Very interesting, there has been nobody quite like him. He is a relative of mine, I am a descendant of his brother Oscar Bloch. There was also another brother, William Bloch and he was an actor. Oscar Bloch became a Doctor to the King of Denmark and the founder of the most famous hospital in Copenhagen, the "Rigshospitalet." Quite a talented family, in the arts, medical and science.

Hi! I really loved this video, as for I have a deep mental connection to soviet arts and music, and above all to space aestethics. I would love to know, where can I find more of this type of art? Google gives me very unsatisfactory results when I input "socialist realism", or such, only a few examples seemingly repeating. Where do you find art of this type?

Awesome video. Ive really been enjoying going back through your channel and watching your video essays. I don’t want to step on your creative choices in any way, but as a person who does a lot of public reading of my own creative work, I wanted to give you one piece of feedback: to slow down a little, give the audience enough time to let your awesome writing sink in, like you did at the very end of the video. Keep up the fantastic content! Be well

This is one of the few videos that speak about this so I’m glad that the quality is there from start to finish. Soviet art has always had a great flair to it and the space race propaganda is, in my opinion, one of the best artistic collections that have ever been made by a nation, the color palettes are perfect, the themes are flawlessly expressed, etc.; subscribed, hope your channel goes big!

I love the consumer culture of the USSR. Older people who were born and raised in that era still use reusable bags and the net ones that have been out of fashion for ages and it's hilarious to see them back on the west. By the way, in Russia we reuse vinyl plastic bags like 5+ times until they are completely wrinkled, stretched or torn. Although people reuse just to save money, and if you feel like you can afford it, you can throw it away every time, I really hope we can keep this habit. I'm also really nostalgic for the proper tableware in fast food restaurants and coffee shops, it feels like a much better experience and I can thankfully afford to stay for 10 minutes to drink my tea and munch on a pastry.

Those feel so familiar! A haven't lived in the Union, but I live in Russia. Most of these designs you can still see in some apartments, cars are on the roads... posters are gone, but they are somewhere deep inside, always remembered.

"Russian" avantgarde isn't Russian at all. Some of the totalitarian art unsurprisingly looks exactly like German nazi and Italian fascist "art". Most of the later designs are directly copied/stolen from other countries. Every single car built in the USSR was directly copied from the West. Unsurprisingly we can see the same things in China now. But somehow communist Chinese dog shit products are seen as what they are but because of how successfull Kremlin propaganda is Soviet dogshit products are seen as cool.

An interesting example of the celebration of progress is how synth music was treated in USSR. While in the west it was first seen as somewhat rebellous and took a while to become mainstream, in the Union the sounds of the future were embraced soon after they were introduced to the country.
