Today I returned to play tennis after 4 years of inactivity, I tried the serve and volley style of Takao-pro and it worked better than I expected 😍 a very beatiful way of play

Insane that he had such a good serve at 5'9"
If nishikori had a serve like that, then he probably would have won a grand slam and several masters 1000's by now.

One good thing that will come from the big 3 era ending, like once the dust has settled and its truly the past, is that we'll stop suffering from recency bias with these legends and just appreciate how great they were in their respective best periods.

My recollection from the time... So don't quote me on that one. Was that club tennis was a pretty good option in Japan and effectively a viable alternative to the tour.
Lot of risk in going on the ATP tour. Solid pay cheque with the clubs. I remember a few people I knew around that time who weren't that flash but went and made attractive money in German club tennis. So may be some truth to my shady recollection.
Mightnt be a terrible way to go for tennis really. Solid club/domestic comps. Get support and a paycheque..the best represent on the world stage. Not a nice life trying to make it in tennis.

Courts slowed a down a lot by this time and he had awful groundstrokes. Plus because of his height, his serve was never the weapon needed to play this style.

@@Vipa567 Suzuki's serve was great. How he used it, not so much.
Edberg made a living off the 110 mph kick to the backhand and his own backhand volley.

Even though Fed won in straight sets, this entire match was a highlight reel…for both players!
By the beginning of third set, Federer already had 40 winners to only 22 errors while Suzuki has 25 winners to 10 errors….which is insane for a straight sets match.
Really miss when the courts were this fast and the balls weren’t so heavy.
Guys are literally injuring themselves these days trying to hit winners with heavier balls and really slow courts.
Makes you really appreciate Alcaraz’s ability to hit winners at Mach-10 speed in this era of slow courts and heavier balls.
They need to bring back these fast courts.
    So enjoyable to watch!!
