    If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

    Have you tried out the Winix D480 yet? It looks like Winix is only selling it at HomeDepot. It looks like it's basically a 5300-2 with a more powerful motor (90W).
    The D480 says it is AHAM verified for a 480 square foot room. The CADR of the D480: 310, 312, 348. So the CFM would be something like 320 CFM (CADR->CFM).
    I'm trying to get the specs from Winix. From what I can tell it uses a impregnated carbon filter like the 5300-2. No Plasmawave.
    If this is true. The Winix D480 could be a better purifier than the 5300-2 & 5500-2 if you don't care about the pellet carbon filter.
    For the price it's also getting close to the CFM of the the BlueAir 211+ (350 cfm) but with an actual TrueHepa filters.
    I've read some reviews that this model will be rebranded in this year (2021) by Winix.

Today I purchased the XL Winix D 480 at Home Depot for $ 219.00 and is beautiful in white! I use the turbo setting and then can put it on sleep mode and it is SO QUIET. Ahhh 🙃

    • @jTempVids
      @jTempVids 3 года назад

      If your not going to or don't want to mess with the warranty on the Winix (2 years). The ticking noise is most likely the impeller. It tends to come lose sometimes or not be tightened enough at the factory. There are multiple videos showing how to fix it. ruclips.net/video/kWxs-RHd3dI/видео.html
      How do you like the D480? It seems to be a more powerful Winix 5300-2 (250 CFM) with no Plasmawave. I've been thinking about buying a D480 for the higher CFM (320 CFM).

    Good reviews, but need to emphasize the extra cost of the WAC9500 and U300. I bought one WAC9500 and a WAC5500 (not the 5500-2) back in 2016. Shows age of the WAC9500 model. Those cassette filter packs are VERY expensive. The carbon filter and pre-filter can be washed, but the HEPA filter is not washable, it lasts only one year and CANNOT be purchased by itself (intentional design). Thus you must buy a new cassette every year (recommended interval). Right now (2020), it cost about $74 and the cassette does not match older units. Winix does acknowledge a design change without any model change. I have the older design, so I must open the new cassette and put its components in my old cassette - what an engineering mess. Go for the recommended models that allow replacement of each individual filter. The cassette models are just cash cows and a poor design.

    I just bought it based on this but the EU version winix zero pro(329€) -EU MSRP. Suddenly I noticed that Xiaomi Pro does have 500 CADR, and even 600(Pro H), 700(Max) and HEPA filters(not sure if it's like-hepa or true). Did Xiaomi broke all these well-established brands with their offering? They are “smart” so it's appealing (for example, zero pro isn't). Are you willing to test? As Xiaomi is usually cheaper, smarter and popular brand.

      If you're talking about the Winix 5300-2 or 5500-2 I would recommend two such units for a 600 sq. ft. space. You could try using one at first to see if it lowers particle concentration to an acceptable level for you, but based on my testing I wouldn't recommend one unit for any space larger than about 300 sq. ft.

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  4 года назад

      It's unlikely as it's very similar to the 5500-2 and 5300-2. The only significant difference between the C545 and the 5500-2 in terms of performance is the gas filter. The C545 has a fibrous carbon filter while the 5500-2 has a pellet-based carbon filter.

      @@consumer-analysis The C545 uses a different filter size (filter "S") than the standard "filter A" of the 5500-2, 5300-2, and C535 ('A' also fits the 5500-2 but doesn't have the advanced carbon filter that filter "H" does). So there may be a harder time finding deals on filters for the C545 in the future. It also has plastic clips instead of magnets for the front panel's top attachment, which have potential to wear out/break.

    What do you think about the new Winix AM80 vs the Winix 5500-2? From all stats I can find, the main difference comes down to the timer & remote availability, and CADR (dust / pollen / smoke): [AM80] 233 / 240 / 230 vs. [5500-2] 243 / 246 / 232. How big of a difference does this lower CADR from the AM80 make? They're the same price on the Winix site.
    Basically wondering if the lower CADR from the AM80 is worth the more modern look, but not really willing to sacrifice lower performance if it's going to make a tangible difference. What are your thoughts?

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  4 года назад +1

      Looking at the specifications for the AM80, I don't think there should be much difference in performance between it and the 5500-2. If you prefer the more modern look of the AM80 I say go for it.

    What do you think about building your own air purifier? Does slapping some high quality fans on some filters work?

  • @jjs777fzr
    @jjs777fzr 3 года назад +3

    This was a well done comparison of the models. Interstingly I found on Amazon the spec for the 5300-2 is 3 lbs heavier than the 5500-2. I placed the order for the 5300-2 simply because I am not concerned with the odor absorption benefits of the pellet based charcoal filter of the 5500-2. I’m looking to reduce the chances of COVID-19 virus in the house. I already run 4 20” box fans with filtrete 20x20” high grade filters on the back. Its amazing how much dirt these filters catch. For anyone looking for a cheap alternative I highly recommend the box fan/filter combo. The winix will provide perhaps better filtration but mostly aesthetically pleasing cabinet and quieter operation. I’m not afraid of Covid-19 but if I can take precautions inside the house with air cleaners not.
