- Have you ever heard of a velvet spider? Well at first glance it looks and acts a lot like a jumping spider, but it isn't a jumping spider. It is almost as cute, though it does have a checkered past. But is the velvet spider a good pet? Is it the best pet spider for you?

You make very good content!
I'd love to see a video on tomato frogs! See how they hold up as pets!
Hey Clint I am starting a RUclips channel similar to yours
ruclips.net/video/nDx-ax7QV3Q/видео.html
This is tough to watch. I dont think these snakes are very happy.
This channel is slowly helping me get over my arachnophobia, and has also rekindled my interest in reptiles. Appreciate everything you do!
This channel inspired my interest in spiders and Tarantulas… I used to be terrified of Spiders… After watching all the videos on Tarantulas on this channel, I found “the tarantula collective” and look at me now… sharing my house with 14 tarantulas… 🤣
I’ve been using Clints’ videos as part of my graded exposure.
Even after knowing what they do to their moms?
doesn't help for me cause my phobia is connected to the tingling feeling when they run up you leg... talking from bad experience that triggered it... weirdly enough I don't have a problem with videos bout spiders or even if they are simply out of my reach (not living in my flat).
@@phoenixfire8978 Step up to a jumping spider. I used to hate spiders, but after handling jumping spiders (which are super cute and arguably intelligent) I can almost get on board with other spiders now.
@Clint's Reptiles, so when's that All The Spiders phylogeny video going up? 😏
Hahaha another awesome video mate! I love this channel.
Please make a monitor review on Black-headed Monitor, Varanus tristis tristis
hi I just subbed is it normal for my velvet spider to keep falling over when it’s not on its web?
Hello I'm wondering what the best reptile for handling and is really easy to care for
My Brachy P. died after 12 years of being in my care and two previous to me. She was a great companion. It's good to see so many respecting arachnids more. They are apex predators.
Maybe in the bug world…
Spiders are far from being apex predators. Plenty of animals eat spiders.
While they are the principal hunters of most pests, they also are hunted by other animals
As far as spiders go, this one isn't too bad (if you can avoid thinking about the feasting on mom bit). Great timing as Tuesday is National Save A Spider Day!
It wasn't an accident 🕷️
@@ClintsReptiles I figured as much! I did my own "spidery" video for today, but was no where near as calm holding mine as you were. Lol.
Apparently not all velvet spider species eat the mother
Surprisingly gruesome for such a cute spider! Gentler viewers be warned, Spider Life is ghoulish by our fuzzy mammal standards.
but what if the spider is also fuzzy?
Fuzzy mammals can also be extremely gruesome depending on the species.
@@peggedyourdad9560 Also very true!
Humans can also be quite ghoulish while being both kind of fuzzy and mammals.
I'd rather deal with giant spiders than giant shrews...
Always interesting information on a species I wasn't interested in keeping but very interested in learning about.
Nothing beats the cute face and behavior of a jumping spider when it comes to...spiders.
The stigma on spiders is wild to me. Like look at this little guy how can you hate it.
If what you want is like a jumping spider, but more expensive, less friendly and with a backstory that will give you nightmares...
Jumping spiders and ladybird spiders are undoubtedly the cutest arachnids. I've seen those little faces soften even the hardest of arachnophobes.
I'm loving all the arthropod content! The P. metallica was already at the top of my wishlist, but now I think I have to look for a velvet spider, too...
Me recovering from a difficult/exhausting week of work: 😵
Me seeing Clint's Reptiles weekly video in my subscription feed: 🤩🤩🤩
Hello, i just wanted to say that you have changed my opinion on spiders completely, i used to have aracnophobia and as soon as i found your channel, and i started watching your videos, it has cured my aracnophobia completely. Now only thing that remains is a deep fascination. And now i have a dream to own spiders one day.
So thank you, very much.
exposure therapy is tried and true for over coming fears.
You should cover freshwater dwarf shrimp, they’re the isopods of the aquatic hobby!
“Imagine if we were velvet spiders grading our offspring”
Well…we wouldn’t be.
It would in fact, be the parents who dread report-card day... not the kids 😂
Since I live in Florida, pretty much the most humid climate in the US, I will have to give this one a pass for the spiders sake.
Hey i love your stuff clint! can you do a video on a rabbit( holland lop if possible.)
Yes, yes I can...
@@ClintsReptiles THANK YOU!!!!
Can you pls make a video about the bamboo false cobra(Pseudoxenodon bambusicola) as there is only a little info available on them and I would like to learn more about this wonderful species
Clint. Watching you and your team grow and expand has been a blessing. I have so much love for yall. Your authenticity and light heart is palpable.
I've never heard of these before but they're adorable, tho I won't be getting one any time soon cause of ...yk the cannibalism thing
Please do the review of the Brazilian salmon pink birdeater tarantula please pretty please 🥺🙏
Ive been working on teaching my siblets that spiders are amazing, helpful creatures. Your spider videos are the perfect visual tool ☺️
So cute! Think it is another cool species not available in Oz. 😊 Also... "Rocket surgery?"... 😅 Love watching the collabs too.
Inexplicably, I found a male ladybird (E. Sandaliatus) spider in a graveyard in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada one time. How it got there, I'll never know - it was a tourist spot so maybe it hitched a ride on a tourist? Spiders are known to do that!
Clint, we just acquired a four eyed opossum. There isn't a ton of information online for them but, I'd love to see a video from you about them.
I have an eresus walckenaeri I found at an expo and it's definitely the easiest to care for, and honestly the lifespan puts them slightly above jumpers for me. Not all jumpers are as handle-able as what you see online anyway.
I’m starting some research into creating a desert ecosphere vivarium. I was planning on a scorpion for the star of the show as the vivarium’s major predator.
I’ve kept a LOT of scorpions before, including L. quinquestriatus.
I’m thinking of going with Androctonus bicolor though. If this idea comes to fruition (and my lifelong hobby of keeping dangerous arachnids doesn’t kill me) I might make a video about it.
It’s nice that Cliff is making videos about more beginner-friendly arachnids though! Always a treat to watch. 😊
I wonder what happens if you remove the egg sac from the spider before hatching? Does the female still die, and is it possible to find an alternate food source for the spiderlings?
I feel like killing things with kindness is an unfortunately common problem when keeping pets
Thanks for this video Clint! The cuteness of this ladybird spider makes them... slightly less horrifying to me 😂❤
My friend sells them at reptile shows here in Oregon! 😊
love it when russ comes on to give some wonderful info... he seems like such a cool guy
LOL Clint, that comic timing is on point!
It breaks my heart everytime you say how handleable jumping spiders are. They always run away from me when I say hi to them in the wild 😭
@@samarnadra I'll have to see if I can find one
Hello to Clint can you review rare and uncommon lizard species?
Im very interested in some species like;
- collared lizards
- Oplurus Grandidieri
- mountain horned lizard
- and more but im most interested in these three species right now
Oh hey! Finally, an animal I actually see in the wild occasionally! They're pretty common around here, I see them in spring and summer times, cheerily scurrying along the outside walls of buildings all cute like. I was taught they're jumping spiders, interesting to learn that's not actually true! I always make sure to appreciate them when I see them, if from a distance so I don't harm them
I think they are very cute and have a similar, completely black velvet spider. 😊🕷
Is there going to be video about pink toe tarantulas and Brazilian black beauty tarantulas?
Oh, I have an Idea! How about some North American Gamefish?! Like Bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye or Pike? That'd be awesome!
You are the craziest MF I have ever encountered and I love you to death... You ARE AWESOME!
Velvet spiders and jumping spiders are cute and beautiful. They're possibly the best cure for arachnophobia.
Know that I only came because I NEEDED to do know what the spider do. Like, why it in jail T-T
Man I’d love a sad spider
late to this party but so much fun watching this little one during the video! I love the lil tappy spiders do to feel their way around, there's something so charming about it.
Does she use her own venom to liquify her insides? I’m very curious on how that works!
Too bad people usually hate spiders, I love loving them
I love Clint's smack downs on parenting and how difficult it is. If I didn't know he had the little critters, I'd suspect he was Child Free.
He’s Mormon of course he has kids
@@juliac3933 He at least doesn't attempt to force children on others.
Mmmmm now you need to do a video on sea mice to up the truama. Plus, I have found that very few people know about that ... Alas, not a pet.
Velvet ants that aren't ants. Velvet spiders that aren't jumping spiders. Neither are made of velvet. Profit?
1:55 is something I do not expect from a pet review.
Great opening Clint. Informative humor is the best humor. Your delivery in this is 10/10.
Hey Clint! I love your channel, especially as I'm not sure if I'll ever own my own reptiles. I saw a video you made back in 2018 where you went over all the reptiles you owned. I'd love to see an update, as I know you've acquired a few more over the past couple years.
Omg she is so precious! ❤️ I am in love. 🥰
I overcame my arachnophobia last year and jumping spiders are a lot of fun!!!! Mine had babies 😅 inquisitive and cute creatures
If a spider is cute
It's a spooder
I don't make the rules
Heyy,
I was wondering if you could make a video on terrestrial tarantula sling care :)
Love your videos
Another spider I didn’t know I need
How can these ladybird and jumping spiders be so cute?! Yet all their other eight legged relatives trigger terror, revulsion, and the desire to use a flame thrower. Things like tarantula, I don't care what Clint says, just NO!
I had no idea they existed. They’re so pretty!
It be interesting to know the differences between the two similar spiders
Clint has been what made me get into pet arancids I have two arvicularia. I absolutely adore the slings I got. But I still may later consider other pet spiders much later
I'm sure you guys were just having fun, but I'm not sure exactly why you seem to find so much joy in the suffering of another creature. Whether or not it's "natural" is beside the point, it kind of feels weird to hear something sad and gruesome and find it joyful, like you've lost all your empathy just because they're different from you. We can't always use our energy for sadness when there's so much suffering in the world, but there's no need to enjoy it either. I really like all of your work on this channel, but that aspect of it bothers me.
Laughing about a dark reality is not the same as "finding joy in the suffering of another creature". I take no joy in suffering, but this reality sure is twisted...
Well hi there!
Now what am I supposed to say??
Beautiful spiders ❣️
Hey Clint, I wore the same tie on my prom last week. It got me a lot of slow dances!
😂😂😂 their checkered past 🤣🤣🤣
Clint is adorable 🥺
Can't wait for the next one!
You guys should SOO do the velvet worm!
I love catching Rus's livestreams! It is so fun to see him on Clint's channel showing us these amazing invertebrates!!
The bigger ones are so gorgeous I’ve been looking for a female but these are soooo hard to find
That is adorable! I love that you do arachnids as well as reptiles.
"Rocket surgery"... now there's some mordib curiosity I'd indulge..
Now I'm picturing a 101 Dalmations x Hunger Games crossover story. 101 dogs enter, 1 very fat satisfied dog leaves.
I have a Little Eresus. I adore my little spider. They are pricey compared to the cost of my jumpers. I paid 100 dollars for it and 40-50 dollars for my jumpers.
This was delightfully morbid. Wednesday Addams approved! 🥇
Found mine at an expo for just $50, I was floored because I'd never seen one for less than $100-$200 before that! Which is quite a lot for such a short lived creature. I don't get to see them very often but they've been the hardiest and easiest of all the slings I've raised so far. Definitely not a species I'll likely go on to breed, the way I have with my widow spiders, but I'm really grateful I got lucky enough to keep one :)
I have a velvet spider coming. Mine cost two hundred dollars for a sling, I’m not complaining though. I’m glad I found your Chanel, great information. Thank you so much.
yeaaahhh,,, as a spider breeder, folks would sometimes ask if i would ever carry velvet spiders. The thing is :X I'm just not quite up for sacrificing my beautiful girls... I honestly cant imagine it. They are such sweet creatures. Beautiful and easy to care for. But, if you arent ready to see them once every month or even once every 6 months... you shouldnt get one! Get a jumping spider for a visible pet, thats for sure!
I can change the likes from 3.8k to 3.9k I feel powerful
❤ your video’s Clint, so knowledgeable and a great help to us new to the arachnid hobby 👍🤩
And a bunch of puppies looking fat and guilty….that made me really LOL! You seem so nice Clint, until you say something like that! Ok I just watched all the way to the end. I see I’m not the only sicko here! Lol!!
Some species of velvet spiders don’t commit matriphagy. They make wonderful little pets! Love them so much
You know what would make a possibly fun best lizard video. One about these really cool guys ouroborus cataphractus 😊
wow i'm super late to the party but loved seeing this video! i have 5 of these cute little spiders (4 Eresus species and one Stegodyphus) and they're definitely one of my favorites! as slings they definitely do cost a pretty penny and you'll be feeding them fruit flies for at least 6+ months, but it is such a joy keeping them and watching them grow! i believe the Gandanameno species are the only mothers that can survive after having babies, but overall a wonderful video!
Ladybugs in Russia are called "God's little cow". Go figure
I literally just found my new favorite YT channel😂
Spiders have 8 eyes and 8 legs, they basically can attack you in 64 different ways.
I just picked up my eresus walckenaeri today! Very expensive but i am looking forward to watching it grow. I have never seen them being sold online let alone where i live. I just happened to go to my pet store to look at the list of spiders they had. I ended up taking it home on the motorcycle lol. It was a 2 hour trip with no issues.
They're cute and all but I think I'll stick to my jumpers. I don't like that mom thing and I don't like the fact that they're not as social to people
I wouldn't risk getting them, I live in a temperate rainforest so humidity is a given. Mold is an absolute pain where I live, the nice thing is my cactus not only survives but has grown without being watered ever.
Rocket surgery.......talk about challenging!🤣
I just found a velvet spider at an expo in abbotsford ,BC Canada it is a Eresus sp. Balcanicus im so excited that i have her/him. Too small to tell.❤ great video its so hard to come across any info on these cuties
Thanks to this video, I now know that my true calling in life is rocket surgery.
Jumping spiders are probably the only kind of spider that I'd feel comfortable handling, these seem to be very similar but those sad looking eyes might see me as their mother, and I'm not too comfortable with that
yeahh boy! keept hem spiders comming!! Also I would love to see you cover some kind of a monkey!
