🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 A74(M) Gretna to Abington

  • A74(M) runs for nearly 50 miles between Gretna and Abington. It replaces the older 1960s A74 dual carriageway which has now been narrowed and renumbered to B7076 (B7078 north of Abington). The motorway is the middle number of a continuous motorway route between M1 near Rugby and M8 in Glasgow.
    The reason for these changes of number are due to politics, pre devolution there were plans for the whole route to be numbered as M6.

    So the M6 north of Carlisle becomes A74(M) and becomes M74 before reaching Glasgow. Very interesting motorway.

      Thanks mate and yeah it was. Got from home up to Abington that day so I covered a fair few miles!

      @driving_all_over I will be using this road on Monday driving from Rainham in Essex to Glasgow, it will be my first time over the border...

      You will find the roads go from one extreme to the other once you hit the Central Belt as you go from the scenery of the A74(M)/M74 to Glasgow which has its urban motorways
