In art school we had an assignment to create a master copy of a famous artists work. I rendered her Sharecropper in ink pen but at the time I had no clue who she was or what printmaking was. She inspired me in many ways to peruse printmaking as my main discipline. She’s such an incredible woman
I had the great privilege of seeing Elizabeth Catlett while attending a lecture on her work at Spelman College. This was in 1999, so she may have been able to come back to the U.S. sooner than 2002. She was unexpectedly in the audience and initially choose to just be in the audience. Eventually she spoke and afterwards I could tell this was a special moment for everyone in that room. Catlett’s legacy continued when I transferred to Howard and her work is always a grounding place to go to. I love the diversity of your content. I subscribed and keep up the good work 🤗🤗🤗
In my 30s, I collected original signed lithographs by Catlett, and she has remained one of my favorite artists into my 60s, alongside her former husband, Charles White. This is a beautiful tribute to her. Thank you for sharing!
I work at an art museum on my college campus and right now we are doing an exhibition on the art of Elizabeth Catlett from the collection of Samella Lewis, her art is so powerful, I felt that I had to learn more about her. This was very informative, thank you!
So well done and so unbelievable that I never heard of her before (tho I have definitely seen some in other, non-art contexts). So talented, and so gripping, commanding your attention with the intensity - at least that's how it affected me. Thank you very much, I'm very glad I found this. 😊
It PAINS my ❤ heart that she was EXILED from a place, and country she called home. Murders, rapists, and pedophiles just go a few 👣👣👣 feet/miles away. 🥺😢😞
Thank you for this! A friendly piece of advice: The word women is not pronounced the same as woman. It is pronounced "weh-min." Woman is pronounced "wool-min."
I really enjoyed watching this video. I knew nothing of Elizabeth Catlett previously and this video made me want to research more of her work. Thank you for the video!
No disrespect. Mrs. Till first name is pronounced “Maim-me” and epitome is “eh-pi-toh -me”. Enjoyed this video essay on an artist/activist who deserves more notice!
There seems to be a new trend of people pronouncing words very differently than I was taught from the Oxford dictionary. Makes me wonder what's going on in schools (not been in N. America for 20yrs now). THAT SAID - I'd been taught that giddy meant excited and giggly, but it means DIZZY. So imagine my utter confusion upon being prescribed medication "2 times daily for giddiness"! 😂 Did I say I felt dizzy, I meant DITZY 🤦🏻♀️. It happens to the best of us.

for anyone in the NYC area, there’s a phenomenal exhibition of catlett’s work currently on view at the Brooklyn Museum until 1.19.25!
Highly recommended.
Thank you. I’m in BK. It’s yucky out and I was looking for an exhibit to take it.
I was just there but I’m gonna try and go back to catch this! Thank you ❤
Thank you v much.
Thank you. I will check it out. Maybe pick up a print or two.
