Wow, almost too many compliments for me to handle haha but thank you! I started making videos purely for myself because no one else was really making theme park video essays and I've been really shocked they've connected with people (even if that audience is super niche). I think lots of people have had the experience of making a small creative project and putting it online to basically no response, and shouting into the void like that can be really disheartening. Point is, it's still wild for me to hear anyone saying nice things about my videos and it means a ton! It's cool to know other people also want to look at theme parks in a way with (hopefully) a little more depth

The part about the relief of not having to decide during a no buy is something I have really noticed too since I decided for sure that I am doing a no buy indefinitely. It really became clear how big part of my life preparing to shop was.

Fun fact: while "billet doux" means love letter in both French and English, the literal translation from the French is "sweet note." The English pronunciation is as close to the French as is possible to get with English phonemes: "bee-ay doo."

Edit : here as a scientist, just want to warn you about making things yourself. A body scrub is absolutely ok but if you consider using things like baking soda or caustic soda, maybe don't. It is not a judgement. However, I've seen a lot of "clean" beauty channel/blog/book recommending really dangerous things. I friend got into the hospital because his mother wanted to make her own laundry detergent and put caustic soda in a sugar pot

On the theme of DIY beauty, I'm on a make up no buy and have recently found a lot of joy in crushing and mixing powder products that don't quite work for me to create new face/eye powders (a too bright blush or bronzer remixed with a white/light eyeshadow for example). I often hear you say that a colour lacks x or y for your taste, but would love to see a video of you creating your own colour products from things that you otherwise might declutter.

Is it ok to request something from a RUclipsr? Apologies if it isn't but I thought I'd give it a go...
I'd love to see your interpretation of themed makeup. I really like the seasons so I have makeup for January, February and so on, and not necessarily following traditional makeup themes. It made me wonder what a HLP makeup look based on winter would look like and then I thought about other themes - what would a HLP look for libraries look like, or stoicism, or the state of Washington and so on. How would HLP interpret February through makeup and artistry? Would there be any crossover in the way I interpret February?
    There. That's my request.

Hannah, "billets doux", meaning in French something like "sweet notes", are little things you write down and pass on to someone you either fancy or plain love. It's also said for short love letters. It's pronounced "Bi-yeah doo", phonetically, the double L is smooth in French, not a hard L. I am very sorry for your loss ❤

I have also noticed that I can now watch films, read books, etc at 3-5 year intervals and happily enjoy them again, with the vast majority of the details being lost long before. The ones that have brought me the most joy are nice to look forward to down the line. I love the new, however sometimes there is a comfort to the old and reliable. Something pre-approved as such.
The pink top and blush draping. Gorgeous! Also can't wait for the bath/shower scrubs video as your previous video with Julia inspired me to do the same! I made a coffee scrub as those ingredients were already at hand and it was way better than I expected and it smells amazing. Will do a green tea one next. It was so easy and fun. Already has me imagining them as gifts💕

Yes! Moana! One of my favourite movies. It always has me sobbing at the end of the movie. I love how the movie is essentially about women helping women through trauma. When I realized that, the scene at the end with Moana and Te Ka just felt so much more powerful and I sob every time!

I first saw Moana as I was in the process of healing from a really devastating heartbreak, and learning how to be myself alone again, and the whole movie hit so many personal notes that I was sobbing out my catharsis basically the whole time. That scene where she's returning the heart to Tefiti and that softly powerful song was everything to me at that time. I'll always love that movie for how it helped me heal 💙

If you love a bit of Agatha Christie you might enjoy the Aussie series Miss Fisher's murder mysteries - set in the 20s and very fun, light, and has the same vibe (while not being British per se it's heavily influenced by British murder mysteries). On Netflix in some countries I think?
Honestly Agatha Christie is my safe space when the world is too much, at least the bad guys always get caught ❤️

Omg tis is totally a thing that you forget something and can re-experience it years later. I think this is why I love re-reading books, because while I can remember loving a book and maybe a general idea what its about, the details are gone so its just so enjoyable to experience again. And omg, Moana is so inspirational to me that I cry every time I even hear the music. I love it. I’m testing a crochet pattern tight now and chose yarn colors that were hand dyed based on Moana, and its going to be my favorite wrap to wear once its done❤️

Would love more reading & writing content on your channel :D. While we're talking about BLM and the horrible white supremacists invading our politics right now, I have a book recommendation. I just read The Prophet by Robert Jones Jr. and WOW. On the surface the story is about the lives of slaves on a plantation in Mississippi and the love story between two of the young men. But it's multi-POV and you get the perspective of all of the major characters (including the slaveholders, those chapters are real rough to read). This book raises a lot of questions: What does it mean to be an individual when you are enslaved? How much do you share of yourself with others when your secrets feel like the only part of you that is 'yours'? Is it okay to give your oppressors what they want if it makes your life more comfortable? Each of the characters has a slightly different perspective on these and you get to see how they play out in their actions. Amazing, amazing work.

Off topic but I've been meaning to tell you that you don't need to scoot to the left or right (though it saves some work in post) in order to do a split screen. You can manually move the clip on the timeline (sequence) by going to "effect controls" for the clip (if you're in editing mode this will be one of the tabs on the left video viewer). The "postition" controls let you move the clip by adjusting the number. Fiddle with the larger number to move horizontally. It is very quick and easy once you're used to it. Also you can apply the same effect to multiple clips by right clicking to copy properties of the first clip which has the effect and then command-v-ing on the subsequent clips. You probably already knew this but just in case!

Thank you for sharing Hannah. I know reading before bed is much better for me and is something I've consciously started doing this week as we've returned to working 'in-office' rather than at home (I'm in Australia which is in a very different place to US/US/EU in regards to Covid-19).
A series/author I'd like to recommend is Kerry Greenwood (female Australian author) who writes the Miss Phryne Fisher series - female private investigator in Melbourne in the 1920's - and the Corinna Chapman series - female baker with a hot boyfriend who dabbles in crimes/investigations on the side, set in modern Melbourne. Probably lean more popular, than pure crime fiction - Agatha Christie-esque though.

    anyway, SSSSSHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
thank you for creating a safespace for #blackjoy. everyone feels it. it's joy despite it all, and that's the common theme for this year.
soooo i'm 29 and have the same memory phenomena happening to me more each year, but i love it. i just set timers and write important stuff down. LOL i have a collection of physical media like Community, Read or Die: the tv, Life of pie etc that i'll go through every so often for rewatches. they were all from secondhand shops. what a distant memory those seem, now..

You've got to read The Red House Mystery by A. A. Milne. I'd never heard of it, but I'm trying to read the books referenced in Eight Perfect Murders prior to reading it, because I've heard that it's very bad about spoilers. And Red House, it was just so good! And yes, same author as Winnie the Pooh. :)

🎵 MAKE WAY, MAKE WAY! 🎵 🐚 the best movie ever 💕 in regard to reading, I used my January budget for a Kobo Libra. I previously felt that e-readers were nothing short of sacrilege, but as I creep toward 30, my hands are achey and angry. I'm obsessed with this little e-reader; it's such a pleasurable reading experience, especially at night since I'm not straining my eyes. Here's to enjoying stuff that enriches my life, while barely raising my fluffy eyebrows at new makeup launches! 🥳

This was soo lovely! You reminded me of how much I loved Pd James and have now added Cover Her Face (as well as the other pd james books) to my 2021 to be read list. I also recommend Dorothy Sayers' Lord Peter Whimsy series, and also Daphe Du Maurier's Books are brilliant. Some of my go to feel good moves (honestly my favorites) James and the Giant Peach, What Maisie Knew, Derry Girls,The Boys Are Back (with clive owen), and I also love the Princess and the Frog. thanks for making this video :D it helped remind me of the things I've been loving, and also giving me some more inspirations for the coming months. xoxoKira

I'm at about minute 14, and yes! Forgetting what happens in a book/movie/TV show you've seen previously totally happens to some people! I'm witnessing that every day with my dad. I work 3rd shift and live with my parents, so I hear/see a lot of what my dad watches (he's retired). After a couple months or years he'll find some show on Netflix and start to tell me about it and I remind him that he's already seen it. He doesn't remember anything about it so he watches it again, and I absorb it in the back of my mind as I do other things. It's kind of hilarious.

I ❤ Moana, sometimes I sing the song Shiny and just dance by myself in the living room, also, anything with the Penguins From Madagascar make me laugh "Kowalski Nu-cul-er reactor" 🤣🤣 amd then sing Afro Circus/I like To Move It. Chocolate, Music & Movies keep me sane.

I recently saw an ad that used "sweet tooths" as in "calling all sweet tooths out there." And I've heard that expression before also. So although it doesn't sound right I'm pretty sure it is correct to say!

If it has not yet been recommended, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton is the book that really got me back into reading fiction! I picked it up on a recommendation and I tore through it within days. Ever since I've been looking for mystery books that scratch the same itch, but I haven't been able to find any! Maybe I should also pick up some P. D. James books :^)

Hannah, do you remember the name of the channel you featured as a favorite maybe in April of so? It was a channel where you said the guy would feature like the sounds of a city n japan or a rainstorm in new your. It was a mix of interesting sounds that was helping you get through really being in the thick of quarantine. I made a mental note to go back to the video when i could look up the channel but times escaped me. I watch you video with my phone or pen and paper so i can enjoy every word you say!

I got the notification for this while I was cooking dinner and had a brain wave, I think you would enjoy milk street recipes. Thier food is pretty low maintenance, not necessarily quick, but utilizing a lot of whole foods and with heavy international inspiration. It reminds me a bit a cookbook author that I think you've mentioned who wrote a cookbook that was called Jerusalem. They have cookbooks and a website that you can subscribe to, though I'm not sure how much it is a month. As an entry point though they put out a magazine and have a show that airs on mpt (pbs but make it maryland) it would probably also air on pbs or whatever the California equivalent is.
