    Doing an engineering management module in college and all that stuff you said about Toyota and lean production etc. is 100% correct. Toyota are pretty much 100% responsible for how cars are nowadays and manufacturing in general, truly the greatest car manufacturer ever.

      It was really hard to do some inventory management back when this system was absent in company because they said it was not necessary and pain in the ass doing it. But, when they saw another company who did that system was being successful and they said "It was nice to see it tidy and efficient, why we dont adopt it?". Once this happened, everyone will follow it with chain reaction with others and that was the magic of innovation that changed how it worked in our life.

    • @johnb300m
      @johnb300m 2 года назад +2

      Yup, here's something even more interesting. What's known as the Toyota was is highly influenced by the American, Edward Demming. He pioneered these lean and efficient quality models. He tried taking these concepts to American companies and they all told him to pound sand. But, the Japanese manufacturers at the time, coming out of WW2, were eager to learn, especially Toyota. Thus began the lean, efficient, high quality Japanese products boom.

    4:18 You skipped some very important years from the history of auto manufacturing. The Training Within Industry used a "small-step work improvement" during WWII military equipment manufacturing instead of big steps that required more time to implement. When Homer Sarasohn went to Japan as part of the nuclear fallout reparations, he brought this management technique with him, which became known as kaizen. Kaizen originated as an Amercian management technique, not Japanese. It's just happened that this American was working in a Japanese factory, so the first factory to use it was in Japan.

      Like how Toyota had programs or something dedicated to rebuilding old toyotas to keep them running. I'm sure Datsun did the same and then Honda later on too. Their auto industry was molded by a need for reliable efficient cars. I remember seeing old footage of a Toyota fj40 going in for a full service and carb rebuild and greasing everything up before heading back out and alot of roads were still crappy and rough as hell. Probably also why Denso started to make so many high quality long lasting parts for cars. Like denso spark plugs reccomended to change every 100k but I've seen Hondas and toyotas with 150k on oem denso and they run fairly good and don't even look half bad for being way overdue

    The electro gyrocator is actually a form of what’s called an Inertial Navigation System, which when implemented properly is incredibly accurate. We use them on aircraft as a backup to GPS, and they use a combination of accelerometers, gyros, and rate gyros. At the beginning of your flight you simply put in your gps coordinates, which it won’t let you mess up because it can tell when you’re wrong, let it align for a few minutes, and then off you go. They also use them at sea in certain applications, but since weight isn’t as much of a concern they’re typically far larger and therefor more accurate, but also take significantly more time to align

Goes on to talk about creating superconducting metals and materials for Tesla and other projects they collectively worked on. The electronic computer used vacuum tubes, pre transistor, wasn't stable, Bendix licensed the patents to Bosch, went into production with VW in 1965. First antilock brakes on production sedan(Jag and Mercedes had them earlier on sports cars): 1970 Chrysler Imperial, option lasted only one year because nobody bought them. First beehive (conical) valve springs: 1980 Chrysler 3.3 in minivans.
