@@perihelion7445 idk i think being pro life and being vegan are two different beliefs and one doesnt necessarily imply the other. you'll meet vegans who are pro life and some who are pro choice. i think suffering occurs naturally in the world but the definition of veganism is to limit the suffering we cause as far as practicable and possible. that applies to humans and non human animals.
The farmer only listens to the sound of his own voice - It sounded like he is having an internal battle with that stuff, even using the word murder for the killing of the sheep he farms...he knows, deep down.

1st guy was pretty reasonable.
@Nicole Rose I wouldn't say it is a good question at all. It's a way of justifying his own actions by pointing at something someone else is doing that can be considered worse so he feels righteous enough to continue his own barbaric lifestyle. We humans are often guilty of this. I work with a guy who does this. He is smart and claims to love animals yet the "halal" thing is the last pathetic excuse for a justification that he clings to. It's just another form of cowardice. And if we all do this, that is look to what other people are doing that is worse than ourselves as a measure for our values, as opposed to looking at what other people do better than ourselves, then this, collectively, is a huge problem. The former ends in cultural decline and decadence and the end of civilisation and by extension the end of animal rights as it is only civilisation/prosperity that facilitates this in first place. The latter strentghens our moral convictions and integrities and allows for true human evolution toward what we could be.
I think it is a mistake to focus on that (halal) in particular because it gives people an excuse/justification for their own actions at the same time as driving a wedge between cultures which would otherwise have a better chance of getting along. Alot of westerners/europeans seem happy to jump at any "reason" to hate muslims, unjustly for the most part, and halal is just another one that helps the ruling class to 'divide and rule'.

Works pretty damn well and we should be on guard against this.
Probably a longer answer than you needed and a shorter one than I was inclined to give but basically I don't see halal as a big issue. Cruelty is cruelty and debating halal compared to non-halal cruelty just diverts from the main aim of ending animal exploitation, which includes halal anyway.
Brings to mind the footage from Earthlings (I think) where they show "kosher" slaughter.
It's one of the most deplorable pieces of footage I've seen.
I think differentiating between slaughter methods is almost equivalent to getting bogged down in semantics or 'lost in the weeds' so to speak.
Focusing on halal is almost akin to people (like the first guy) basically saying "surely there is a more humane way to exploit animals for cheese".
Maybe a better way of saying what I am trying to say is that if people arw usually disgusted by what you refer to as "more humane" and are opposed to it in their actions then of course they will be opposed to halal anyway. To me it's a non-issue.
Also if Joey were to focus on Halal then this would also lose some of the advantage provided by the 'perceptual contrast principle'.

@Nicole Rose He does, he's explicitly against it. He doesn't specifically single it out because he's not a welfarist, he's an abolitionist. The difference between halal and other slaughter is a welfarist issue. Focusing on it gives the impression other forms of slaughter are fine.

@Nicole Rose Yeah, no problem.Welfarism is the concern with making slaughter more "humane", making cages bigger, taking cows' children away more kindly, hanging a wind-chime in a farrowing crate and so on. In other words, increasing the welfare of that animals you are exploiting. Abolitionism, on the other hand, is trying to end the exploitation of animals.
@Nicole Rose vegans believe that animals are not here for human use. They are fighting for animal rights/liberation. The right to not be used/exploited/enslaved/killed and eaten in situations where it is unnecessary to do so and we have other alternatives. People fighting for animal welfare believe it IS ok for us to use animals, as long as we try to do it in the 'nicest' way we possibly can. Vegans believe there's not a right way to do the wrong thing and animals are here with us, not for us.

You know what's awesome about being vegan? I was feeling lazy today so made a quick lunch of pan fried veggies with caramelized onions and as I was eating it I thought to myself "This whole meal has cost me less than $2".
I get we are all fighting for the animals, but this method just isn't working. We should sneak attack home makers by telling them about our cheap eats, plant (no pun intended) ideas and let them think they are choosing.
I entice soooo many people into eating vegan just by saying things like "oh wow! This recipe is awesome and so cheap to make as well!" Sure, the people are not 100% vegan but even just a meal here and there is a life saved.
I find that my "helpfulness" is far more effective then these kind of tactics.

I went through a process and it changed the wrong perception I grew up with. Now I eat plant base meats and more vegetables, never been more happy. Im not as depressed and have less anxiety and certainly more energy. What can I say. I no we find it hard to believe one another as we seem to live in a sea of lies. But it worked for me. I would try it. I would learn it. Its worth every second of your life and the animals. Be ahead of things. Go plants or vegan

An idea is too mention to people that foods are drugs and have chemicals that make us feel a certain way so when the guy at the start was talking about cheese you could educate him on the casomorpheine compounds in milk that stimulate the same receptors as morpheine which is why he was saying that. Because some cheese smells like mouldy socks and is gooey slime but it’s the chemicals that trick us into liking it....much like cigarettes they are disgusting but the chemical release is what people become addicted too like cheese. Either way keep up the good work 🌱🙏🏼

@@Jarv263 No big deal, think about it and start with baby steps. I became vegetarian for a couple of years and was really addicted to milk products. Then I skipped/replaced one after another of my favorite milk products, and one day I was vegan! 🤗🤗🤗

Vore it seems crazy that I would worry about not eating certain things because I might miss them, I cut out all unnecessary drinks and I’ve only drank filtered water for the last 3 years and the idea of drinking caffeine or soda makes me cringe. So hopefully I can apply the same thought process. Like you say one step at a time 👍🏼

I think part of the issue is that people particularly in the West are living very opulent lives at the expense of the world’s habitats . If people cut down their portion sizes and consumed a little less not only would that help the high obesity rates but also the need to keep breeding so many cows that are raised in sub par conditions.

To answer the first guy, there is an alternative cheese made of milk from probiotics like microbes, that tastes identical to cow milk, minus the negative effects. Checkout companies like PerfectDay and Real Vegan Cheese. And even apart from all this, Oat milk truly tastes amazing with coffee.
