Happy to see you enjoy these makeovers! I forgot to mention: I bought these books before the pandemic. If this inspires you to shop, please consider online shopping to stay home. If you need to go out, practice social distancing and wear a mask. Stay safe 💛
Sea Lemon , I ordered three note books from Amazon. When they arrived all three had greasy finger marks and what looked like sneeze spray on them. They were not cheap notebooks either. I covered the paper inside with plastic wrap and thoroughly scrubbed and disinfected the covers while wearing latex gloves. I probably should have returned them but I needed to start using them right away . About a week ago I stopped in to an office supply store out of town and found the exact notebooks there that were pristinely clean. Live and learn.
love your videos! you inspired me to start bookbinding. my first project is a mini casebound book. it's coming together nicely. i would love to see you do a sewn boards bound book sometime! i do art and think it would be a great sketchbook since it lays flat and would be a great tutorial video. hope you have a great day!
I appreciate your post encouraging folks to shop online; every bit of effort at not mingling is needed right now. The makeovers were great - such a bright improvement! You are so talented, I love the painted cover!
i recommend sewing the coil close in the end. i do this to all my spiral notebooks and it prevents the sheets of falling off and makes them easier to work with
I bought the bind-it-all machine because I love moleskin watercolor books but like spiral binding so I cut the binding off and rebind them with spirals! It works great!!!
What fun to have it YOUR way! I have a Zutter, thanks to a Tuesday Morning find years ago. It doesn't have the ability to not punch specific holes like the other one does but it is compact and easy to use. I have used a huge, commercial machine and it was easy to use, but I do NOT have that kind of space. It is very heavy, too, so I would have to have a dedicated spot for it. The biggest problem is always remembering that the back cover always need to be turned around so it is on the top of the pile. We did a group project and there was a lot of learning experiences for everyone. It turned out that I was the only one who had used anything like this before, so I got to help more than I made things. :D
This is a great upcycle idea. Loved the turquoise coil.... I'd never thought about that. I will never be able to look at bent coils the same ever again. Great ideas. Thank you. Stay safe.
Internet Weirdness or a Miracle...? It's Saturday morning and I'm sitting at my computer/craft desk folding sketching paper with a bone folder into signatures which I will then stitch together to form a Christmas gift journal. All skills that I learned from you. Earlier I shopped on Amazon for spiral binding machines while I carefully removed the wire coil from a sketching pad... Then, this video notification popped up. So thank you, Jennifer, good job at, huh...reading my mind?
I have the Zutter Bind-it-all and I love it. I switch back and forth between making my own planner pages and using disc bound planners. Zutter and Cinch have different holes per inch ratios, so you have to get the correct binding wire to correspond with your machine.
Great ideas, thank you I have a cinch and like it. I have not had any problems using coils I found on Amazon. You have inspired me to use it more often, using dollar tree supplies. Love your paint job.
I’ve used all three types of binding machines. The big ones are amazing, strong, punch lots of paper, and bind beautifully. They also take up a lot of space, and allow you to mis-punch a lot of paper at once. I bought a Zutter Bind-it-All, used it for a while, and found it to be fiddly, only closed or punched a few coils at once, and it’s really easy to squeeze the coils too hard and fold them inward. I sold it and bought the middle option, which turned out to be practical, easy to store, easy to use, and a good compromise. Sometimes Goldilocks is right on!
You are certainly a talented artist. I believe that you have saved several of my books through your videos helping me to fix them up with expert instructions! I appreciate how much you give back to all of your viewers. I think you can help everyone who wants to work on or create a new book! Thank you!
Love this! I am always adding cute covers to the cheap little notebooks I use. Plain is so boring! I have one on my work desk and one in a basket by my tv chair. Great for jotting a quick shopping list or making a quick to do list.
Wonderful idea with the pocket folders! I am going to try that one for sure. Thank you for your time and talent. Oh... I have the Cinch and it work wonderfully for binding.
I have a Bind-it-All. I have one of the original model. It works well, but if you are doing a taller book, you have to work out where you want it to punch - sometimes involving a lot of trial and error. You need to punch the pages in batches, but I've used it for over 10 years and it still works great. I love being able to make my own journals.
This was so fun! I never even thought of making over those spiral notebooks. I have so many I could do this to :) Yes please do a vid on the binding machine if you want to! 10/10 would watch.
i'd love to see a binding machine review. i used to work with professional binding machines so it would be cool to see what a consumer grade one looks like.
They both turned out cute. I'm not really a fan of the coil bindings. I wouldn't mind seeing you turn one of those coil books into a sewn book. What i'd really love to see is you take an old paperback and rebind it with hard covers or with new covers that have your own art on them, or making your own little animal or children themed hardbook. I did love watching the painting montage at the end.
I love this! Great idea to use something damaged with a nice upgrade. And the Cinch is great! I have one and made my mom a Dr. Seuss themed school calendar (she’s a teacher) and I came out great. You won’t be disappointed if you use one.
Fun idea! Just a note, next time you need to use pliers with something that might get scratched, wrap the jaws of the pliers with fabric or tape or paper towel. Mechanics trick I have used throughout my life. :)
Please can you do the photo album makeover! I loved watching how these books got a new life. They even looked happier too! I feel an urge to do this with some old notebooks!
those plant leaves look absolutely *stunning* I'm in awe of your ability to build up colour until what looks like blobs and swirls suddenly become realistic depictions.
Thank you for this tutorial. I was able to remove some of the important aspects from my last agenda (plastic pouch, notes and address section and tabs to my new agenda. The manual recoiling had me going crazy until I watched your tutorial!
I love the painted sketchbook!!!! Gorg! I've been looking for inspiration for a pack of three canvas panels and you have given me soo many ideas! Thank you 😘
I buy cheap sketchbooks and uncoil them, then I print on the paper and recoil them again (as you did). They are cheap and the paper is awesome. It’s a bit tricky printing on the paper. You need to make sure you feed the paper into the printer the right way so the holes are on the correct side and the paper can stick together when it’s feeding through but once you have mastered it you have a customised planner or notebook with great paper at a affordable price without purchasing binding equipment.
Both notebooks turned out really nice, especially the one you painted! I’d love to see you use the Bind-It-All machine! I have one and have used it with some success, but I’m still not great at it!
Also, it might be useful to know that Staples will make holes in paper for ring bound books. Normally, you pay to have them make the holes & put a coil in it but I happened to have a nice recycled copper coil & some paper I really liked so I asked & sure enough, they could do it. It was reasonably priced if someone isn't going to be doing this sort of thing all the time. I am interested in hearing about the 50$ hole punch thingy though, I am really put off by the high price on the machines!
Thank you for the tutorial. I searched your video library for a way to create a cover for spiral bound books that cover the spiral metal coils? I think it's called concealed wire-o binding.
I own the Zutter and it's quite handy. I just recently got it, though. It could be utilized more, though, and I would love to see what you can come up with!
Great video! You can't use all kind of wires with all the coil binder machines. You need to check the pitch (the number of holes per inch). The Cinch has a 2:1 pitch and a lot of commercial binders have a 4:1 pitch
How was painting on the Canson sketchbook cover? Was it pretty easy? I've always wanted to paint on one, but I was worried the texture would be funky to work with. Thanks for the relaxing vibes this morning

Now every time I see a cheap dollar store book, I’ll think this book has potential! 🤣.
Both of those books look gorgeous!
Now everyone wants the discounted notebooks to fix them up like you did!
Spray painting a coil is the easiest way to customize a notebook. So simple yet it really makes it beautiful!
I appreciate your post encouraging folks to shop online; every bit of effort at not mingling is needed right now. The makeovers were great - such a bright improvement! You are so talented, I love the painted cover!
Finally a book binding video that’s new! So great to hear from you again Sea Lemon!
i recommend sewing the coil close in the end. i do this to all my spiral notebooks and it prevents the sheets of falling off and makes them easier to work with
You re so patient with those coils.

I'd like to see you take some more damaged wire coil books and rebind them with the same holes, but not using wire coil, maybe thread or something!
This is a great upcycle idea. Loved the turquoise coil.... I'd never thought about that. I will never be able to look at bent coils the same ever again. Great ideas. Thank you. Stay safe.

Love the idea of spray painting the spirals!

I don't "need" any more spray paint, but darn that teal spray paint is gorgeous. Love this video!!!

Wow,those turned out really well..they both look better than most notebooks and sketchbooks I've seen online with designs already on them 😊
Really nice. And yes, of course I want to see you revive the photo album...I want to see all your videos!
Stunning painting 😍

Love to see things redeemed!
This was so fun! I never even thought of making over those spiral notebooks. I have so many I could do this to :) Yes please do a vid on the binding machine if you want to! 10/10 would watch.
i'd love to see a binding machine review. i used to work with professional binding machines so it would be cool to see what a consumer grade one looks like.
the Zutter bind it all out performs the Cinch machine hands down
These both turned out great. I really like the painted patterns you do.
You can get some book binders that are in the $30 range that are all done by hand and it has plastic binding.
Beautiful notebook covers!! I like the way you marked it off to paint. You have inspired me💕🐬

I like these fun videos and your painting is pretty. 😊
I'd love to see a video about the binding machine!! Anything bookbinding and I'm here 😁😁😁
Please do more make overs. They are really cool.💜
Ooh! I could make my grandmother a makeovered bullet journal for her birthday (but I'd have to get either big sheets or spiral bound)
I love this! Great idea to use something damaged with a nice upgrade. And the Cinch is great! I have one and made my mom a Dr. Seuss themed school calendar (she’s a teacher) and I came out great. You won’t be disappointed if you use one.
I love this, maybe I'll even try it myself. 💖💖

Love your contebt and your voice very soothing. Tfs!
Please can you do the photo album makeover! I loved watching how these books got a new life. They even looked happier too! I feel an urge to do this with some old notebooks!
Love the painted cover! So pretty!!
Wonderful paint! Very nice, I love it.
I’m very curious about binding machines. My mom used one at her old job, but it was for the plastic kind where the holes are actually slits.
I have two bindit all machines. I love mine. Give it a try. Lots easier than the screw punch you use.
These came out so good!!!
those plant leaves look absolutely *stunning*
I'm in awe of your ability to build up colour until what looks like blobs and swirls suddenly become realistic depictions.

Your videos are always a welcome addition to my week❤️
Those makeover covers are super cute! 🥰
I completely forgot that you were in my subscription list until you uploaded lmao
The painted covers came out so pretty!
so very cute, you gave me so much inspiration
#17 _You always create amazing dollar store make overs. Please do more! Thank you!_ 😊
I really enjoyed this ! I’d be interested in seeing you review one of the coil binders
Both notebooks turned out really nice, especially the one you painted! I’d love to see you use the Bind-It-All machine! I have one and have used it with some success, but I’m still not great at it!
I love these makeovers! They turned out great!
I've got the Zutter BIA. I really enjoy it. I've used it for years to make a book out of the Christmas Cards we receive.
Can you try the new mini cinch machine?
new vid from sea lemon!
you.just.made.my.whole.day.
It's never occurred to me to spray paint the coils! THANKS, Jennifer! :-)
Ooohhh, your puppy ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are a life saver! My sketch book broke
I love my Bind-it-All, I think it's a good value.
Not sure if you did a video on any of the binding machines but I’d be interested in seeing you use a Zutter. I’m considering getting one!
I could spend the entire day watching your videos!
Also, it might be useful to know that Staples will make holes in paper for ring bound books. That’s happening to my agenda, I shove it into my back pack.
Your dollar stores have such cool folder designs! Ours (in the UK) are definitely lacking
I love it ❤ Thank you for this idea!😘
Oou this was really nice to watch :D
Makes me want to get some clearance books and fix them up now 😋
Love your channel. Inspirational.
I loved this tutorial! Would a thin coat of clear UV finish help with the paint scratching off the coil? Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for the tutorial. I searched your video library for a way to create a cover for spiral bound books that cover the spiral metal coils? I think it's called concealed wire-o binding.
Awesome makeover, great video as always 😍
spraying the coils 👀 why did I not think of it. Thank you
I own the Zutter and it's quite handy. I just recently got it, though. It could be utilized more, though, and I would love to see what you can come up with!
Gotta love these makeovers! It's so inspiring, I wanna try it myself next time :)
Looks so good
Omgosh love these!😍😍
Use the photo album for sticker storage!
Love it as always
Great video! You can't use all kind of wires with all the coil binder machines. You need to check the pitch (the number of holes per inch). The Cinch has a 2:1 pitch and a lot of commercial binders have a 4:1 pitch
Good to know!
I'd like to see that 50$ one if it's able to do different types of binding styles
I just picked up a Zutter, would love to watch what you would do with it ;)
Nice makeovers
How was painting on the Canson sketchbook cover? Was it pretty easy? I've always wanted to paint on one, but I was worried the texture would be funky to work with. Thanks for the relaxing vibes this morning
It was textured, but paintable ☺️
thats lovely! thank you
brilliantly simple ❤️
More notebook makeovers, pleeeease 😍👌🏻
Sea Lemon, do you have any recommendations for rotary cutters or guillotine paper cutters for chipboard?
A binding machine review would be handy
The both look great! Thanks for sharing! Peace and love...Suz What 🌻🌼🌻🌼
Damnn you used t get so many views back in the day, I guess times changed. You were my favourite youtuber as a kid.
I love all your makover videos, and a suggest for your future vid, please try to do the Gothic bookbinding tutorial.
Hello jennifer...great video🤩
Love this.
