I love this road especially the weird bits that are formed from the old A74 . I've done it twice now on my ER5 and twice on my Harley . It's probably not but it seems quicker than the Motorway .
What a wonderful video 📹 my friend. Awesome road trip. Fabulous views. Excellent videography skills. Spectacular scenery. Thanks for sharing. Stay blessed and connected.
The old A74 the old Glasgow to Carlisle trunk road until replaced mostly by motorway from 1960s to 1992 Two gaps remained: Beattock Gap (18 miles) Cumberland Gap (6 miles) Beattock Gap was upgraded to motorway (A74(M)) in 1999 leaving just the Cumberland Gap until it was upgraded in 2008 to become part of the M6.
Great road used to drive it in late 70's on Liverpool to Glasgow Market run. Drove back that way last Tuesday from junction 8 to Metal Bridge, didn't realise you could still follow most of original A74. Seem to recall a large layby around Beattock Summit area anyone know exactly where it was? Thanks for the video.
hi Ian oh yes,i see, the road along the M74......good to find a free parking for the night...haha.....there is an exit with a little truck stop, i have stop there for the breakfast....but i dondt remember if it is far of where you have filmed the video have a good sunday Pat
Depends how long ago it was Pat. There were a few in Crawford, a couple of miles further north from where Ian rejoined the motorway. I think the Crawford Arms Hotel is still going and the old Heatherghyll Cafe, (now The Hungry Trucker Cafe) just at the north of the village. On the old A74 you had Beattock cafe and Elvanfoot around that area. Further north, The Red Moss Cafe just north of Abington on the now B7078 ( the old A74 also). The list goes on Pat. ;-)
The old escape route when you know Vosa Beattock is opened southbound...lol Although I have witnessed the police pulling trucks into the lay-by at the Auchen Castle Hotel on the B7076, when the checkpoint has been opened. Next time you do this one Ian, stay on the A702 until jtn 13 Abington services. There's a nice little lay-by on the right N/bound just after Crawford where you can sit beside the river Clyde as it runs down the valley. You'll have seen it on your left plenty of times after jtn 13 when heading back south. Nice one, Andy5*

It's a good stretch of road for me to take a break as it's about 4h 10 from our place and only adds a couple of mins to the total journey time.
Slow Mr. Ian. Very dangerous for your driving licence ;-)
Nice area with the typical weather:-)
