I will NEVER forget how listening to "Your Needs, My Needs" BROKE ME in the first time. OMG it was a cathartic experience. It changed my brain chemistry. It's been like this since then
Paul Revere was an American Revolutionary at the start of the American Revolutionary War who was one of the people tasked with notifying the Minute men that the British were coming after the American's threw the British out of Boston and the Continental Congress anticipated British retribution. He famously rode through the night shouting "the British are coming" (though I've read that it was actually "the Redcoats are coming") to warn of the British troops march towards Concord. There is a lot of nuance and the actual story is more complex and full than that, but it is a very popular American mythos taught in elementary school here in the States. As per your comment about him perhaps being a cowboy.
My hometown had a reenactment every year, Paul Revere would ride through town on his horse Brown Beauty and notify the people in this old house, wild that not everyone is aware of something so central to my childhood lol. Ah regional priorities
You're Gonna Go Far has always struck me as a letter from the people that stayed in your hometown when you left. They love you and want you to do well in life, but are still sad to see you go. As a younger sibling, it hit me really hard thinking about when my older sister moved out of state and I was still at home with our parents. 😭
I feel you my older sister left and moved far away for college and I miss her so much now that I’m alone at home with our parents, it hurts every time she has to go back when she visits
The collab with Brandi on You're Gonna Go Far genuinely feels like, at least to me, like it's your mom and your dad seeing you off as you go to college and telling you that it's okay to leave because everyone will still be here and you'll still have a home, you'll still have a bed to sleep in at their house and a seat at their table to eat. Noah sounds like a dad a little hesitant to let go while Brandi sounds so enthusiastic about what opportunities their child will find.
I've been a Noah Kahan stan for a while now, I've watched almost every review of his album even though I listen to it literally thousands of times daily, because when I can see someone else feel what I feel makes me feel valid for my tears. I will say with out a doubt this review is my favorite. You felt exactly what I felt. Cried where I cried. Smiled where I smiled. Amazing reaction. 💛
As a 28yo only child who moved over 3,000 miles away from my parents and friends, Your Gonna Go Far made absolutely sob like a baby 😭 perfect reaction video I’ve been looking forward to this!
Noah Kahans lyrics are literally therapeutic. I think of how he must have been in his Vermont bedroom writing these thinking they were lame having no clue how much his music would touch people. I love it. I love seeing an artist emerge Im dying to see him live. I listen to his live concerts in my car over his album he is so much better live I feel.
Omg! I just saw him live on Sunday in Amsterdam! He was sick and felt super bad because he felt that he could not perform 100% but he was amazing and so was the crowd! Needless to say that I cried my way through half of the show and I sobbed like a baby during You’re gonna go far… I thought people around me would consider me a freak but everybody was so emotional, it was such an experience! I am definitely seeing him again!
my top 5 songs are 1. forever 2. northern attitude ft Hozier 3. orange juice 4. all my love 5. the view between villages extended version its so difficult to even pick a top 5 because this album is so solid!!
1. Paul Revere: I’m from a super small town and I’ve moved. I do wrestle with my love and hate with that town. And Vail Resorts has bought all the local mountains where I’m at now. Ruined them all. I cling to my old town and hate all the changes to it because now it’s almost tarnished. 2. Homesick: feeling so big about leaving that town and hating everyone who’s still there all at once. 3. You needs, my needs: the whole song and the sound is beautiful. Noah is genius. 4. Orange juice: a friend and I fought and practically shouted how each other changed due to the consequences of growing up and becoming adults. 5. The view between villages extended version, I loved the first version and couldn’t believe the extended version could beat the first one and when it did. Hahaha I’m unwell 😂 So excited for the podcast! I will be listening!
The part that gets me in Paul Revere is when noah says "We'll drink to new years, then they'll leave me to clean up" knowing that his birthday is new years day. It just breaks my heart into a million pieces.
I've watched this video of yours multiple times because I just love it that much and love this album so much. It's really funny to me that I only realized today that at 1:04:10 you said "autistic thought" instead of, I'm guessing, "authentic" and it made this video that much better (as a neurodivergent person) ahahah! 💖💖😂
Nooooo "stay hydrated"💀💀😂 Advice we really all need for Noah Kahan listening sessions lmao. Absolutely loved this (as expected). Excited to see him this summer at Madison Square Garden🙌 Thanks so much for gifting this review. All the best.
His song You're Gonna Go Far and his song Main from his Cape Elizabeth album have similar story telling lyrics and, I absolutely love it. Maybe you can review his Cape Elizabeth album it's only five songs, but they are also beautifully written. 🤍
It's really nice to see that I'm not the only one who cries my way through albums and I really appreciate your vulnerability in fully showing such real reactions.
I really loved your perspective through this video and the original album. One thing to add: Noah actually moved out of his hometown a few years before covid. He went home for lockdown and wrote the album while reliving his feelings from when he was younger, before he moved away.
He just needs to remix or re-record the entire album with Hozier! I live that he gives is permission to only listen to the Hozier version, he's not offended or pissed off by it, he fully acknowledges that this version is everything. I just love how much he fangirls out over working with him, it just makes my heart so happy! 💜
Also, how did I exist in this world for 40 years without this album!? It seems inconceivable now, it's just everything I ever needed, literally healing parts of me, inspiring me to dive into the darker parts of the stuff I've buried.
Oh my goodness, a top 5 for an album like this is insanely hard! Every time I listen I love the songs more and pick up new things about them. I think the ones that hit the hardest again and again are: 1. Your Needs, My Needs 2. Northern Attitude (feat. Hozier ofc
Hello!! I watched both of your Noah Kahan reaction videos recently and really really enjoyed them! So insightful to see your like thoughts and (obviously) reactions to his music. Just wanted to pop back and say that if you ever fancied doing another Noah Kahan react, please please PLEASE give his EP Cape Elizabeth a listen, it's so so gorgeous and a reminder that, even though the Stick Season run is unbelievable, he is so much more than Stick Season!! Lots of love !!!!
My favorite reactor and my favorite album, what a GIFT!! I clicked so fast 🎶 Top 5: 1. Your Needs, My Needs 2. Growing Sideways 3. Call Your Mom 4. Come Over 5. All My Love
This was one of the best musical journeys I’ve ever gone on with a reaction/review channel. I also felt that way about your Hozier journey (who I’ll be FINALLY seeing live in August!). Thank you for all your hard work but also for your passion and willingness to be vulnerable. It adds so much to your videos. ❤❤❤ Also, big thanks to your boyfriend for convincing you to react to this gorgeous project! 🥰
I’ve been waiting for this one😃. Love this album and Noah. He’s been on repeat ever since I discovered him. GREAT reaction luscent, keep putting out great content.
Your needs, my needs is such a ride! And live is a whole new level. What a beautiful video. You did an excellent job..Noah has said that YNMN and YGGF start as the same story, different ending. Listen with that in mind and they are soooo powerful.
The way I listen to the album is the original record is his past ending with TVBV which is him leaving for the first time, the deluxe is the present with him living somewhere else and then ending with TVBV extended which is him driving back to the town and then Forever is the future
Top 5: 1. View Between Villages (Extended Version) (I literally cried along with you watching this video! 😅💕) 2. Stick Season 3. You’re Gonna Go Far 4. All My Love 5. Northern Attitude (with Hozier) That was nearly impossible… so many great tracks. Honorable mentions: Call Your Mom (with Lizzy McAlpine), She Calls Me Back
Big black Car by Gregory Alan Isokov is one of my fav songs by him! Album-wise, This Empty Northern Hemisphere is really good too! Loved this reaction!!
That was an excellent reaction Luscent, the best I've seen.😁 Having heard Noah talk about a lot of the songs your interpretation was quite good, if not spot on. I've been a fan of both the music and the awesome human known as Noah for the last 3-4 yrs. I heard Anyway during Covid and that started this beautiful journey. On this album it's quite hard to split some songs as they're all so damn good. My favs are Orange Juice,The View Between Villages( both versions) Call Your Mom, Forever, Everywhere Everything, She Calls Me Back...i could go on and on. As far as the duets i like some more than others but all are pretty good. Having said that I'd still take the original on all of them.✌️
Paul Revere is famous for riding through Massachusetts and telling everyone “the British are coming!” at the start of the American revolution. I’m American but History isn’t my subject so I don’t have much info besides that haha. That is in my top 2 or 3 of the bonus tracks honestly!
gregory alan isakov is south african/american, and has such a sweet buttery voice, you should react to his music, he can be a good tear jerker, he is one of my favourite artists, he does some covers too, such as the lumineers Salt and the Sea, and honest to God, the first time i ever heard paul revere i remember saying to my friend who also loves isakov, that this is like the perfect cover for gregory to do, and then this came out and i literally cried!
Your Gonna Go Far feat. Brandi Carlisle Your Needs, My Needs The View Between Villages Extended Paul Revere feat. Gregory Alan Isakov Orange Juice These are my top five right now from this album, but I feel like it changes frequently because I love all of Noah's songs
i find your takes and your insight so so fascinating! id say my top 5 of the whole record are: 1. come over 2. new perspective 3. strawberry wine 4. growing sideways 5. you're gonna go far
I’m so glad you finally listened to call your mom with lizzy 😭 that song wrecks me, I know what it’s like to be so worried about someone who’s struggling and you’re just desperate to keep them from unaliving themselves 💔 and I just love lizzy sm, you need to react to her music!!
As for the duets, I agree with everything you said. Pretty much spot on. The loss of the original second verse in dial drunk hurts the story (eg "from charming to alarming in seconds" and it's connection to the turn in the bridge). But i will say that with subsequent listens, i love the final chorus with Post Malone. They do add some harmonies in there that add a lot of depth. But yeah, the second chorus with them together is kind of flat.
If you haven't already, you should definitely check out some more Sam Fender, honestly either album would be fantastic but probably seventeen going under, it's such a brilliant rock album
Top 5 is tough. I've listened to all his older stuff too (I cant claim to be an OG fan, but after hearing stick season i took a deep dive.) I think id say: 1) Orange Juice 2) Call Your Mom 3) Maine 4) Cynic 5) Growing Sideways 6) Paul Revere (Honorable Memtion to Carlos's Song, which might be hisvsaddest song, believe it or not.)
Loved the reaction, the extended version of the view between villages was my favorite out of the deluxe. I would recommend listening to Luke Hemmings' album When Facing The Things We Turn Away From in terms of introspective songwriting
My Top 5: Stick Season Growing Sideways The View Between Villages Call Your Mom Northern Attitude feat. Hozier Out of 30 song total this was soooo hard lol
I can’t narrow down my favourites to a top 5, I’ve tried and the best I can do is a top 10 and even that was a really tough choice. My top 10: Homesick with Sam Fender New Perspective Orange Juice You’re Gonna Go Far No Complaints Call Your Mom with Lizzie Alpine Dial Drunk Growing Sideways Your Needs, My Needs Paul Revere with Gregory Alan Isakov
Gregory is awesome!! You should check his stuff out. Especially the cover of Trapeze Swinger (originally by Iron&Wine) That song is everything you’d ever want in your life. I promise.
Please react to Gregory Alan Isakov, he is phenomenal. The album Empty Northern Atmosphere is amazing and Brandi Carlile does background vocals on a few songs. You won’t be disappointed
Capl Your Mom is - in my interpretation - a moment in timebwhere he isbtrying to council a suicidal friend and he us "driving all night" to get to the person and calling theor mom because shes closer. Then, the "waoting room no place to stand" is him at the hospital after the suicid attempt. "If you couod see yoursekf pike this, you'd have never tried it." That song is devastating.
Sounds like you're already a little familiar but if you're interested, please have a listen to Sam Fender! His latest album (and single) Seventeen Going Under is particularly good :D
I am an independent artist from South Carolina. I need help with my music in the form of a musician, engineer, producer, and promoter. Will you please help me out?
This is exactly the sort of video I was hoping someone would do ever since the duets started dropping and forever released.
I will NEVER forget how listening to "Your Needs, My Needs" BROKE ME in the first time. OMG it was a cathartic experience. It changed my brain chemistry. It's been like this since then
it really comes out of nowhere like he doesnt go into that vocal register on any other place its mad!
i'm glad i'm not the only one who openly sobbed listening to You're Gonna Go Far LOL
Fr! Ahh it's the hardest i have cried in a sec, it was much needed
That song instantly puts me in tears lol
omg its just so beautiful
I just saw him live and cried my eyes out during this song!
I think it’s required!❤
"The British are coming, the British are coming " that's Paul Revere 😂
Oh! 😂😂
Nah Paul Revere is a cowboy! 😂
Who needs therapy when you can just listen to Noah Kahan and cry along with strangers on the internet over our shared emotional breakdowns
Too right hahaha
Yes!!! 😂🎉😢❤
Amen. Haha

As an older sister who moved away for uni, I relate to it too and it hits me hard every time as I imagine my sister singing it back to me.

I really loved your perspective through this video and the original album. One thing to add:
Noah actually moved out of his hometown a few years before covid.
He went home for lockdown and wrote the album while reliving his feelings from when he was younger, before he moved away.
Truly transformative and timeless album. I don't think I'll ever forget the waves of emotions I went through and still experience when I listen to it.

oh bless you! I had a similar moment on the train listening to VBV again hahahah
I love how in "Dial Drunk", he says "i Dial drunk, i Die A drunk, i Die For you." Such amazing play on words.
The She Calls Me Back duet is my favorite of the duets. I really liked what Kacey added to the song with her verse.

Quick plug that you should definitely check out Sam Fender. His lyricism is unmatched
Top 5 is tough. I've listened to all his older stuff too (I cant claim to be an OG fan, but after hearing stick season i took a deep dive.)
I think id say:

Gregory is awesome!! You should check his stuff out. Especially the cover of Trapeze Swinger (originally by Iron&Wine) That song is everything you’d ever want in your life. I promise.

Please react to Gregory Alan Isakov, he is phenomenal. The album Empty Northern Atmosphere is amazing and Brandi Carlile does background vocals on a few songs. You won’t be disappointed

You should react to Sam Fender
Capl Your Mom is - in my interpretation - a moment in timebwhere he isbtrying to council a suicidal friend and he us "driving all night" to get to the person and calling theor mom because shes closer. Then, the "waoting room no place to stand" is him at the hospital after the suicid attempt. "If you couod see yoursekf pike this, you'd have never tried it."
That song is devastating.
Oops. I just had to keep watching. You got to the same conclusion.
