  • This is the story of Ireland’s greatest chance to reach the final rounds of the World Cup. It’s a story that features two controversial figures who divided a nation, Mick McCarthy a respected and experienced manager and Roy Keane arguably the best midfield player in the world.

The Irish used to be Celts and strong, wild, individual, poets, music, fighters and some of the most interesting people and here they are sticking up for an English man someone who never lived in Ireland instead of a real Irishman!!

Keane let Ireland down to the absolute extreme no use be an amazing soccer player if you don't play ie he put himself before his country

has anyone questioned if keane has/had depression? Seems like he could to me. Layered character.

Although we're into the 21st Anniversary of Sapian, I still maintain my belief that I would have as much chance of beating Brock Lesnar or Dwayne The Rock Johnson at Powerlifting than Ireland winning the 2002 World Cup even if Keano played.

Imagine celebrating losing two goals and getting a draw! Where was the manager then who should of been putting a stop to the celebration! Any manager or person with pride would be embarrassed to lose two goals and tgen celebrate! I just can't fathom it?

Keane sent he sent the fai a message telling them he wouldn't be going on the 1996 summer tour. He didn't bother calling McCarthy. That was the context in which McCarthy made that comment.

Ots the same problem England have really with not have proper English players! How can they be patriot when half the team identify as another country? With italy, brazil, france thry all are proud but the Irish players mostly are mainly English and the English players are from Jamaica, irish or african. You can expect them to be a team especially when not allowed to speak about it

But this happens with other countries aswell which is nothing new nowadays for example: Ameryc Laporte born in France but got citizenship to play for the Spanish National team.
Pepe is a Portuguese international who was born in Brazil. Diego Costa was born Brazilian then changed his international team to Spain.
Patrick Vieira born in Senegal went on to play for France.

Yet when Ireland beat England back in Euro 1988, Ireland had only like 3 Irish born players in the lineup and in 1994 when we beat Italy, there was only around 4 Irish born players in the starting lineup which proves how much Irish football has benefitted down through the years with non-Irish born players.

Pity Keane didn't play because the way that world cup opened up Ireland who drew with Germany in the group in that world cup and we were arguably the better team without Keane so if we'd have had the best box to box midfielder in Europe we could have got to face the Germans in the semi final and maybe beat them but the outstanding Brazilian team would have been a step to far as we saw with Ronaldo scoring 2 in the final as they won 2-0.Destin will always prevail.

Perfect example of the winners mentality from Roy Keane. Lads celebrating after drawing with Holland and Keane is having none of it.

Roy Keane tried to pull out already before he had to be asked back. He was a disruptive influence for both Ireland and Manchester United.
