connect. Anyone know a reason why?
Willie my DDNS is not working
Does this device replace your existing edge firewall?
Just curious what firewall you use along side the Synology device?
Fail. I followed all of this directly and my ip is still visible in its exact location. What did I miss???
@@michaelcolgan5015 Did you edit the file and redirect the gateway?

From memory you can only set up an alternate admin name at the initial setup of the router - no way to change it afterwards.
Resetting the router worked for me.
Willie you flunk whit the explanation of WebVPN... Pls show how to configure WebVPN to access for example the Photo app of a NAS
HI! I can npt eneter PIN ! whatever I do , how many I put , anyway it says - Enter at least 8 characters.
Wayyyyy over my head
Will this work with vpn for a remote extension for a grandstream phone extension ?
