Hi, but could you measure ozone levels in room after keeping it working for some time and this time measure it from another spot and not from the vents since i'm guessing electrons released in the air combine to form ozone.. so it may not happen in the machine. So can u check the room for ozone?
Just got this air purifier on March 8th 2024 and so far so good. I was wondering about the PlasmaWave tech as others in the comment section mentioned. I'm actually glad this information is available and it popped up quick as i looked it up not taking me to random videos but directly to the point. Thanks! Great video by the way.
Amazing work, thank you for making this video. Like the other viewers, I was also a little concerned after reading the Amazon reviews. Guess i'll turn the PlasmaWave back on for now.
Not trying to worry you, just FYI, I was researching this 5500-2 unit and read that its Plasmawave function does produce ozone at about 3 parts per Billion. That is an insanely small amount, and personally I would not worry about it. Just wanted to mention it because while this is a good video, the testing meter they used only measured in parts per Million so that’s why it didn’t register on their meter. If it makes you feel any better, the 5500-2 is CARB-certified. CARB is a California safety agency that does extensive testing and will not certify anything that produces more than 5 ppb of ozone. I’m about to buy this 5500-2, it seems amazing for the price.
@@oscarescobedo8311 I'm not an expert but everything I've researched says ozone breaks down into regular oxygen in less than an hour at low concentrations, or in about 3-4 hours at high concentrations. 3ppb is an extreeemely low concentration so I'm guessing it breaks down in a matter of minutes. Or maybe 3ppb is the leftover amount that the unit regenerates faster than it can break down, until you turn Plasmawave off. Either way, it's not going to build up over time. I did buy the 5500-2 a few months ago. I usually run it w/ the Plasmawave turned off just in case. But I have used it w/ Plasmawave on when trying to get rid of chemical odors. I left it running for hours and didn't notice any adverse effects

Just curious, did you check if there was ozone with the PlasmaWave light off? I'm sensitive to ionizers, and they give me a sore throat. I recently bought a Winix 5500-2 and had it running at night. After three nights of waking up with a sore throat and the PlasmaWave light off, I decided to keep it on. That night, I woke up without a sore throat. From what I understand it causes particulates in the air (dust) to clump together and fall/stick to the ground/walls for easier filtration (going into the purifier) or cleaning (vacuuming or wiping surfaces). Less floaties.
Uh, there were lots of problems with your testing. #1 , you aren't suppose to put an ozone monitor on top of another electronic b/c it can block/mask the ozone and create electronic interreference with the unit preventing a registration. #2 Your ozone measuring device measures in PPM, you need a more sensitive device that measures between 20-50 PPB or parts per BILLION. I had actually talked to the manufacturer of the ozone detector for that device [it is used in other devices] and the chief engineer told me it was not going to detect the safe range for people [20-50 PPB -depending on which gov't study you go by]. If you notice, your meter is in PPM or parts per million and only goes to the 2nd digit. 90 PPB which would be unsafe, is not even going to register on a PPM meter, b/c the difference is basically 1000, and you measured in with just 2 digits. The other thing is even a .01 on your meter would be unsafe and there is actually a 10% error range on that sensor. Meaning you could have 200 ppb [extremely unsafe] and it won't show. Basically, you need a better [more expensive ozone meter]
Thank u for feedback. I can understand the concern for electronic interference. On the topic of ppb, I think your math is wrong. 0.01 ppm is equivalent to 10 ppb. So, this meter will pick up the levels of ozone for which you r concerned.
@@RobertoMikiMD Well I stand corrected on that calculation point.😆😅🤣 The plus minus on the sensor doesn't capture accurately lower ppb like 10-20-30, apparently you'd need a way more expensive sensor. Did you ever try to measure for ozone by putting the device lower and further away from the machine [as ozone sinks]. Also how long did you run the machine with plasmawave on before testing for ozone?
@@hernandayolearyallda I can definitely run the test again with the ozone meter lower and away from the machine. I still have the monitor and the purifier. I ran the machine for around 1 minute but can run it for longer. Any suggestions? It would be easy to do. As far as getting a more sensitive ozone meter I can try to look for one but I do have a budget.
@@RobertoMikiMD Yeah, best /most accurate ones usually going to run you a few thousand dollars 4-6k, the best cheapest one I seen was the air quality egg based off of aqmd testing which is a gov organization that independently test them, that starts around $1k, the rest of the ones tested, [and they tested dozens] aren't really accurate. There is a cheaper tester called eco-sensor which claims by the manufacturer to be accurate up to about 20 ppb in the "safe range". But I can't find any independent test to support it. That one is around 300-500$$$. Also the safe limits are based off of long exposures like 8 hours, so it is the kind of thing you'd have to run for like 8-12 hours [ionizer] and the leave the device lower to the ground [ozone sinks] to try to pick up something.

Turn off damn music

Thank you for advice! It has been noted in other videos.
