- Babes...NOAH KAHAN WRECKED ME! Today we are reacting to Noah Kahan's album "Stick Season." I was not prepared to listen to this! Mr. Kahan made me feel all the emotions and I have still not recovered. Between the beautiful vocals, soothing folk production, and heart-wrenching lyrics...NOAH KAHAN HAS ME FLOORED. Vermonter here: Stick Season is definitely when the pretty leaves fall, and the trees are just sticks (November mostly). No snow, no sun, no fun, November. It's depressing until Christmas and the snow.
And don't worry, stick season is just that: a season of the year. For every stick season there's a mud season where the snow starts to thaw and hibernation comes to an end. Seasonal Affective Disorder is temporary.
I grew up in Louisiana so I had a hard time with this one🤣🤣I’ve never experienced living somewhere that you can see the physical seasonal changes. Hoping to experience that soon🙏🏼 it definitely seems like it can affect people’s mood though!
@@toolertotmusicbox Besides medication, doctors sometimes prescribe UV lamps to fight seasonal depression. Besides the short days of stick season, Vermont is a very cloudy place.
@@toolertotmusicbox Cheat code: I moved to the south. I left my small town. I absolutely get his feeling here, but from the perspective of someone who got up the motivation to leave. Definitely check out the deluxe songs, especially "You're gonna go far." That one hits hard for those who left.

So glad you reacted to this! This album is phenomenal and the deluxe is great too! My favs are Dial Drunk, You're Gonna Go Far (both from Deluxe) and Homesick. 'Stick Season' refers to the period in time between the fall and winter, where the snow has not yet come but all the pretty fall colors and life has left, and Noah sings about how depressing this period of time can feel living in the North (and describes how he falls back into his vices and continues to be haunted by old ghosts during this period of time). Truly a great concept album. Edit: Orange Juice also mentions a DUI accident where he and his ex-lover possibly killed somebody, and describes how it changed her and caused her to spiral. He goes on to try to convince her she 'didn't put those bones in the ground,' as some sort of forgiveness, but we can see from her words that he's kind of toxic for her, and she needs to escape and become a new person for her growth (i.e. her 'new perspective' that Noah kind of angrily/bitterly talks about in New Perspective, comparing who she's become to the same unchanging alcoholic he describes himself as in Northern Attitude and Stick Season). It's clearly Noah kind of resents that, i.e. how she is haunting him (Halloween) and has taken 'all his love,' which although sweet, can be interpreted as taking all of his good (what does that leave him with?). The View Between Villages is him finally leaving (1 minute from home but I feel so far away, wheel in reverse, etc) and feeling emotions again now that 'Stick Season' is ending and the winter is finally coming ('as the last of their bugs leave their homes again'). These are my interpretations, of course.
Love all your interpretations! I need to listen to the deluxe tracks too. I totally missed a car accident in orange juice, but the "bones in the ground" lines make a lot more sense now! I can definitely see a cold winter being a harsh time to cope with in the North. Loved the album, but I was a wreck!🤣😭❤️
Regarding Homesick, as I interpret it (someone who grew up in a tiny town in the Midwest), it’s about the complex feelings of leaving home, like yes, you’re unhappy in this town, but it’s all you’ve ever known. So if you leave, you’re homesick, if you stay, you’re home, sick
yes that's exactly what I feel but put into better wording🤣🤣growing up in small town and going to the city always leaves you homesick one way or the other!
glad you reacted to this masterpiece of an album!!! my top 3 are probably: northern attitude, orange juice and growing sideways (but who am i kidding, I love every single one of them). i hope you also check out the songs from the deluxe version, they're amazing.
i also want to mention that noah doesn't always write from his own perspective, some of the songs talk about things that he didn't go trough personally but they always contain his feelings and parts of his own experiances. I would recommend watching his zach sang interview to know more about him and his writing style. (also i don't know if you saw it but noah and conan were confessing their love to each other trough insta stories 2 days ago and i defenitelly did not expect them to know each other even though it makes perfect sense - they're two very sad boys).

I always go into instant story mode when I do the reactions🤣 I'll like to make it all connect to the artist, but totally get sometimes they write from other's perspectives😌 I love watching the Zach Sang interviews🥰 Love that Noah and Conan know each other! Definitely can see them collaborating and making a masterpiece of a song😍
As someone who grew up in connecticut, its the cold, and the short days, that make us callis, and we all grew up in small towns, so many people never ever leave thier home town. Its just a mentality you live with, ive been living in florida for 3 years now, and im homesick even though i feel better than ever not being in new england.
Makes sense! I definitely get living in the small town and there not being a lot to do. Add the cold weather like that in the south, and I would never get out the house😭

Being a southern girl, that’s the first thing I thought of🤣I’m glad the people who live up in the north let me know about the meaning behind the trees loosing all the leaves and looking like stick aka “stick season”. But yea sticks are bland and lose some of the life (the leaves) so I do see the double meaning in it! 😌
Hi! Regarding the whole "he wants to leave but doesn't", due to the context of the album I have always interpreted it as someone going back to the town he grew up in after moving out but gets traped in it during covid.
This forces them to confront a lot of issues that caused them to leave in the first place. The difference is they're stuck there now until quarantine lifts (aka end of the album)

In all my love , the my folks still talk but they speak in these two words sentences, everytime he performs this he always yells out my parents are divorced! In between that line and the next one, so that’s sort of the point you were making there is no passion there, no attempt at relationship they’ve already given up and moved on, they’re cordial with each other but it’s very brief to the point and that’s it.
Oh I didn’t even know they were divorced! I felt in that song just a couple staying together but no longer having the spark or passion. Just not truly being happy and not putting in lots of effort for the relationship. I feel like it’s a common struggle for lots of couples, but I’m glad they moved on and searched for other happiness✨❤️
@@toolertotmusicbox yeah I got you we’re picking up on the lack of passion but you thought it was dry in a current relationship, but what he was saying was that it ended, they were done and moved on. An amazing story teller loved your story reaction
