I feel obligated to say you need to check out the extended version (Stick Season (We’ll all be here forever)). I absolutely love this album, and Noah is such a kind person from everything I’ve seen. I grew up a few hours from Vermont and in a pretty similar area to what Vermont is like so this hits home for me. He just teased a version of Homesick with a feature artist, and I’m pretty sure the feature is his brother but not confirmed yet. Also, the target lyric in New Perspective has sort of hidden meaning, because Vermont was the last state to get a target and still only has like one, so it’s a pretty big change.
@@Luscent yeah, I actually really like the version. The features are nice, some of them have alternate lyrics others have the same lyrics as the original version. Looking forward to seeing what you think about them
I am really excited and impressed that you picked up on the undertones of Orange Juice. Noah said that it is supposed to be a bit of a “gaslight” song cause it sounds so warm and inviting but the speaker doesn’t actually make any effort towards the person they are speaking to. They invited the person to a party with alcohol after they reminded the speaker they are trying to stay sober
If you loved this, you’re going to be obsessed with the deluxe version with the six extra song! Also his EP, Cape Elizabeth, contains some of his most powerful lyrics. of
the phrase stick season means the time when all the leaves have fallen off the trees but the snow hasn't fallen yet when the world is kind of barren and gray. It' when the seasons are transitioning but they haven't quite settled somewhere yet. This was on of my top favorite albums of last year and i definitely recommend listening to the deluxe version of this album as well!
Another aspect of “stick season” in Vermont (late October through mid to late November) is the cloudy, damp, gray weather. That time is the most cloudy and the days are getting shorter and shorter. Many folks develop their seasonal depressive disorder around this time. Yes, I’m from Vermont.
english novembers are like this too. barren wastelands of towering, grey trees against a backdrop of equally grey and dreary sky. sometimes it seems like the sun will never rise.
Just so you know, it's now illegal to listen to the Northern Attitude without Hozier, as proclaimed by Noah himself! 😂 They will come to your house and scare your dogs.
I love this album because through both the overall storyline he tells, and the production of the music, it loops back on itself so well. When The View Between Villages ends, all I want to hear next is Northern Attitude. He does turn around at the end of The View Between Villages and ends up back in his driveway, and then its so easy to place the character right back at the beginning of Northern Attitude. It's such a well composed album, so easily replayable. Also, you HAVE to listen to the extended album now. Those songs... my goodness, they are on another level.
In The View Between Villages when he says "the car's in reverse, I'm gripping the wheel, I'm back between villages, and everything's Still" he is going back to his hometown, so he goes back to the track before this one "Still" as well as back to being between villages, between stages of his life
I actually discovered Noah Kahn when before the Hozier concert I was attending, in the venue, they played stick season. That concert also got me into Madison Cunningham (she was the opener) AND boygenius (they played one of their songs before the concert) so, all in all, an incredible music day haha
Loved your reaction to this album! View between villages feels so triumphant to me. I cry literally every time I hear it! The way he captures that love/hate feeling for your hometown is uncanny.
Love this album so much, would love to see your reaction to the deluxe songs as well!! Strawberry wine has turned into an absolute favourite for me, orange juice gets me every time, and damn if growing sideways doesn't describe me, living with chronic depression and just trying to survive while watching others move forward. He has such a beautiful way of turning feelings into words and turning them into metaphors that help you really grasp it
I adored your reaction! You really pick up on so many different elements I didn’t get until further listens. I really recommend (and selfishly would just love to see) doing a reaction to the extended edition. It has some of the best songs on the album. All my love
LETS GOOOOO!!! This was so awesome. Absolutely need the extended edition version of this album reviewed! So many things that I didn't even pick up (and that is as a card carrying top 2.5% Spotify Noah Kahan listener)😂 He does such an incredible job capturing those incredibly small but powerful and ubiquitous moments. Loneliness, mental health issues, etc. are such important topics and he takes you through that all too relatable experience. Oh and he literally is singer/songwriter which makes this even more incredible. All the best✌🏼
Hi Dan! I love this video and your reaction to Noah's music :) I just wanted to say at 19:20, where you said that he was getting 'high' on his antidepressants, is incorrect. While the US does have a terrible opioid crisis, people with mood disorders are prescribed SSRIs and SNRIs, which take 4-6 weeks to feel the affects of. Painkillers are not given to treat depression (I'd probably be happier if they were lmao).
19:18 Your take on the line “I was taking the wrong meds, it feels good to bed sad” is so interesting! For me, I definitely took it more as he was taking antidepressants that weren’t working, but he wasn’t eager to switch to another, because when you’ve dealt with depression for such a long period of time (Noah has spoken about being diagnosed with depression and on medication for it from a very young age), you tend to forget what it’s like to not be depressed, and you find a sort of comfort in the familiarity of that sadness. Always really cool hearing a different perspective though, love your thoughts and insights about his lyricism!
You NEED to listen to the Extended Version!! Call Your Mom is my favorite song of his and makes me cry every single time I listen to it. Glad you loved it!
I find the vague resentment in Orange Juice very relatable. I've had to deal with people "Fixing" themselves through various means, sometimes Religion, sometimes other things, and in my experience it's often just trading one bad habit for another. The feeling is, At least for me, that I knew how to handle the old version, this new version isn't really Better, it's just an interesting new flavor of unhealthy and nuts. This might not be what the song intended, but that's what I got out of it.
I’m subscribing because you’re the first person who I’ve seen feel “Still” and really understand what an amazing song it is. I spent a lot of last year trying to find a reason to leave a job that was destroying my mental health just so I could finally move out of my parents house and leave town the way I’d dreamed of for years. Spent a chunk of time crying in the car to that song. It captures such a real emotional state.
your orange juice interpretation is super interesting!! i’ve always thought of the “orange juice bought for the children” line as the speaker trying to comfort the subject, saying like “hey there’s orange juice by the way if you want, we didnt get it for you dont worry”. your comment made me see a whole nother perspective :)
Besides the deluxe songs, check out the collabs with Hozier(!), Post Malone, Gracie Abram and Lizzie McAlpine!! Love those too. This is such a beautiful album. Paul Revere, Orange Juice and Call Your Mom are my top 3 songs. I want the good cry.
this was my top album of the year! in the beginning of 2023 i had a long commute to work and i would listen to the album nearly every day as i drove. it’s perfect music to drive in your car to. i really hope you listen to the deluxe tracks on the channel! there are some gems
✨Forgot to say in the video✨ make sure to leave your top 5 songs in the comments!! ❤ Also you can watch the full unedited version and support me over on Patreon here! www.patreon.com/luscent 🥰
YESSSS I'm so happy you reacted to this! It's one of my fav albums of all time! Come Over is my favorite and I'm getting a tattoo for it in a couple days! Can't wait for him to drop more music and can't wait for you to make more vids, loved your reaction!!
Wanted to give my take on Growing Sideways cause you seeing him as optimistic was so surprising! I see where you got that thought, but to me to grow sideways is to not be moving forward. Hes in therapy but healing is hard and he's struggling and when taken in context with the rest of the album, its another example of the feeling of everyone you know being so far ahead and you feeling stuck where you're at. Any movement you do make isnt forward progress, its a step sideways. He's actually telling us his reasoning for growing sideways when he says, "I'd rather die numb than feel it all." The emotional aspect of growing forward is too hard, so hes going sideways for now, because there are worse ways to stay alive 🫠
Noah is our local home hero in Vermont. It's so great to see more people finding him and supporting. Definitely check out some of his older stuff! He's just as good.
I loved this reaction!! Please react to the deluxe version 'Stick Season (We'll All Be Here Forever)' as well, I'm sure you're gonna love it!!! The lyrics on there are insane and there's a whole other side of his songwriting and production we get to discover. I'd love to see your reaction to that as well!
I looked the same way after hearing Growing Sideways. I cannot wait to see what you think of some of the songs on the extended version. Call Your Mom... just be prepared.
Saw him live in October and immediately after bought tickets to see him in a bigger venue in February. He was great! I always pair Northern Attitude with To Someone From a Warm Climate.
Now that you’ve heard Stick Season, you NEED to hear We’ll All be Here Forever!! It’s kind of an add-on to this album, but literally every song is incredible. I think I actually prefer every song on there to my favourites from Stick Season… which says a lot, all of these songs are fantastic
I love the way Noah writes some of his lyrics in a "stream of consciousness" type of way and the song Still is one of them where it really shows. I hope you review the extended version of his album and his previous albums as well, like Cape Elizabeth. ❤❤❤
I don't know why i torture myself by constantly watching reactions to this album. I always end up crying with the listeners lol I'm impressed Orange Juice didn't make you cry. That one hit me hard the first time I heard it
It's too funny having listened to this and your deluxe video and hear several mentions to this being a vibe in your 30s - knowing I'm in my mid 30s so maybe I would feel that way, but Noah just turned 27 lol -- so from one millennial to another 🍻
I don't know if you ever take requests but you seem very willing to give new genres a try, so if you ever feel like dipping your toes into Metal, I can't recommend Bad Omens - The Death of Piece of Mind (2022) and Bring Me the Horizon - Post Human: Survival Horror (2020) enough. Both are fantastic albums worthy of an entire reaction.

its with Sam Fender apparently!! gonna do the bonus tracks and maybe the duets too if i have the time!
@@Luscent Yaaay! I'm looking forward to you listening to the bonus tracks. "Your Needs, My needs" especially
@@Luscent yeah, I actually really like the version. The features are nice, some of them have alternate lyrics others have the same lyrics as the original version. Looking forward to seeing what you think about them
@@Luscent Cannot wait to see your reactions to the extended. It's ... amazing.
@@Luscent Lol and now he came out with another extended version earlier this month, you should give Stick Season (Forever) a listen
