Your colour choice is spot on. While brown would not be my first choice to use as an edge colour, it works well. I do like granny squares, and this one is very pretty. Thank you for the tutorial.
You can make the square bigger by using a bigger hook but.. any bigger than that you will have to add some more rows of the pattern. Maybe increase the double crochet row that’s in the white. Do the corners the same and keep increasing . But you will then have a smaller flower in the middle and a bigger white area if that makes sense
