Although a different game from the original book, the whole game in Casino Royale is very close to the original Fleming novel. Fleming cranked up some tension in the original. Le Chiffre is a maths genius and knew every angle. Bond had to be at his very best in the book, and takes Le Chiffre with a brilliant bit of play. In this reworking the intelligence is that the winning hand would be recognised by a card player. It is not four Aces, the obvious choice, but a Straight is nearly impossible. This one is very clever. Bond creates a double-bluff when LeChiffre looks at the Dealer's cards, and can't believe that Bond will go all in on what appears to be nothing. Up until this time in the films, the Casino scenes seemed to be a means to an end; a set-up, or just to show the lifestyle Bond enjoys. In Casino Royale, it is so intrinsic to the plot that the whole big money game is shown in its entirety.
You write as a typical movie critic. Not like a poker player. 1) Bond can't bluff here (unless he has no understanding of the game) Why would someone go "all in on what appears to be nothing", when there are two players who has already put all of their chps in (6 and 5 million respectively), and then the pot is raised to 12. The first player might have nothing, hoping to get everyone to fold (albeit unlikely, since there was already 61.5 million in the pot, meaning everyone with a pair of whatever would call). The second player definitively has something hand since he calls. The third player, the re-raising math genius, is especially likely to have a strong hand. Since he still have more chips behind, Bond can technically bluff him to fold. But... Bond goes all in with 14.5 million, only 2.5 million more than the wiz' raise, meaning there's no reason to fold. There's 112.5 million in the pot now, so 2.5 more is nothing in comparison. Secondly, even if Bond went all in with e.g. 100 million, holding "nothing" (e.g. 2 of hearts and 7 of diamonds ), Bond would win only 6 million (from Le Calculatrice) and lose everything else to one of the guys who went all in. This means that from Le Abaque's perspective, Bond definitively has a very, very strong hand. He cannot be dumb enough to be bluffing here. 2) The fact that Le Chips put 14 million on the table (but the dealer somehow counted it as 12 million) makes it even more unlikely that he'd fold, as it's only 0.5 million more. It also makes him look far from a math genius, as he seemingly can't do basic addition. 3) It's hard to make any assertive judgement about the quality of the play from any players, as we don't see the full hand played out. But one thing we can know for sure is that Le Cigarette is perhaps one of the most clueless hold'em players of all time. I say this because after this hand was finished, two players would be knocked out, Bond would've had 64 million chips left, and Le Chevre would've had 51 million chips left... but the latter left the table, thus forfeitng the game for no (good) reason. 4) To round this off: "(...) it is so intrinsic to the plot that the whole big money game is shown in its entirety." Firstly, "the whole big money game" probably lasted for hours - way longer than the runtime of the movie, so it wasn't shown in its entirety. Secondly, for the hands they *did* show in the movie (3 in total), we only see the complete hand in one single instance (the first one). So we only have one hand to judge these two guys from, and in this instance, the french dude played horribly by bluffing like a moron, but got extremely lucky on the river (the last card). So Mr. Math Genius is terrible at the game, according to the movie. And your analysis is way off.

The casino scene from The World is Not Enough is going hit very differently for me, now that Robbie Coltrane (Valentin Zukovsky) is sadly no longer with us.
Thanks for The Insane Resolution..
THANKS for Good Movies
16:42 Honestly laughed out loud at the hidden arcade. Bond movies should never be too serious to crack a joke outside of one-liners
I'm not so sure it was a joke. It was released in 1983, probably filmed in 1982. Arcades were cutting edge tech back then. I'm sure it seemed futuristic and cutting edge at the time.
@@botalley1595 You're quite correct. That was exactly the purpose of that particular scene.
@@botalley1595 mnonmyoni
@@botalley1595 so weird though to see bond especially sean connery playing video game, you always thought that bond is a classic gentleman spy but he’s not above becoming a geek even if only to accomplish his mission
To me , Roger Moore and that sly smile are my favorite 007.
Roger rules.❤❤❤
Daniel Craig is a f…king stud. I often times try to emulate his portrayal of Bond.
Bond: (makes a Spectre pun)

Sean Connery and a character called James Bond go together like peaches and cream
Sean had ‘everything’ and I loved the first 5 films
My late parents lived through the first half of the 50’s living HUM DRUM lives and it was all DRAB
The first half of the 50’s was still rationing in Britain
When my parents went to see Dr No
the film gave them ESCAPISM, Far off exotic places and CASINOS
It was all so glamorous
They could never have afforded to go ‘abroad’ in the 60’s
So it went for the next 4 films
🏴🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧🇬🇧👍 👍 ❤️❤️
Sean Connory :)
Always seemed funny to me that a country would send a 60+ year old man to some of the most important missions, many of which could doom humanity if they failed.
@@antwnhs213 Hello
I’m not too sure where you think that the character of ‘James bond’ that Ian Fleming wrote about in his books was 60 + years old🤨
Sean made a TV play directed by Alvin Rakoff called Requiem for a Heavyweight in 1957 when Sean was still only 26 and known by lots of other people in the Fleming/Saltzman//Broccoli/McClory circle and was in the right place at the right time and got the job
Sean just had pure charisma
And at 31 he was the right age

Today's casino experience is a lot less fancy. I love to see Bond in a Atlantic City casino playing the quarter slots and hitting the buffet in a t shirt...
A high roller like bond isn't going to be playing on the main gaming floor with all the tourist rabble.
He'd be playing in a private room where all the high rollers are waited on hand and foot and the common riff raff are kept out.
Bond in flip flops towing a cooler full of Coors to his room😆😋 nope!
I’m more either Blackjack or Poker kind of guy myself. I beat my brother in law, stepdad AND my big sister with a four-of-a-kind: all fours
When I was a younger, cooler dude Bond was it .the villains, the money ,the larger than life adventures and then came Star Wars and now Marvel Movie , What is next……
Thank you 🙏
The shoulder iguana from licence to kill is proper villain flex
💪🦎🤨
This was a really good clip
Casino Royale (2006) onwards I watched all Bond movies.
10:09 What are the baskets all about? Looks interesting.
Here I am watching this compilation in a bed robe and night gown. While the ladies on screen are wearing fancy elegant gowns.
Casino Royale...the villain was turned into a chucking dude...
Damn we miss you Sean.
Dashing. Realbond. Sir Sean conner.y. May his soul. R. I. P.
Every time alone is the best casino scene in bond series
Somehow the scene where Connery hits 19 three times consecutively in Roulette was missing
Don't forget about the opening scene in Diamonds Are Forever, when the blackjack player says "Hit Me"! Connery swings him around, throws a right punch, sprawling him over the blackjack table, asking "Where's Blofeld?" .
Marvellous compilation! The only sour element is closing with tacky music from that Vegas circus, “Diamonds Are Forever.”
"Dr. No" was probably the purest James Bond before the gimmicks and special effects sort of took over.
Famke Janssen the most beautiful and challenging of all the Bond girls !!
OMG❤❤❤
When Sean Connery introduces himself
🚬 BOND, JAMES BOND
*Sean
@@mikeysuzefour thanks mate
Never tire of Bond
Gosh, George Lazenby was too uncomfortable in that Bond role. Must have been thinking about the crocs back home
lady : how may i address you?
gentleman : . . . B.E.A.N.N.N . . . 😂😂😂
22:47 el primer actor Mexicano, Jorge Russek!!!! (God rest his soul)
On her majesty's secret service 😮 ABSOLUTELY PANTS 😅
30 year old Sean Connery - WOW, just WOW!!!
Fantastic
Casino Royale has the longest casino scenes but Skyfall hasn't any...
Nice film thanks so much
Love the electric shock game for the world BUT....... how do they let go of the controls when being shocked and their muscles contracting around the joysticks?? Movie magic!!
Baccarat is more interesting.
God DAMN Bond's too cool!
Craig Daniel's character has been the most realistic till date
Pure Class...
James Bond, world reknowned secret agent!
Mark Novack, RUclips famous dyslexic (how else could you mess up a word like ‘renowned’ when even predictive text won’t misspell it? 🤦🏻♂️)
"I'm enjoy watching this movie, it's great"😊😊😊
The first one were he introduces himself is the best one. And being introduced to Eunice Gayson!
Good video
Have never seen cards without numbers on them outside Bond films.
Notable that first time Bond loses even a single hand is when he is played by Lazenby
Excellent compilation! 😀🐰😍😇❤️🇨🇦🙈👀💕🙏🍁🚑🚒🚓
George Lazenby was a mistake, but Diana Rigg was the best actress I saw in a Bond film.
Sean Is The Best
1:25 now we know the rock wasn't the first to do this🤨
Good job 👍👏🍷
1:41 SEAN CONNERY
LOOK VERY DEEP
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great Looking back ground at , in all actors well dress- up , I like to watch actors playing :; In James Bond so
Great, acting & as real & , feels like I was watching🐒
All movie of james bond are amazing. For your eye only
Notable that Sean never lost, but poor George did....
...Excellent resumes !!!!
My first adults movie was Dr No from dat day onwardsvi saw all bonds movies❤
"Player's privilege... fancy that"
one of my favorites
Bond wanted a private table to not just stay away from Shang Tsung, but to get some 1 on 1 with Kitana.
Playing with Mr Steed's money, eh Madame Peel?
Bond sure loves his baccarat! I still don't get that game..
You truly can sense the characters are playing in high stake games. But the stress and seriousness of their facial expressions seem to always imply they are playing well beyond their bankrolls.
After watching this, I decided, the ONLY way people are going to ever take me seriously, is if I always have an iguana sitting on my shoulder............. done.
never say never again.. the best battle.. EVER
