Tour my fabric meditation books

  • Look through some of my fabric meditation books that I have made using slow stitching, found nature like stones, birch bark and sea glass, natural fibers like Tibetan yak down yarn and indigo dyed nettle yarn and old textiles from Japan (boro and kaya mosquito netting) and old kantha blanket remnants from India. I also love using Japanese sashiko threads, hand spun cotton and linen threads and thin sewing threads. I make each book slowly and intuitively using a variety of art materials that I find. This practice is both a meditation and mindfulness practice, inviting me to turn inward as my hands slowly hold and stitch the soft, weathered fabrics.

    I'm so glad you mentioned stitching paper. I have a squirrel out of a magazine I want to stitch for a fall table runner made of 5x5 squares. I wanted to just stitch over it, paint it with thread but I've not heard anyone mention this. Now that you have I'm going to do it. I love your books. Especially the little one with a wrap and the scarf. I practice stitches by making bookmarks. I have sooo many of them. That and on denim hearts.

      I love that you are going to do for it and explore your idea, Rae. Every time I have done that with something I haven't seen someone's else before, it always leads me down an interesting path of self-discovery and creative empowerment. I wish the same for you.

    I’ve just found your channel! So happy 😊!
    I loved every single book, specially the ones that you buried. I admire the simplicity of the stitching and the few pages the books have. For some reason, mine always have lots of stitching and lots of pages... maybe I have many things to tell (?)...
    I definitely think that stitching is like writing poetry. I always say that, as I wouldn’t know how to write a book, I stitch them 💙💜💛❤️💚🧡🖤💗♥️

    First, I’d like to tell you that I found you on Sketchbook Revival 2023. I loved the Poetic Stitching lesson. Thank you so much for sharing that with us. Now I am following you on RUclips and going back and watching many of your past videos. Love the scrolls and tiny stitched books.
    My question is, do you make the little books first and then stitch into them, or do you stitch the pages together and then add your poetic, intuitive, embellished stitching? Love, love, love this peaceful process! Thanks again. 🤗❤️🥰🙏🏻

      Hi Maria, for my books I like to stitch 4-5 blank pages together and then explore stitching on the pages intuitively from there. Some of my students like to keep the pages loose and free and stitch on them first, then bind them at the end. There's no right or wrong way to do it, I'd just play and experiment and see what resonates with you.

    Do you stitch the pages before sewing them together in the book?

    • @deeprootedhealing
      @deeprootedhealing  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Sheila, I like to bind the book first full of blank pages and then stitch inside, I find that having the container first to work in resonates with me.

      I do love to wash them in the lake down the street from my house and I've also washed some in rainwater puddles. I love that it infuses the books with the healing energy of nature's water.

    How do you use your meditation books

    • @deeprootedhealing
      @deeprootedhealing  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Judie, I like to have them sitting out in my home in different places. Sometimes I use them as meditation objects, where I'll pick one up and slowly flip through it, touching the elements, breathing slowly and deeply. I find that I love having their peaceful presence around me.
