For those people that are wondering *"Why not just copy BFV's animations over to portal?"* The answer is pretty much that the main animator for the past Battlefield's (1,5,2042) works at DICE Stockholm, which only worked on All out warfare and Hazard zone for 2042, and BF Portal was basically being handled by different studio(Ripple Effect). Another reason why 2042's animation's aren't as great as 1 and V's is because the animator states that he was able to get ahold of and shoot WW1 and 2 weaponry but not modern firearms, just wanted to point that out Disclaimer: the animator has said that he does not want to say any more information as he is afraid he might misrepresent his work on the game, and has only said what is depicted above, so take what I said with a grain of salt.

I always liked bf5’s kar98k . I even prefer the animations when compared to mw2019’s iteration. Just something about the way the characters rack the bolt after each shot and the amazing reload sound and animations.

On the other hand BF2042 is in the future, everything's mostly clean, refined and simple yet complex, the sound designers for 2042 know this and as a result in the WW2 weapons in 2042 sound... new, clean and up to date, all most like a modern day firearm. I believe some soldiers back in the World War II might have actually reloaded their guns after emptying their magazine partially for the purpose of anticipating unexpected enemy's presence during a CQB as well. You don't want your magazine to suddenly run out of ammo in such situations. It's just common sense regardless if tactical reloads were not yet official back then.

I think Portal should be it's own thing. Like how Warzone is seperate to the mainline Call of Duties but still related for example. Making Portal independent from 2042 I think would do it some good.

I hate to see this so much. One of the things i loved the most of Battlefield was how organic the gunplay felt, i started in bf4 btw. And in bf1 that organic, realistic feel felt perfect. In bfv i could already tell it was worse. Guns were more stiff, more arcady. And now to see bfv beating the shit out of bf2042 when it comes to that feeling breaks my heart. The entire atmospheric and immersive feeling that was SO good in bf1 was destroyed and replaced for a more arcady-esporty-callofduty type. And it fucking sucks because i loved that feeling in bf1 but ww1/ww2 isn't really my preferred setting, and i really wanted it in a modern one.

I’ve actually had the opportunity to fire a full auto Thompson (I’m blessed) and the thing that always drives me crazy about video game reloads for the weapon is that they couldn’t work! There is a release on the side of the gun that you have to push up, then put the mag in, then let it go to lock. So if you just throw it in from the bottom it will never lock in cuz the Thompson doesn’t have a magwell. Coincidentally that way of reloading is a huge pain, but that’s how it was! Just watch it again and notice that the guy does nothing to release the mag or lock it in; it would just fall to the ground if you did it this way.
I’ve also fired an M1 Garand, and it will slide back into battery as soon as the clip hits the bottom of the gun. That’s where “Garand thumb” comes from; if you don’t get out of there fast enough then will pinch you super hard. The only time you have put the slide forward manually is if you want to close the gun when it’s empty
