As a United man from Ireland, I still strongly maintain my belief that I would have as much chance of beating Brock Lesnar or Dwayne The Rock Johnson at Powerlifting as Ireland winning that 2002 World Cup even if Roy Keane played.
The worst thing is the Irish players and mick talking like they had a successful tournament!! They didnt win! Theres the problem, Keane wanted to win, the others wanted a jolly up and the fact one of the players said we wanted to prove we can do this without roy keane is so depressing! They needed that as motivation!
The fact he treated his most important player like that shows how deeply insecure he was and how he put himself before the team. Imagine Ronaldo 7,9, Zidane, Maradonna, Beckham etc getting treated by the manager like this or there teams being so unprepared! Keane was 100% correct! All good managers treat there best players different
@@MrThedonhead Yet recently Erik Ten Hag proved to be so much more important to the future growth and development of Manchester United than Cristiano Ronaldo. And to be honest, I think both Pep and Klopp would have handled the Ronaldo situation at United last season in a similar way.
@@RadioNul It made no difference who the Irish manager was back then because Keano is such a hot headed volatile character that he fell out with Sir Alex 3 years after Saipan.
There's no argument. If you're a manager, then you are bound by your role, to manage your team. Part of that, you have to recognise when a team member wants change, because he wants the best for the team. Keano won as captain of the top club team in the world of that era, Man U, winning countless leagues, and not least the treble, levelling up in titles with the mighty Liverpool. If you as manager reject making progressive changes - such that what has been proven to be better than how you are doing it isn't prioritised - then it's your fault that you blocked those changes, and so, things didn't progress. At the very least, it's not the fault of the guy who suggested the change in standards! What's the point of a team, only to strive to higher standards... Love from Cork. Up the Rebels!
Mick macarthy couldn't manage one player!! Must of been so hard for Keane to have someone like mick telling him what to do! Mick put his own ego before the irish football team but being English it is no surprise
Mick McCarthy and FAI between them screwed that World Cup all up. Ireland COULD have got really far in the competition. If they got to the last 16 without Keane. They clearly could have gone further WITH him. If Turkey and South Korea can get to the Semi .... Ireland could have made the Final.
There talking lke the man didnt leave his family as a young teenager to join forest and its his first international tournament home sick what a stupid comment . But the other players playing golf well thats none of his buisness who did he actully think he was .Also for the people who say Mick McCarthy should talked to him in private did Keane do the same for McMarthy and the players no he did the most unprivate thing u can do he went to the papers .
Keane was as unprofessional as hell pointing pointing out how unprofessional the FAI was - and still is. He should've kept his big mouth shut and got on with it.
@AndyOKelly-xz5ky I read your reply saying he should have kept quiet about the training ground However he has been proven right about the incompetents really corruption of the Irish football (soccer) association during that time
We could have done it because the Germans dutch and Portuguese couldn't beat us back then.We beat Holland with 10 men for knocking the out in the group.
Keane had McCarthy to a tee, a decidedly average player and even worse manager. How hard must it have been to be playing under a colossus like Fergusson and then be listening to some sort of Mike Bassett figure.
“Stick it up your bollocks!” is an all-time favourite 😂😂
lol

Everything that was said by the Irish players against him- you see who they are. Big differences in career from them and keano.
Years later trying to learn various moments in football history… McCarthy’s treacly Yorkshire accent and knowing what Keane called him…😂
Keane acted like a total tool.
McCarthy is as Irish as Keane.
Unless you think English born legends like O'Leary, McGrath were limeys too.
Roy Keane Had High Standards That Mick, Marchary Chould Not Handle

Error Mccarthy is Irish. He actually played for us in fact.
Must drive Keane mad these English players talking about him!

We see the difference between a winning mentality (roy keane) and losing mentality (the manager and the rest of the irish 2002 squad)
Bollocks. We all know the facilities were Mickey Mouse. A real pro would've kept his gob shut and got on with it.
