  • G'day, So I decided to compare some different Factory available ammo's for the one caliber.
Here is Part 1: • .22 Hornet ammo compar...
I made sure the barrel was cooled down between each group shot, then ditched the outlier cold bore shot when measuring the grouping.
Any feedback let me know respectfully please and I'll carry on for other calibers. Hopefully by the end i can have it pretty good video structure with some feedback.

Excellent video. I love 22 hornet. I have a Ruger 77 22 hornet and it’s an awesome rifle. Only factory hornet I’ve tried in it was Remington, and PPU. The PPU was purchased just for a plinking load and for its brass. The Remington performed good for accuracy but not near as good as my handloads with hodgdon lil gun powder and 35 grain v max bullet. I did a discussion video on my 22 hornet rifle on my channel if you wanted to check that out.

I have 4 bullets that work great so far in my Anschutz 1430-32
35 grain V-Max loaded with LilGun
40 grain sierra varminter (#1385), probably the best bullet at 200 meters to, v0 around 850 mps with lilgun
45 grain RWS softpoint AND FMJ. FMJ is not made any more, but the SP is. They shoot identical with same loads, both H110 and LilGun works.
But v0 is around 750-770 so not optimal for 200 meters like the sierra varminter.
50 grain bullets works bad, best is the hornady SPSX and norma 50 gr softpoints. I have tested most 50 grain options with poor results.
Needs to be loaded longer then mag, 45-47mm.
In regard to reloading in general, neck sizing is king. FL sized brass tends to effect the pressures and make a load shoot bad.
RWS brass is the best, hornady is to uneven and often undersized so they expand and wear to fast.
    Remington has most case capacity.

Try Hogdon Li'l Gun powder.... it's better even than AR2205 (which I always used to use in the Hornet)... I'm getting 2850fps with 13 gr behind the 40gr V-Max and the pressures are low..... :-)

I use same rifle but use Winchester 296 10.5g and small pistol primers behind the V max for better results

The factory Hornady 35 gr. V-Max shoots 3/8" in my CZ, so I never bothered loading for it.

Excellent X 2! Yep, those V-Max rounds have the capability to elevate the precision and do amazing things in even old rifles or cartridges. Hornady is bloody expensive but it's good stuff. I want to try it in my 30-40 Krag as soon as I get my dies. Excellent vid! What happened to your old truck? That was an awesome shooting platform!

Justin Somerset dude the hilux or TACOMA with steel tray was the best for a shooting platform. My family still has a couple on the farm but this is my truck, new tacoma/hilux.
Thanks so much mate. The VMAX goes great and also great in .223 rem. in my hornet they take care of foxes out to 200meters. :)

+thesheepman220 No I haven't tried them yet but my mate uses them and he reckons they are great. I will have to try them but they are a bit harder to find down here in Aus. I wouldn't mind using some of there bigger stuff for my other guns.

+Skilpadjie1 oh really? Nah I haven't but may try grab some mate, those barnes are extremely light weight, should be able to get some high velocities out of them.

Ethan Isaacson it’s certainly capable but probably not enough power for pure ethical reasons.
