man you have best looking O scale stuff i have never seen. lot people never bother to weather there O scale stuff.
Actually, I watch your videos over and over!
You are something else.just fantastic
Every one of your videos is must see. We watch and rewatch them. You’re the man Norm.
Hello Mr. Charbonneau! Great video of the K4 Project! Thanks for Sharing!

You are an xpert modeler with the HEART of a teacher.
You are one of the only people I see whether their engines.
it makes it so much more realistic.
Spectacular work! I can't imagine having the courage to try and weather an expensive O scale model, but yours always turn out fantastic. The TPU traction tires are a great idea as well.
All of your videos are great! Very educational and you also show the process. We enjoy the journey! 👏😊
Top-notch weathering skills 👍
Welcome back Norm. Hope your summer went well. Looking forward to more content this coming winter.
Train season actually started a little earlier this year, I just haven't had time to put a vid together!
Wow! This is the Ivy League of O Gauge . The MLB of O Gauge . Another level of excellence . Very humbling to watch your work . Taking on virtually any project without fear ! Appreciate what you do Guy . Very fascinating so thank you . Your work looks amazing .
The numbering looks good from here, Norm.
Look on the bright side can't get much more realistic then that wheel slip lol 😆
Amazing work as always. I'm not into 3rail or even northeasters prototypes, but your work is so compelling I just can't get enough of it
...well put! Ditto!
I love these videos and make them as long as you want. I literally learn so much each time I watch a new video. I recently discovered myself, with the model air sprayed over real dullcoat then sealed with another layer of dullcoat on top can rub off on the end of a stock car I was weathering.
Love the work and amazing job as always. Keep up the incredible job!
Norm The length of your videos is fine no worries . You give so much valuable information.
Glad to see you back, this is looking great
ALWAYS good to see your trains!! The electronics are beyond my pay grade.....I run conventional and sounds is low on my priority. Thanks for sharing!!!
Well this is my new fav train channel on YT
I love your work Norm, even though
I model mid 80s Conrail I can get my
Steam fix watching your channel!!
I can feel your pain with the discontinued paint, I loved Floquil
Conrail Blue and was extremely
Bummed out when they went away!!
I have a few bottles of Floquil in my stash. They made a great Brunswick Green!
Another outstanding video.
Simply fantastic, thanks much.
Norm!!! Dude!!! Sure been missing you!!!
Been quiet around hobo jungle lately
Amazing work Norm. I love the 1361 K4.
This is my dream layout! Simply amazing, the weather is amazing.
Thank you for the upload. Very interesting!
Great video! No need to apologize on the length. I love these longer videos where you go into depth on your mods and repairs.
You do excellent work on making the upgrades and modifications on the K4. I have the Weaver brass K4 with two of them with the same numbers.I just might try and make one of them the 1361.
Looks great norm!! You should see New Bedford these days. Lots of freight and the commuter rail is close to being completed, also in Fall River!
That town had some cool RR features. Always wanted to find old photos of the elevated section along Purchase St.
Very nice model! Fire up 1361!
I love this model locomotive and freight train set ❤
honestly when you were testing the heavier train, it was almost like the engine had a wheel slip feature. I thought that was so cool
Hi Norm, even though I'm an HO modeler, I've been enjoying your videos, thank you so much. You are a true master craftsman omg do you sleep? Is there a video where you talk about yourself sort of outside the realm of trains? Your work background, family, other interests, etc. Your knowledge about almost everything train related (electronics, paint, 3D printing, machining, etc.) is simply amazing. Thanks, Vinny
...and perhaps your train storage system, workshop arrangement, tools, etc.
@@bumpingpost thanks for the kind words! I haven't done a full shop tour but hopefully some of the activities I've filmed so far give a sense of it. As for a vid on me, maybe someday. It took me a while to want to put my voice to video so I'm a little slow on the personal info stuff.
He’s back!
You definitely have talent. Great job!!
Interesting you mention it dropping chuffs when it warms up. I had a similar problem with a 3rd rail B&M Berkshire, and after awhile it would go completely unresponsive to TMCC. I think I determined that the voltage regulation on the EOB boards is weak, and for some reason it keeps getting higher as the loco warms up. It was completely fine if I kept track power under ~15v, but the normal 18-20 we run is too much for it.
I’ve had the sensor sag a bit after a motor is warm enough. This can cause chuff drops and speed changes. I have all the components I need to do an ERR upgrade on this engine so I will get to it soon.
Your models are great. I was disappointed when model master paint was discontinued. Have had some success with true color paints
I use a lot of the Vallejo paints. My solution to the pattering issue is dropping the pressure a bit. I start with color, then finish with Testors matt clear, just to seal everything in. I do not recommend the newer Tamiya flat sprays, they've been eating decals and pooling for a lot of people. If you're going to do layers with the Vallejo, clear in between them with the testors.
I may try them again on some other projects. I do like the way Tamiya sprays and will try those paints a bit more in the future.
I like tamiya paints personally and the Ak stuff I understand is pretty good.
I like the Tamiya stuff too. I have yet to try AK, good idea!
great paint! use it
Very much appreciate your longer video and commentary. Why did modelmaster disappear ? Maket too small, ingredients too expensive to sell reaonably... owner retired? Was modelmaster manufactured in usa?
Floquil/Polly S/Polly Scale were independently owned into the mid 2000s when Testors acquired them. Testors took the basic weathering and generic RR colors and folded them into the Model Masters acrylic line. About two or three years ago they discontinued the RR colors altogether.
Next New York Central Streamline Hudson 5445.
Welcome back Norm, thought you abandoned us like Pennsy did to steam.
Also why not use rubber traction wheels instead of plastic?
I can't seem to drag myself into the basement during the warmer months. Not that it stops me from getting new trains though - on deck is my Legacy Y6b (almost ready for a vid) and a Vision CC2 (as of yet untouched). I also hope to blab about my new resin printer soon!
I went to Tamiya after Testors. Still use Dullcoat to finish.
I like their German Grey as a replacement for Grimy Black.
11:12 Wow, I loved that slippage.
Can I ask you to do a full video of the PRR S1 run?
I kinda blew it - I was supposed to get a set of scale Lionel Broadway Ltd. cars to run with it but let them go. Maybe if I see another set for a good price I'll snag them.
Nice video. Though I am an On30 modeler I subbed today to your channel. The coal load in the tender caught my eye? Is the coal load real coal? Is that something you did?
Thanks. the coal pile in the tender was recycled from the original load that was glues to a lead weight. I needed the weight out of there so I could stick my TMCC antenna there. The coal load is now attached to a 3D printed base that covers the antenna.
I mean passenger train set❤
Norm, just curious, your weathering, lighting and sound looks so real, but I noticed you don’t use smoke. Is it because you don’t think it looks real, or is there another reason? Not a criticism just an observation.
If I use it, I do so sparingly. It is really nasty to my weathering efforts, it’s like taking a can of WD-40 to your engine after a while.
hey norm i was wondering do you plan to get a geared loco? i think the way your setting is it would look neat to see a shay, climax, or heisler steam loco pulling log cars and after you weathered them too
No, can't say I have any plans to get one. They are neat though! I have many locomotive projects in the works that I hope to document soon but nothing in the realm of geared steam.
Hi Norm - Do you have reversing loops? Thanks.
No I do not but the first version of this layout had two before I reconfigured it to its present form. It was kinda cool while it lasted.
What mill do you have?
Just a little Sherline 5400
I never did liked tethers, to me it takes away from the realism of a scaled running steam locomotive . 3rd rail should to up grade to err
They changed over to ERR more than 10 years ago.
@@normstrains didn't know that, not up to date with 3rd rail. My apologies
