For the winch hook... look into a daystar winch isolator. It works as a line weight; and also keeps your hook snug against the rollers without damage. Its like $20 if its in your budget.
Check your local scrap metal yards or a local trucking company to see if they have any junk semi truck bumpers. You'd have lots of metal to work with. I'm really surprised that you didn't go with a receiver hitch on the front for mounting the winch this way you could put it on either end of the vehicle.
Since this is the cheap jeep you should hockey together the turn signal, just on principal. When it comes time for a front bumper you could use the plastic one as a template for the angles and cuts you want to make. Just cut it up into smaller sections to work with.
If you could find a piece of 6 or 8 inch round heavy pipe you could cut two corners for each side and use square tube in the middle on the back for a bumper. Then build off of the tow hitch and the factory bumper mounts. Just a thought. Looking good man.
haha my 97 ZJ not only flashed the fog lights, it would also flash the headlights!!!! Had to pull the lighting panel and resolder about 5 cold solder joints!!
What about welding the hitch and adding more supports for the hitch, then make new bumper brackets for the stock mounting location and hook the bumper up to the hitch bar and stock mounting locations?
dude , quick easy fix for those fog lights, if you so choose to keep them instead of tossing them/selling them... take the headlight switch out, open it up, and solder the board... VERY common issue with our ZJ's... Also, if you're planning on selling the fogs, i can trade you the full 6 piece headlight set for the fogs... only thing i'm missing on my ZJ is the fog lights... Keep up the great work and as always, I'm enjoying this Cheap Jeep build!
did i hear, final fantasy 9 and halo mixed music with a sick beat added. hell yes!!!! Getting me motivated to do a cheap jeep project. keep up the awesome work
I'd suggest a sheet of 1/8" (for less budget) or 3/16" (more budget) sheet of steel and then you can make a rear bumper, side armor, and skid plates all from a $80-100~ sheet for 1/8 and about $120-150 for 3/16. Other stuff you can make too but that's pretty common stuff and will take most of the sheet.
I just cut that front "cross member" out, replaced it with a piece of 2x6 that I opened up to set the winch in. That gave me a winch mount that didn't stick out so far, ruining my approach angles. I mounted it to the unibody by opening up those holes leading into the frame rails, which perfectly fit 2x4 inside, which I then sandwiched with the frame rails with some 1/4 plate out the outsides and ran some grade 8 bolts through the entire thing. I saved probably 4 inches of clearance, have a stronger mount, and it was probably less than $50 in material. Now I just need to get around to building a bumper off of that winch mount...
Looking great. Good work. I will part out a few jeeps for each one I build to offset the cost and I count that on the budget. I think you have that right as well.
looks like the rough country shares the same design as an ENGO winch. engo winch is the toughest winch I've ever owned. the guy I sold it to says the same thing. I just recently sold my warn ti 9.5 and got a new model engo e9000. winch cost 299 shipped to the door. I picked up some dyneema line for 130. the whole thing weighs less than 50 lbs.
I have a video Idea for cheap jeep. Painting coil springs experimental. I was looking for videos on painting coil springs and saw Plasti-dip and rust-oleum as the cheap solutions but not that many videos on youtube for either. Try plasti-dip on driver side and rust-oleum on the right. See which holds up best to chipping and peeling, which looks the best, which one sheds mud and junk when cleaned.....
Matt just so u know ur fog lights button was pushed in if u couldn't get them to shut off that's why that lever is how bright ur interior lights are the button to the right is to turn on and off ur fog lights just saying
Maybe reinforcing that winch plate with an integral entry angle skid plate and a stinger to help protect the winch could be a way to have another recovery point.
Has Rough Country went up in quality lately? I was under the impression their stuff was cheap entry level stuff. At least in the realm of suspension. I did a 2.5 inch lift on my TJ with all new lowers CA's, shocks, springs, and a track bar. The only thing I haven't replaced is the springs. And to be fair, their front lower's are built well. Their joints, at least at the time that I purchased them, were no good. I called them once and customer service was really good. No complaints on that front. They sent me new ones free of charge; they just wore out again in a matter of months. Ended up buying Currie Johnny joints for the Rough Country lower fronts and am still running them.
Im currently making a cheap jeep yj picked her up for next to nothing she came with 4.2L and a webber 2bbl and a 4"lift and she runs great and i plan on getting 2 more carbs and a racing cam and a ford 8.8 but I currently have no job and am broke so it's gona take a wile
hey whats up buddy its me john from the 956 south Texas i never saw a mud video of the famous Comanche jeep truck u cut up hop i see it soon some day .keep in touch.
A pre face-lifted ZJ would be better, because the front end is strait all the way across. You wouldn't have to deal with toughs pain in the ass curves.
I use a "wrench saver" with all my wenches. It's a hard rubber ring that goes on the line between the hook and the rollers. It allows you to tighten the line without stripping gears or tearing anything up and also keeps it from rattling. Just a thought
Have you ever mentioned in previous episodes what tires you intend to end up with? I'm sure you're probably wanting to get through some of the other items first and figure out what you have left to spend on tires. I'm a month and a half away probably from trying to figure out what resides behind the plastic on my KJ.
Nice the Cheap Jeep is coming along nicely! I didn't expect you to be able to get a winch for it! Good call on the Front bumper, making a custom one would have been too much for the Cheap Jeep, but after cutting the stock one it looks nice. How much budget do you have left?
What year is thing? 96+? My 94 bumper hooked in under the headlights so you have to take the grille out and the headlight and turn signal housings needless to say my bumper didn’t do back on haha
Whats the plans for the jeep? Plus would you make a video of off-roading it or something? I'm eager to see this thing move after watching it sit there.
Still a better love story than twilight.
I see someone's caught the ZJ virus... it's extremely contagious... I've been thru a CJ5, CJ7, YJ, and the ZJ has been my favorite! nice winch btw...
For the winch hook... look into a daystar winch isolator. It works as a line weight; and also keeps your hook snug against the rollers without damage. Its like $20 if its in your budget.
I love these videos! Laughed so hard at the bumper being ripped off. I love how you put the small little things in to make it humorous.
I love the music for the montage! Very nice!
The first few minutes of this is hilarious, keep up the good work
I'm always impressed in the ways that your able to fabricate things. Looks good the way you did the bumper and witch. Great video.
the begining man. that was good. still watching it. gonna get back to it.
the grills on the 93-95 zjs are smaller and straight across like the cherokee making custom bumpers easy to make on those years
A great vid. my friend Keep up the good work!
Nice precise mixture of coolant there

I'm really surprised that you didn't go with a receiver hitch on the front for mounting the winch this way you could put it on either end of the vehicle.
Very entertaining to watch your videos. Thanks for the hard work.
Since this is the cheap jeep you should hockey together the turn signal, just on principal. When it comes time for a front bumper you could use the plastic one as a template for the angles and cuts you want to make. Just cut it up into smaller sections to work with.
LOL, I knew that you would go to far and bow out the rear bumper. Great video as usual Matt, keep them coming please.
As a ZJ owner and enthusiast, I love the front bumper. Very unique look.
Dude Thank you for all your videos, many times I have got my answers from your videos... for my 99 2 Door XJ Build! Thank you!
no problem bro!
These cheap Jeep videos make me want to build a ZJ
make it manual 5 speed
WISH MATT WORKED ON TJ OR CJ OR YJ ... YOU KNOW THE REAL JEEPS ....
It's official, the cheap jeep shall hence fourth be known as "Squirrel".
Fitting, probably drives a little squirrely too
From factory there's also clips under the headlight assembly you have to take them out to get the bumper off normally
What about welding the hitch and adding more supports for the hitch, then make new bumper brackets for the stock mounting location and hook the bumper up to the hitch bar and stock mounting locations?

To save some money for that signal light just zip tie it tight. Then if and when it breaks then replace the whole thing
I'm working on a ZJ right now. I'm pretty excited about it. It's got a 4.0 and a ton of potential.
Squirrel battle! The cheap Jeep is looking good
did i hear, final fantasy 9 and halo mixed music with a sick beat added. hell yes!!!! Getting me motivated to do a cheap jeep project. keep up the awesome work

my first jeep was a 93 zj limited 5.2. i miss it alot. 😢

winch looks nice on it
Looking great. Good work. I will part out a few jeeps for each one I build to offset the cost and I count that on the budget. I think you have that right as well.
You should try to build a reinforcement bar on the wench mount.
I've never seen somebody put a factory bumper over a homemade bumper very very clever.🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
pretty good lookin jeep man

hey you can use the fender bolt to hold the front bumper on. I did on my zj and it wont fall off even when its hooked on a rock.
I freaking love your intros. LOL

Updates??? I love following this build, I've never been a ZJ, but you're giving me the bug...
also love what u did with that jeep .love winch on it .
im not a jeep guy at all but the way u cut the front bumper looks good. it really does. and at 1:34 whats the name of your cat
At 1:58 I Yelled out Nooo way, i didnt see that coming lol
Lmfao•••awesome when the bumper came off!!
Matt just so u know ur fog lights button was pushed in if u couldn't get them to shut off that's why that lever is how bright ur interior lights are the button to the right is to turn on and off ur fog lights just saying
Found the video with the mount plates. Thanks
buy a cheap small pair of vise grips, that's what I use on my jeeps to hold up the hatch. you can get them for like $3 at harbor freight
Maybe reinforcing that winch plate with an integral entry angle skid plate and a stinger to help protect the winch could be a way to have another recovery point.
I used an I beem for my front and back it filled the gaps pretty good.. I love your work bro....
Looking for a Pull-A-Part in my state, Pennsylvania. Apparently there's one coming to Pittsburg in 2016. All I have to do is wait.
Thanks! The best bleepin jeeper on Bleepin Jeep.
that music just killed me hahahahaha great video man!!!!!
fantastic music to a 100% pro -by the book- mechanic doing his thing :D
if you have flickering lights you have to solder the circuit board!
Great Video Man. I enjoyed the violin.

Lookin' good. I've thought about getting that same mount for the winch. Not many great options for bumpers on ZJ's unfortunately!
Epic video. Great job!
that serie is so funny, love it!
Good ideas on this build
ok so i have the same RC winch plate and i just want to know why it sits the winch offset....
That was a massive square!
Not all ZJ's have the drop down for the grill... ;)
Agreed, 93-95 has a flat bottom to the grill. I definitely like the bumper options available for the earlier ZJ vs the later ZJ
Nice job
Great work as always!
That intro was hilarious man
hey whats up buddy its me john from the 956 south Texas i never saw a mud video of the famous Comanche jeep truck u cut up hop i see it soon some day .keep in touch.
much like my 05 tacoma, just a few clips holding the cover on
Can you make more pull a part videos they're very cool
This jeep looks legit
get you some tow hooks that'll bolt up or weld there
Keep it up man, you make my day!
Can you put a link to that winch mount? It looks lile you could do a little bracing and welding amd come out with a decent bumper
Hey Matt @Bleepinjeep, if I were to send something for the cheap Jeep, is there a PO box I must send too?
Wow... I thought you had to take out the lights to change the bumper, which is my next project ! Rebuilding the same Jeep..
You suppose enough airflow with that winch in the way, jeeps already have overheating problems
Awesome! LOL! It's like Mr Bean with a Jeep. 😎
Can that little bit of medal under the radiator hold up to rocks hitting it or should it be replaced
Well done!
And I believe Charlie Chaplin is proud, as well!
Nice job, Matt! I'm wondering where the budget is at too now. That was a good size gray squirrel. Coulda been dinner! ;)
put hooks on top of winch plate instead of bottom

Matt looks like a day z character in that blue jacket
Lol🤣👍👍 that was Awesome just ripped it right off.
LIKE A BS JEEP BAND AID ... LOL
That was one BAS! Let's eat him! lol
I'm pissed they don't make those winch mounts for my WJ.
Have you ever mentioned in previous episodes what tires you intend to end up with? I'm sure you're probably wanting to get through some of the other items first and figure out what you have left to spend on tires. I'm a month and a half away probably from trying to figure out what resides behind the plastic on my KJ.
loved the intro lol
What kind of music is that it mite help work on my jeep your awesome 👌
at 1:23 what is that component he kicks off lol i always wished to do that to it ,, anything important?
evap canister, if you want to pass smog leave it on lol
ahh i did some research , seems its better to leave on due to fuel tank reasons aswell ,, vaccum leaks etc.
thank you
Plastic weld that light mount. Great vids.
Silly question by a new guy but how much different are the zj and wj as far as mods? They seem very similar
best intro yet
Nice the Cheap Jeep is coming along nicely! I didn't expect you to be able to get a winch for it! Good call on the Front bumper, making a custom one would have been too much for the Cheap Jeep, but after cutting the stock one it looks nice. How much budget do you have left?
What year is thing? 96+? My 94 bumper hooked in under the headlights so you have to take the grille out and the headlight and turn signal housings needless to say my bumper didn’t do back on haha
Matt can you make a video about charcoal canister delete? isn't that thing just for CA emissions?
Skl1cent I also would like to see a video on that. Will it trip the check engine light if I remove it
Whats the plans for the jeep? Plus would you make a video of off-roading it or something? I'm eager to see this thing move after watching it sit there.
