@@heyitsmejackieee I was a ship kid and had work on the ship that my school gave me. We would have tutors that were college students or our parents would help us. We had I think 2 hours in the lido restaurant reserved for us to do work right before lunch was served. We are also allowed to sit in on college classes. It was so much fun. I'm going back on in spring 21.

there are no curfews! free to do what you want as long as you go to class! of course you don't have to go to class but you see your professors every day so it'd be super awkward not to go
They are in the middle of the sea its not like they can leave their home/the ship.

An added tip for the total cost from someone going on the Spring 2020 Voyage: If you are struggling with the overall cost, there are saver cabin options!! You can either be in a double or triple, you're on the 3rd deck, and the only real difference is it's a more bare cabin (no mosaic mermaid in the shower lol) and you'll hear the engine sounds a little bit more. I got put into a saver triple cabin after talking with financial aid, and it dropped my overall price to $23,000. It's very nice if you come from a lower-income household!

On the seasickness note-once you get off the ship you’re going to have major sea legs. Your body is so used to compensating for the motion of the boat once you’re on land you’re just going to be stumbling 😂 (speaking from experience lol)
I’m so upset that I didn’t hear about this earlier. I’m already a senior (😅😅😅) so I don’t have room in my schedule to study abroad.

I’ve been doing so much research on semester at sea because I really want to do it for a gap year. I want to go into Anthropology and it seems really fun to travel the world. The tuition is actually a lot cheaper than my current school bc I go to a private school in California.
Do all the students on board have friends? Im worried I wouldn’t make any

the majority of students go without knowing anyone, so everyone is usually in the same boat! (no pun intended)
I’ve made close friends on a cruise after one week. Something about the cruise just makes it super easy to make friends!

I saw in a previous video (or maybe it was someone's else) that laundry works pretty much like a hotel, they put the dirty laundry in a bag, and find their clean clothes the next day

u put the laundry in a bag they give you. they take it and u will prob get it the day after. and i belive it costs about $6

when ur at one of the destinations do u come back to the ship every night or do u get a hotel?

when do u think is the best time throughout all 4 years of college to join this program?

are u able to do it the second semester instead of first?
I'm going next semester and can answer some of these questions!!
1. Each port is different, they usually range from 4-6 days but there are usually 2 countries where you only go for just a day to refuel. The majority of ports are 6 days!
2. When you're in port you have the option to stay on the boat if you want so if you're staying in the port city you can go back to the ship if you don't want to stay in a hotel but most people leave the port city and go all throughout the country and stay elsewhere!
3. There aren't necessarily parties like crazy drinking parties (you're only allowed 2 glasses of wine at dinner)
4. Most people do it during their sophomore or junior year, but my roommate is doing it as a senior! (I'm a junior) It's just personal preference on when the timing is right for you
5. Yes, you can either do fall or spring! Emma's currently doing the fall voyage but I'm doing the spring!

its not really a US college cost thing and more of a cruise ship thing making up the cost this is about twice as expensive as normal college
The speed at which my parents told me no and laughed was remarkable when I asked about this in college.

@@41052 as far as getting in the program, it isn’t difficult. As long as you’re in good academics standing with your university, they will except you. I understand not being able to afford it, but majority of students on the ship or not paying the full cost. They are paying for it through scholarships from their home university, financial aid from FASFA, scholarships through semester at sea, their student job on the ship, and student loans. Yes it’s not cheap, but the majority of everyone on the ship is not just born with overwhelming wealth to be able to afford this out of pocket.... most are budgeting and paying it through scholarships and loans.

Sebastian Skii i know you said “nearly” but as a girl from colorado i just wanted to inform you that while a lot of people fit into that category, not everyone does. i live in a pretty rich county but that doesn’t mean that i live in a big ass house and have the nicest car. i live in a townhome because my parents don’t have enough money to get a house (we’ve tried twice) and i share a car w both of them. i have my own job so i can help pay for stuff and yes while i have the privilege to be able to live where i am it doesn’t mean that i’m hella rich and can throw money away just for the sake of it. i know a lot of people that can’t either (of course i do know people like you described, but that obviously isn’t everyone :)

Hey Emma, would love to hear more on your experience in Trinidad and Tobago! It's my home country and I never knew SAS would consider stopping off there. Oh and just a note, Tobago is pronounced Toe-bay-go.
I wish I could have had the opportunity to do that when I was in collage.I wasn't able to do any Study abroad opportunity. I wanted to do study abroad in Quebec with my roommate and best friend but because I couldn't pick up French in my French class that year my professor for French 2 told me it would be a better idea to go with family since if I would go there for Study abroad then I'll have to speak in French all the time. The Study Abroad program was for a month. Luckily my parents planned a trip there for three days so at least I was able to get there and I hung out with my roommate for a few hours.

Heyo! Interested in the program but highly concerned about what would happen if you get violently ill or something (stomach virus, food poisoning, flu etc.)
i saw in a tour of the ship that they have a dedicated hospital area on a lower deck. if you become so dangerously sick that not even the boats hospital can help you, im sure they would arrange to get you off the ship and to a real hospital.
