Ummm I wouldn't 100% trust me but I've been seriously looking into SAS so I might have some answers for you... Yes there is WiFi, but it is limited. I think you get a certain amount and then you can pay for more Yes you can use social media, but again, you only get a certain amount of WiFi (I think) Spa things like nails and hair are a separate cost I'm pretty sure I'm not completely sure about port time, but I think you have complete freedom (unless you are doing a field course or whatever they're called) as long as you are safe, responsible, and represent SAS well
i did a ton of research a while back, I have all the answersssssss yayayyyyyy okay so #1- yes there is wifi on the ship but it is extremely limited (7 minutes a day but sometimes you can get cell reception if youre really close to land i think) #2 Yes you can use your phone but most people dont for anything except taking pictures and videos since theres such limited wifi #3 Yes that costs extra #4 You can go wherever you want while youre travelling (even out of the country the ship is in), but you have to be back at the ship by a certain day and time or you will be left behind. You make all of your own plans while at ports. BUT you can sign up for guided things with semester at sea people (this costs extra but most people do at least a couple, and hotels and meals and tours are included in the price). The guided ones only take a few days not the entire time at a port. EVERYONE is required to take field classes which is like a class immersed in the country you are in (im not sure how many is required, I think just one or two but you can sign up for more if you want). You really need to invest in a reusable coffee cup! So many single use products, even though you're on a boat and could probably just get everything in an everyday mug anyway....

I wanna do SAS but it's soooo expensive. Like I can not justify spending that much for a semester especially because I'm only gonna be spending like 1/2 of the price (not including the expenses for stuff on the ship) for a full year

My current tuition is $6000/year and housing in $5000/year CAD Even the least expensive option ($34 755CAD) with with the max scholarships im eligible for ($19 599 CAD) it's still over $15 000 for the semester which is over $4000 more than what im paying currently for a full year.
On SAS, you have no day off like no weekends so you study 7 days a week unless you’re in port or have events so if you think of it, it’s even harder than regular schools

no semester at sea looks so scary. Mostly because the ocean is basically a monster. It doesn’t respect who you are, wether you’re a huge cruise ship, it can sink anything. It’s just something that freaks me out!
