    Ok something I just realized is a big problem: if Yord is supposed to be hot headed and barely knighted two years ago, why would you send a relatively young knight and their oadawan to detail someone you believed killed a high ranking Jedi Master. There should be at least a council member and another knight for backup.

    • @cipher48
      @cipher48 3 месяца назад +2

      Yeah. The jedi sent two high ranking masters to investigate that murder on Raxus on Tales of the Jedi. Dooku and Windu are the best of what the order had to offer, and the jedi murdered wasn't even on the council

    Here is the twist I think might happen: Mae ends up being killed by the Jedi, and the Jedi for political reasons try to cover up the death (perhaps she is killed while unarmed or after surrendering). This betrayal starts Osha down the dark path. The actual "acolyte" is going to be Osha, by the end of the season. It would be a great way of foreshadowing how the Jedi are already beginning to allow political motivations to guide their actions, as opposed to the will of the force or doing the right thing. I think the outcome of this story will also go towards explaining why the Jedi in the prequels are so hesitant to take on older Padawan's that already have established connections with their family. Even though Mae is a murderer, Osha will always be more loyal to her sister than the Jedi. Just as Anakin would eventually be more loyal to those he loved than the Jedi.
    The other theory is that the Jedi council throws Sol under the bus somehow, and that this also pushes Osha away from the light. In either case, I think that some kind of short sighted political move is going to bite the Jedi in the ass and result in Osha falling to the darkside.

    Seeing Osha rip the droid's head off to pick a lock was a bit alarming. The suicide Jedi (floaty Jedi is better!) seemed a bit odd. He just goes to a 'local Jedi temple' (according to subtitle) and hovers all day? And is Mae going to proclaim her challenge to all four of the Jedi ('Attack me with all of your strength!')? It's odd that if you look on-line, Amandla Stenberg is listed as portraying Mae, but Osha was not mentioned, at least not on the IMDb database. Since it isn't a big secret, why wouldn't they credit her with Osha, since she has more airtime than Mae? The acting was really rather bad, I'm not sure why the obnoxious Jedi with the crazy hair had his robes off (what was he doing?) but since he seems so ignorant, he'll probably turn out to be one of the big bad guys. All the males in the first two episodes, except for Master Sol, come across as fools or idiots. Floaty Jedi kills himself -- so much for enlightenment. Osha's character seems like it was pulled out of a kid's Star Wars video game an the droid has to be the most pitiful thing I've ever seen. It makes Lola (Leia's droid on Kenobi) look much better. The poor thing is a paraplegic droid! The aliens do look quite good, especially the Jedi aliens. But Jecki is really as obnoxious as Yord and she comes across too 'goody goody' and as a suck-up to Master Sol. I would not be surprised to see that she is actually working for the Sith (or whatever) by the end of the season. The whole thing is a bit amateurish feeling and hasn't grabbed me yet. It's funny that the best acting has been from the Korean guy that had to learn English for the role!

    Wouldn't the trade federation ship be able to easily prove Oshas innocence by proving she didn't leave their ship since she wouldn't have access to their hyperdrive and (if they did have smaller ships docked she could have taken) checking logs to see if any of them were taken at any point? Also there wasn't any security cameras anywhere inside or around the bar?

      @JoRoq1 3 месяца назад +4

      The lack of cameras is actually a rare consistency in the franchise, though in this case I think it’s more an accident from the writing rather than a deliberate consideration. The concept of pervasive high-quality digital cameras is very current day, and far removed from the then-familiar aesthetic of the 1970s and 1980s when security camera systems were expensive, cumbersome (requiring a lot of physical space for hardware and manpower to manage), and only provided low-quality images.

    I really don't understand what they are trying to do with this franchise anymore. These two episodes are absolutely boring. I don't know if its the script or the acting or both but with the exception of Sol it all seems fake or forced.
    I am tired of this franchise that was a pop culture phenomenon put through the gutter. Seriously if these stories were made and are still made for “children,” as I’m always reminded. Fine I do not expect the series to be Game of Thrones, but can we make them Harry Potter good? Why are people settling for Nickelodeon?
    At this point they are trolling fans with having people impaled with Lightsabers living but a dagger is more lethal. Or the sets so cheap that we have a person using binoculars to watch a fight two meters away. What happen to the Padawan ?

  • @sparrow4207
    @sparrow4207 3 месяца назад +8

    This show lost me almost immediately. Carrie Ann Moss's character KNEW that the assassin was going to use the bystander as a decoy and did nothing to counter the attack, almost like she let it happen. The next Jedi master died by committing suicide. That's two Jedi Master's who essentially killed themselves. The show seems to be hinting that 4 jedi were part of something bad that happened in the past and might be experiencing some type of guilt about it. The writer's of these Disney Star Wars projects seem to SEVERELY lack the understanding of what it means to be a Jedi MASTER. This is akin to seeing Obi Wan , another Jedi Master having ptsd and struggling with fear and cutting himself off from the force. Jedi Master's are trained from childhood to let go and be beyond these base human instincts.

    • @JoRoq1
      @JoRoq1 3 месяца назад +5

      It’s not lack of understanding, it’s deliberate. In interviews they said that this show was about power and institutions (which from the progressive activist view, institutions and the people who support them are bad). The Jedi are the institution in this series, so they are being portrayed according to that point of view.

    I am thinking more right now that Manny Jacinto/Qimir is the Apprentice, but we will be led to believe he is the master. I am pretty sure he is the masked Sith from the end of Ep1 but he is in reality the apprentice to the true Sith of the time.
    Just like Mae has her task of killing Jedi without a weapon, I think likewise he has been assigned a task to kill Jedi without fighting them, and he has manipulated this entire situation with Mae/ Osha to kill Jedi without himself being directly involved.
    We will eventually get the big trailer fight from the forest so obviously he reveals himself at some point, but even if he slaughters every Jedi there his being discovered at all would be considered a failure by his master. I see a scenario where he gets this huge moment where he slaughters all the Jedi and we are like
    'wow this dude is for real' only for his Master to come in after and dominate him in turn, showing us that as strong as we think we know the Sith are, they are actually even stronger.
    In the end I think Mae/Osha are just tools in a grander scheme that don't realize how truly unimportant they are while Mae at least believes she is part of something bigger.

    I know a lot of folk seem pretty mixed, but it feels very much so George Lucas Star Wars, for better or for worse.
    I know some people don't like the dialogue, and yeah it’s not great (a lot better than the stilted
    and staring dialogue in Ahsoka though I’ll give it that) it’s reminiscent of the prequels.
    The action scenes feel really good, seeing Force Kung-Fu is sick
    Very interested in who the master is, and what exactly happened on Brendok that causes Mae, Osha and all of the jedi involved so much trauma.
    What was so bad that Torbin killed himself over it?

      90% of the Disney SW media has been terrible. The writing is lacking to just awful, the characters aren’t interesting and Disney always tries to shove whatever social message they want to down everyone’s throats. It’s not about people being negative just for views. It’s because people are genuinely tired of Disney and their failed attempts to make good SW stories.

    I enjoyed it even if it isn't without its faults.
    I wasn't sold on the twins thing until up to the moment they actually saw one another face to face, thought there could be some dissociative personality disorder thing going on or events happening out of order but they quashed that prett quick. Interested to see where they go with it, it seems like Mae is out for revenge against the Jedi she blames for her sister's death except her sister... isn't dead. So then what is she fighting them for?
    Obviously Osha missed her shot on purpose at the end, and I am still not 100% sold on her being innocent and think she may know more than she is letting on or even is involved somehow.
    Sucks that Indara went out so quickly but Mae killed her the only way she could by threatening others around her and distracting her enough to deal a killing blow. She has been shown to be completely outmatched in all of her fights so far so l do wonder how things will shake out for her moving forward.
    Love the apocathary guy, and he definitely has more to him than he is letting on. He acts like a drunk and an incompetent, and yet he overpowers Mae almost immediately when she attacks him. Definitely something more going on there, not to mention him quoting the Sith Code and Mae seeming annoyed by it and possibly not understanding its importance.
    Sol is great, has a real aura to him that commands respect but you can tell he carries a lot of guilt and pain as well. Obviously something happened on that night Mae/Osha lost their family that no one is talking about which heavily affected all of them. Also realizing now that when Indara said "you.." in there fight it was be she recognized it was Mae, and not Osha like we were meant to believe.
    I like Sol's padawan quite a bit and she seems to still be stuck in that phase between being a kid and being a Jedi, she feels more emotive and outgoing than a Jedi of the time is meant to be. The other overly-confident Jedi is gonna get humbled HARD at some point, calling it now, possibly/probably fatally SO.
    The meditating Jedi was weird. I get something obviously happened on that night where Mae/Osha lost everything but i guess he had just been floating there for a decade and Mae shows up, cant touch him, then comes back with poison and says hey drink this and he is just like okay cool guess I'll die now. Also idk maybe it is just me but it was weird seeing an overweight Jedi in that temple, just seems to go against how they carry themselves.
    Anyways this was a good conversation with Thor and Naboo and cant wait for next week’s discussion!

    George Lucas compared the Jedi to US Marshalls. The Samurai were the main police force in feudal Japan. Knights enforced laws passed down by feudal lords. I think the police comparison is minimal, but also not entirely out of place. The Jedi were never supposed to be perfect. I just wish this show would demonstrate the transition from the Jedi of old into becoming this rather than starting them out here. But this ks basically the end of the High Republic period. What good guys - the Jedi or the High Republic - are hiring a bunch of Mad Max Cyborgs on a dirty transport to bring a possible Jedi killer to justice? Did I mention they're the High Republic. High. Seemed like the High Republic looked up Low Life Prison Transportation in the galactic yellow pages. Plus, how did that one guy deactivate the droids? He flicked his fingers on either side of his forehead and then zap. Is he a Force User? Wouldn't a show like this point that out or address it at least? If not was he a cyborg or using some device? Did I just miss something obvious? It was wrong in so many ways it just threw me off.

    My first problem with The Acolyte is that the Disney+ streaming appeared low-resolution. The scenes looked blurry. So I found a different way to watch the program.
    My second problem with The Acolyte is that the first two episodes don't feel that original. George Lucas's Star Wars always felt unique, different, and alien. The show takes us to several worlds that weren't that distinct from one another. The story and the characters haven't wowed me yet. I'm interested, but they feel routine.
    The first few episodes of The Mandalorian felt much more unique and alien. How is The Acolyte better than Kenobi?

    Hey Thor, at some point should we stop seeing so many new alien species in Star Wars? This is something I’ve been thinking about.
    It feels like every new movie and tv show makes this effort to design all new alien species. I get that it’s a massive galaxy and there should be variety, but I also don’t think any of the new species have been particularly memorable. I think it’s really when we see Rhodians, Twilek, Gungans, Wookies, etc (basically aliens that were from the Lucas years) that it really starts to feel like the Star Wars universe.
    Should they stop making new alien species and just start developing characters in the species we’re already most familiar with? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

    I agree with Sol being the best character to me. I feel like the writing for both characters and dialogue is quite spotty. Episode 1 was alright, but I especially wasn't a fan of the writing in episode 2. Some lines were redundant (like Sol telling the fellow Jedi that Osha was a jedi when he gives her a stun gun when they all already knew that). The bar scene dialogue was quite badly written (especially for Mae's lines for the first half of scene) and the scene was longer than it needed to be. And the dealer almost giving Mae the poison before putting a cap on it was stupid. It was just a "ooh, eerie but looks cool" moment that really meant nothing and added 5 seconds of screen time for nothing. You'd think he took the poison back to put a cap on it and then shake it for it to be ready, but no. It was just to put a cap on it. I just feel that a good chunk of the writing didn't get as much revision from screenwriter editors as it should have. Redundancies or scenes or dialogue that doesn't add to the story should have been spotted in pre-production and not make the final output.

    Yord is overzealous in his desire to prove himself a good Jedi Knight, being as by the book as possible.
    Jeckie's smart, she also enters the back of the shop when they go to question the poisoner, which I liked - showing rather than telling. But they also try to make her... cool? or charismatic? But she's too young so those lines fall flat and hurt the character.
    Sol is cool because he handles Vernestra with humility, is reassuring with Yord, listens to Jeckie's smart idea, accepts his own mistake when reunited with Osha and can perceive the larger threat when investigating Mae. A true Jedi Master and I hope they don't assassinate his character.
    The worst offences this series has done so far is to give the Jedi more of a political agenda. They serve the Republic and even then, there is often much debate and consideration about how much they should intervene.
    The other thing was having a Jedi unalive himself, particularly after being in meditation for years?! wtf was that!?!? Completely ridiculous.

    • @oXRaptorzXo
      @oXRaptorzXo 3 месяца назад

      Sol is the best I agree. Jeckie is also awesome though. The show doesn’t try to make her cool. She wants to be like that, like her master. She’s trying to convey that same presence as him.

      A Jedi who's been meditating for a decade is doing that as penance. His mind isn't switched off during that time, he's dealing with his inner turmoil and this show makes it seem like he's completely shut down.
      Jedi don't kill themselves, it is that simple. And unaliving oneself being acceptable is not something that Disney should be pushing.
      I was simplifying it because I didn't think i needed to explain in detail how fundamentally wrong it is both for Jedi and in Star Wars.

    • @JohnSmith-pm3ew
      @JohnSmith-pm3ew 3 месяца назад

      @PaletteWIngs The only reason why Mae would know of a weakness from a random Jedi like that is if she knows what he and those other Jedi she's trying to kill did.
      They severely fucked up or went against the code and killed/murdered Mae's parents and tried to kill Mae. Think about it: force sensitive twins? So much potential, but if they are already 8 by the time you discover them, it's really too late to train them. But they are still powerful, and without training they might end up being threats.
      So.... however they reasoned it, the Jedi wanted them separated. Hence the attempted killing/assassination. So they could control the one twin better by having them think their only family is the Jedi. Except doing this is wildly against the Jedi code. That isn't the only reason why someone would go into a meditative state for 10 years, but it does explain how someone could feel guilty enough to off themselves even after a decade.

    Star Wars: The Acolyte, the newest installment of "star wars thing that has actual flaws and valid critiques, but where annoying anti-woke nerds make up shit about "lore-breaking" things that all happened in the original movies anyway"
    I somewhat enjoyed it, and I’m interested to see where it goes but there was definitely some stupid decisions.
    Like why did the Sith turn on his lightsaber? Is he stupid? this wasn't the only thing that happened just because of “plot” when osha sees the jedi landing on carlac she runs (what even is her plan B because isn't it uninhabited?) and arrives on a lethal cliff edge, then just waits there for the other characters to show up.
    Also I recognise that having the dark sider reveal his lightsaber is a good way to end, it reveals more of the scale/ significance of the story, but there were infinite interesting ways to do that scene. maybe a kind of sith knighting session for mae after claiming her first jedi?
