- Here's a short clip of the rig as it prepares to negotiate a very tight right hand turn in Two Hills. All of the wheels on the Scheurle trailer units are steerable. This coker weighed in at 456,000 kg (trailers and trucks extra) Each of the trailer units has 160 wheels. (320 wheels on 20 axles in total)
These coker ovens weigh more than 500 tons, 10 meters in diameter, 80 meters long, are are on their way from Edmonton to the oilsands plants at Fort McMurray. They have as many as 7 tractors pulling and pushing, the Scheurle trailer units have 160 wheels each. Travel speed is from 10-30 kmh. Manufactured by Cessco Inc. and also Dacro Industries Ltd. The biggest piece hauled so far was 1,700,000 pounds or about 850 tonnes. It was the heaviest road load ever transported in North America. So far, they've manufactured and moved at least 8 units like this. The move takes about a week for the 550km journey from Edmonton to Fort McMurray. More are being built as more of the oilsands are being exploited. Most of the big loads are moved in winter when the roads are frozen solid. The bridge over the North Saskatchewan River at Duvernay had to be reinforced. Two companies handle the hauling, Mammoet Transportation Inc. and Premay Equipment Ltd. in Edmonton
After the vessels are assembled, they are put into a gigantic heat-treating oven where they are baked to take out stresses.

Here's a link to Sam Berliner III heavy hauling pages showint the 880 ton Schnable railcar: CBEX 800
home.att.net/~B...
it takes like 2 or 3 rigs to pull loads like this. absolutely crazy.
Tag hauling is THE apex of Truckin ability, not for the timid sorts.... I personelly will stick with my B-double work..... way less stress.. nice vid :)
I saw one of the coker drums being hauled up to Ft. Mac. and I counted 350 tires on the trailers. Also, there was 1 truck pulling and 2 pushing. When they got to the hills nearer Ft. Mac, there were 2 trucks pulling and 3 or 4 pushing.
Yes, they used a huge Schnable railcar system to move the big vessel to the Husky upgrader in Lloydminster, Alberta. it weighed about 800 tons. There are photos on S. Berliner III"s heavy hauling pages. It has 36 axels.
Hey, Skip...they're almost finished building another vessel at Dacro...I'll be there for the big haul!
A Schlnuber trailer. The load is pinched at the ends to be held in place. A tension beam connects the front and half of the trailer ends. They make rail cars like that for even heavyer loads. The real load limit is dictated primarily by ground pressure and gradient.
that's like watching the beginning of Star Wars.
it just keeps coming and getting bigger
now thats what I call a load, reminds me of the thunderbirds, all we needed was their music
Oh god, man, I feel sooo bad for the guys who drive up to Fort Mac, but shit, they must be some of the most skilled drivers the world over.
@landlightning
it was 2.1 million lbs if I'm not mistaken...just over 1000 ton. I heard it was the largest, heaviest load ever hauled on Canadian public roads. They hauled it over 500km
@onebadsavage26 That's a big load, alright! For the coker I saw them hauling, that 500+ km trip took 9 days, if I remember correctly. No traffic could drive in either direction on the highway while it was in transit, because it took up the entire road. They would park it at roadside turnouts and move it only on days when traffic was light, thereby avoiding huge traffic jams because on shift-change days at the mines traffic is ridiculously heavy between the Fort and Edmonton..
man i could relocate a whole trailer park at once with that equipment
Man, you think it's going to end and then it just keeps getting bigger. :P
swag
Nice load!
driver "whatta ya mean dis aint the right place!"
Shop Owner "this here address is on the other side of town....." lol
That's one hell of a load
At first i was like, wtf that is nothing! and at the end when i saw that big piece i was like HOOLYYY SHHITTT!!!!!!
It weighs about 456,324 kg or about 500 tons (just for the vessel) Total rolling weight including 4 tractors and the two 160 wheel Scheurle trailer units would add another 200 tons or so. Overall height is about 38 feet.
@onebadsavage26 I used to live in Edmonton, and I logged up at CNRL one year, plus I've done other logging in the area, so I travelled through the Fort every so often, but never lived there. I checked one out up close as well, but I only had my crappy cell phone camera which later went kaput and took the pics with it, so I have nothing but my memory now. That was when I calculated that it had 350 wheels/tires on the trailers. That's about 30,000 pounds worth of tires alone!
@xtraforte Its for turning those suckers, hard as hell the space allows a better turning radius, and the amount of axles have been engineered to handle the loads, also this is in CANADA not the states.
Think of it as a big distiller tank for separating the thick oil bitumen from the tarsands.
i saw this right by my hometown of ponoka, one of the trucks got too close too the edge of the road on a very sharp turn, and flipped
It's commonly referred to as a "Road Train". Ones of this size almost always have a police escort.
HI there, I've seen the LRV hauler (very longest trailer about 125 feet) to carry light rail vehicles on the trucks with state police escorts for delivery to Metro Transit's LRV garage.
Seriously, I thought a crane was too huge to be on roadways. This thing is just insane!!!!
uhhh....hey Billy bring me another oil tanker! She's runnin' dry! geez that's a big load
There are 3 big motors in these trucks
575 hp Detroit
signature 600 hp cummins
and the 650 cat that is no longer available they could not meet emitions regulations.
wicked,thats something like outa Thunderbirds
Oh no apologies needed, i had seen many people saying from the states so thats why i capatilized Canada so some might catch it and read that quickly i meant nothing of it towards you. As well im not sure how this spmt would work, but i hadnt really thought of that. Thank you for the enlightenment though ill need to look into that.
thats gotta be like over 297+ tons of moving steel on that monster O_O
No. It was fabricated in Edmonton, AB and transported north to Fort McMurray.
@landlightning, I take it you live up here too(fort mac)? They had this parked at the wide spot and I got to go look at it close up. The video doesnt do it justice... it's huge!! I think it went to Voyager...where it now sits in mothballs.
Yep, it's a fairly big load ;o))
It's a big vessel use in one of the Syncrude upgraders in FT. Mac. 10 meters in diameter, 80 meters long. There's another one going to be moved next month.
lol at the sign saying "maximum 50"
@TheGrultimate They cut it very wide. highways are the preference for this.
Nice
It's like the beginning of Star Wars.
That a huge LOAD...lol
Love to meet him and get some videos of his loads on here
looks like a job for the thunderbirds
They put lots of air in them! ;o))
hi, the movies is excellent, thanks ★★★★★
I wonder what sort of crane would have loaded that thing
12 axels just on the load itself! Two pullers and two pushers??
@bigcrunch0 Not the USA, check out a map and you'll see Fort Mac is in Alberta, Canada, they were heading through Edmonton.
i saw almost same size of truck uhauling same kind of stuff when i was going to california from texas i had almost 60 tires and its was huge and the truck was pulling damm had a power and they were doing 60 to 65 mph on highway 40
@eosrk most scale houses say 'Fuck you, you're not getting that thing near our scales' Mainly because most of them are only a 125 ton rating.
hey that thing was in my town, two hills :S
Behold. The power of chuck Norris Daughter.
i actually seen that one or just like it on parked on the side ot the road it was crazy
i remember my hot wheels' construction set
That driver has a real pair of balls
Its like something out of thunderbirds
That's some big hauling!
I gave it 4 stars - it would have been one more if you had filmed until the whole arrangement had passed you :-)
the anxiety id have with that job...
what the... ? thats huuuge! what happends, if on the way is 90 degree turn?
At first it doesn't seem that big then its like holy shitt!
No, I just like to photograph the stuff. A friend of mine works for Mammoet.
Breaker 1-9, unfortunately yer on the wrong highway, headin' in the wrong direction (LOL!)
woah massive
id like to c it go on the dultan or whatever its called in alaska!.... in the snow... like irt does...
There were chickens crossing the road nearby, hence the detour at Two Hills :-)
Good Gravy!
@DoffyCoffy Im pretty sure 320 wheels could handle that, your 4 tires on you car alone could probably handle 3x the weight of your car, if not maybe more depending on what tires you have.
thats a big beer can
lol wow how big of a road does it take to turn that
vewy, vewy carefully!
OutFreakinRageous!
This should be the final to worlds strongest man lol
Guy: we got a flat tire
Me: which one
Guy: No clue
What kind of engines do those trucks run?
What is the compagny? How munch do a heavy hauler in the oil field in canada earn per season ? I'm a trucker willing to go west, any help would be great.
chuck norris cold pull this trailer alone
@MUTNTbill LOL you're right. I just realized that.
what are there water macheins like?
i know have giant tractor trailer phobia
Fuckin Hell! I wonder how many miles that rig must travel in a year to pay for itself?
Aren't what you call road trains like 7 trailers one behind another?
my grandpa Lorne Oswald owns dacro industries
But will it blend ?
What are those rigs in the back that steer?
why do people always cut the videos off short
They better slow down or they'll get a ticket :O
what is that thing for?
(the load)
this reminds me of super mario bros 3 world 8.
@Tauri1980 yeah........
dutch stuff at its best!
Kto z wspominawki?
ja XDD
Ja
Ja
Ja
its alright if the tank falls the men are wearing hard hats,no prob!
YAY, a dutch company!
lol how do they get that on it?
um, i would hate to be the guy that lost that load, you would never live it down.
holy fucking shit! this was HUUUGE :)
@lcrb its what they snort in fort mac
