    i am making this with the red heart roll with it tweed it is coming along so good, at first i didn't think i was getting it but after i got started it just clicked. i did the single stitch for the collar and it's a little heavy but i like it. I will make another one and the next time i'll try the double crochet for the collar with a baby soft yarn. I love this poncho already and i'm only one and a half rolls in. Thank you @jonnamartinez you rock.

I have bought some Ice Yarn in Magic Glitz, weight #3, colour 'Purple, orchid, salmon, yellow' so basically a rainbow ! Could you please tell us some different sizes for this lovely poncho so we can make it big enough and not TOO big for our and our (grand)children's heads ???

    If I wanted to do it with a thicker yarn and a 5.5mm hook instead of 108 stiches how many should I do? Is it supposed to be the size of the head of the person I want to make it for? Or is there some calculation for the virus stiches that you need a certain multiple of 4 or multiple of 5? Thank you so much!

    Love your clear concise instructions Jonna.. Thank you .. well done - is there written instructions anywhere because I am in au and we follow UK crochet terminology therefore much easier to convert the terminology when it is in written format - so confusing to follow video and hard to convert.

      You are more than welcome Jonna, thanks for your response
      .I know it's hard getting it altogether I am working on several interrelated creative sites simultaneously, and while a lot of content is essentially the same, the handling of the content/instructions is different because the application is different.
      Not just due to sizing/pattern grading but due to the requirements of each Industry- ie Adult Fashion ( minimum seam allowance for economy to produce) to Costume ( with massive seam allowance to adjust to fit different sized actors) to Doll costuming with a massive range within the Industry of sizes and Costume Construction requirements (dependant on Doll construction/type and the expectations in the Industry of that type ).
      BJD owners will spend up to $1000 on quality outfits, whereas Reborners may spend $100's - and of course the Minis and Barbie type collectors may only spend up to $100 - so what you use and how you use it depends greatly on the market you are designing for..
      Construction wise a ball jointed doll can move due to all those joints so the patterns and fabrics have to be able to withstand that movement.
      Although the overall principal of Designing & Patternmaking remains the same.
      So videoing a technique as I go is an extremely valuable part of that story, and the written pattern and application requirements are essential to complete that picture for my students, but IT T.A.K.E.S. so much longer to do.
      So I completely understand. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    Nice tutorial thanks. How much grams of yarn do i need to make this shawl for a 10 year old girl

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  6 лет назад

      That really depends on what yarn you choose.
      If you go with the lion brand ice cream yarn, I would say between 700-1000 yards.

    I wonder if one could chain half the stitches, not create a circle, crochet a ribbed rectangle and then, at the end, chain the rest and create a ring. You could then have a hood as apposed to a collar? Sounds like it might be a fun experiment! :)

  • @aliceshao1999

    Thanks for this beautiful ones! Can I do smaller collar? 108 stitch seems too big for me!

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  8 лет назад +1

      +Alice Shao I am doing a 2 corner poncho in different sizes.
      The reason it is 108 is because if you do the ribbing like my pink poncho it will be tighter when finished.
      There are two ways you can go smaller.
      1. Smaller hook, thinner yarn.
      Or 2. Chain 72 and only skip every one stitch for the loopy row.
      Hope this helps.
      Thank you for watching commenting and your patience in my reply.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet

      +Diane Blank you will chain the amount for the 2 corner and them fphdc, bphdc all around for as many rows as you like.

    Hello I found this today and had to get started. However I am finding the cowl portion to be working up quite stiff with the rhss. I have moved up to a 5.5 hook. Can I go up more or will it affect the virus pattern when I get there. Should I go back down in hook size when I reach that part? I am making size small and have purchased your pattern. Any of your help would be appreciated. thanks.

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  7 лет назад

      +CaraChrétien16 I think the 5.5 should be fine!
      And if you feel like going up more give it a go!
      I've made the virus patterns with all kinds of hooks and I have no issues.
      It's more changing hook sizes for the ruffling.

    I love this poncho and want so badly to make it. I have attempted the collar 3 times now, each time it’s twisted. Is there a hint, tip or secret to making it thru the first row without it twisting?

    • @JonnaMartinezCrochet
      @JonnaMartinezCrochet  6 лет назад

      +Karen Brown what you can do is make your chain then ch 2 and turn. Work the first row without sl st to join.
      Then fold the collar in half (flat) this way it cannot be twisted.
      Sl st, and begin the next row.
      You can do this with or without the coal collar.
      Message me on my Facebook if you have any other questions.
