- The Houston Rockets have had an interesting offseason, including not giving extensions to young future stars Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun... but now we know why!
#rockets #nba #houstonrockets
Rockets played better when Al-P was out because the schedule got easy; everyone was tanking or resting. Blazers, Jazz, Wizards twice each and Bulls, Spurs. Then came the 5 game losing streak. 1:45

Give Sengun a max contract next year. Allow another team sign Jalen Green.
Other way around.
@@GoldCODMyti can't believe you all are thinking green is actually good
Boii 😂
Bruh the rockets had to spend the money on brooks and Fred it was non optional either they could use that money or just lose it for nothing. They had to spend the money THAT offseason
Exactly I thought this was common sense already, did people's short attention span fail them.lmao All the Rockets vets are paid just to mentor Rockets young core thought everyone already knew this from that big af cap space offseason.
ppl are dumb bro 😭
@@iambarryallenyeah plus brooks is good signing anyways and Fred’s is basically just a 2 year deal so not even bad. I’m not even a rockets fan but I understand how the nba works💀
They could have used their cap space to absorb contracts for future draft picks instead of signing UFA to long-term contracts. Look at how OKC and the Spurs used their caps. Now they're loaded with assets to trade in the future.
@@natekong3596 only long term really is brooks and that's around the 20mil a year ball park which isn't really much of a cap hit, the fvv signing is a 3 year deal but the third year is a team option so it's technically an expiring coming into this year they have allot more cap flexibility then you think.
Thanks for explaining it to non Rockets fans. Sengun will be signed next offseason for sure. He did an interview in Turkey and he has an immense understanding of why Houston is holding off on the extension.
He has understanding but he is also a bit sad for sure. He had better season than Cade Cunningham, Kuminga and Evan Mobley and yet he didn't get what he deserve.
@@HadeyanUtkan He's gonna get it anyway next season. Even if he extends this year, the new salary will be effective next year.
Smart move by the Rockets front office to maximize the options they could have.
@@HadeyanUtkanyeah there is no doubt that his situation is a bit unsettling to him. I think it is important Houston sits him down and makes sure he is aware of how much they value him and why they’re holding off tbh. Their hesitance is almost solely reliable upon his draft position.
As a Rockets fan, thank you for making a video about our team. 🥹🥹

rockets fan here, none of us actual fans that follow the team not the players (insanely stupid jalen and sengun stans) are worried about jalen and senguns extensions. the mindset has always been to follow suit in the way that the 76ers did with Maxey. Sengun is still getting his max, we’re just doing it a year later to make the money work better and make more sense
facts. you got that right. it's just some people dead set on trading one of the two. even before next season start. that's just crazy.
fr casual fans think Rockets have to choose between the 2 like be fr.lmao why tf would rockets give away a potential next jokic and next kobe duo. the fact this was their first full year under Udoka and already showed star potential. Rockets not letting these 2 go
@@iambarryallen fr the ceiling of this team is so high
Sengun is your best player that's why Maxey example not good, cuz 76ers need to fed Embid in terms of salary. That's why Maxey could've wait also Maxey's rookie deal were more expensive than Sengun's. Also jalen's rookie deal makes more money than Sengun's, Sengun's per year salary almost 1/3 of Green's and Maxey's.
So that's why he need to secure his future. Houston never acknowledge Sengun enough. It's a shame.
@@HadeyanUtkan reason why i think the 76ers example fits is because they have two top dogs (embiid and maxey) who can at any given night be the best player on the team, the same way both sengun and jalen can be the best for us on any given night. i haven’t given up on jalen just yet, if he can be consistent next year then the “maxey plan” would work really well for us
THANK YOU for explaining this. People make so many unnecessary rumors about them getting traded when the rockets worked so hard to get pieces like those 2. W video
Great video 🙂 a lot of casuals are unaware of the reason why the Rockets haven't given them their extensions yet. You broke it down very well
No way sengun is in a kd trade, maybe jalen. Trading sengun sets them back quite a bit
No, it doesn't they need a all around center, not an offensive player with no defense. They play better without him
@@reginaldgreen7001calling sengun with no defense is some high copium
@mustafafatihavc724 so what I'm saying is I'm lying 🤥. He slow, too.
@@reginaldgreen7001and jokic is slow
@@Ahmetmohammedrasheed they pick on him on defense too
i think the most interesting thing about us is our future with jalen specifically. it seems like the rockets have two options moving forward with him and it all depends on next season:
1: jalen still plays inconsistent and disappoints; if that happens, we’ll likely attempt to trade jalen and the suns picks plus other assets (not players preferably) for devin booker, and if the suns are still in a good spot we’d trade the suns picks and jalen for a shooting guard upgrade
2: jalen plays consistent, looks like his “march” self, and we’re able to keep him and retain him (not as a max) and use the suns picks to draft cheaper, “better fit” role player pieces to help the team improve
I'm with you. The problem is if he disappoints his value will tank. I'm of the opinion if he's playing good, we trade him for max value because we know what Jalen is lurking around the corner.
Imagine going from two guaranteed top 10 Nets picks to Late teens to 20s picks from the Suns lmao.
@@Mrdonjuliothewicked - if you're not looking at the big picture you wont get it. Houston doesnt have room to groom more rookies so those draft picks aren't particularly valuable. Those Suns picks in the late 2020s could become quite valuable especially when they decide to blow it up and trade Book/KD - that's what Stone is betting on. Also should be noted, BK wasn't tanking unless they got their picks back.
@@Mrdonjuliothewicked you're delusional if you think that the suns are gonna be good in the next 2-3 years. there is literally no logical way that core with a 37 year old KD stays together and no guarantee that they're even good this year lmaooo
@@InkIsPink ah yes cause two top ten picks are nowhere near as good as a pick in the 20s, and the possibility that the other just might be top 10.
It would be the most rockets-esque move to lose or trade Sengun. The rockets did not play "better" without him, and are NOT better if they lose him.
Tbh I never understood the fuss with Dillon brooks contract. He’s capable of scoring 17-18 while playing very good defense. 20 mil a year is nothing for a good starter
He never played more than 73 games in a season and he never played more than 31 minutes per game. So he ain't a "good starter" he is "fine starter" .
And his defense is bad now compare to his Grizzlies days. So nothing about Brooks worths 22M per year atm.
And VanVleet not 40M per year kinda player, he gets injured too much, he 17-4-8-1 with %41.6 FG in 36 minutes per game ain't 40M worth IMO. I mean Haliburton before Injury was an MVP candidate and his new deal is 51M per year for 5 years (not 3 like VanVleet).
Jalen Brunson's last year salary were 26K.
Maxey's new contract is 5 year 204M so roughly 40M per year like Vanvleet and yet Maxey is an all-star, way more efficient and also 5 year younger.
So I'll never get it how Houston shit spend it's money with Brooks + Vanvleet (together 63M per year lol) and yet try to convince their best player (Sengün) for not making max contract 1 more year and paid like a fucking role player !
@@HadeyanUtkan their contracts aren’t hard to get out of. FVVs contract is short. Also if the max is 60 ish then 22 for brooks fine
appriciate you shinning a positive light on the rockets, just a quick thing, the rockets where not better without alpi, worse defence and the point JG went nuclear was against a very soft part of our schedule.
Alpi is central piece of Rockets puzzle, the one who see Alpi getting trade shouldn't speak bball again.
Just curious when you say they played better with Sengun out of the lineup towards the end of the year , are you referring to around the same time frame Houston won like 10 games straight ? If so , look at the 10 teams that were played and ask if Sengun was ever the problem so to speak
As long as we don’t trade Sengun, we’re gonna be set if the young guys continue to take leaps (Amen, Jabari, Tari, Cam, Reed etc)
Green has to come good this season on a consistent basis otherwise we will need to trade him. If we do, then I think Booker has the potential to be a perfect fit for us 🚀
Reed and book is splash 3.0 lol
If i was the rockets I'd build around sengun, I'm super low on green ever reaching his potential as a first option and I prefer senguns fit with guys like jibari, eason and Thompson going forward more so then I like those guys with green.
With Reed, Green might actually be a better SG. I don't know why we tried him at the 1
@@RipliWitani Freddy goes where? Out?
@@Justfrank_0- that was always the plan, Freddy was just there to help us reach our ceiling and get some winning basketball in exchange for a huge bag. That’s why the team option was there on the years we extend Sengun and green, they were our cornerstones, although green hasn’t lived up to expectations
Sengun is trade asset. Athletic defensive center znd they set
@@xavierb9061 - we have defense at nearly every other position, I think we could get away with Sengun if he because a neutral defender. Tari and Amen are really good defenders, Jabari shines at times, had really good games against Giannis defensively, Reed is advertised to be atleast a decent defender although sometimes gambles at wrong times and gets blown by sometimes. Green has improved a bit on that end, if he stays, if we keep brooks, he’s pretty good most of the time outside of a few occasions if someone gets in his head or foul trouble. So we maybe could keep him and still be center piece of the franchise, this archetype of centers don’t come around as much and scoring heavy SG, so I think at the very least Sengun is more worth the gamble then green because green type of player is far more common
The rockets would be beyond stupid to trade away Şengün
I don't think it's a big deal. Look at the 76ers with Maxey.
I think Sengun gets the Max. Jalen I think they want to trade. He's not worth the max. They can either test free agency and match an offer or trade him before then
Hell no they wont trade Jalen. He was already doing Steph look-away 3s last season showing glimpses of his star power. Are people forgetting Udoka developed Tatum and Brown, now it's Jalen and Sengun. Rockets keep BOTH. FVV and Brooks not gonna be there long
@@iambarryallen What are you talking about? Jalen's last 10 games 3pt 85/24.
@@iambarryallen dude he played all season and his FG% is %41 and his 3pt% is %33.7 what look away 3s ? couple of games ain't define entire season. Green needs to play more efficient and has to be more "teamwork" oriented. Other than trying flashy stuff for himself. In terms of efficiency rating (PER) Green was the 11st of his team with 14 PER.
That's terrible for a young prospect starter kinda player.
In terms of TS( trueshooting) he is 15th of the team. In terms of box plus-minus he is 14th
I also don't think they'll trade Jalen, they'll trade Sengun cuz Idoka wants a Horford like center and he is racist against europeans. But no way Sengün and Green is "Tatum and Brown".
If Sengun is Tatum then Jalen is Marcus Smart at a very very bad day.
Silliest foresight I ever heard! So, you think they're gonna trade their best player... And that's based on Houston's good run on weak teams while Alperen was injured...Brilliant deduction...
JG ->30M, Alpi->16M is not fair. They have many options on forward position on roster but they don't have that many options on pivot position. Therefore they have to keep Alpi. If they don't, they'll be sorry in the near future.
I still don't think the Rockets will be competing until they have a direction. Pelicans have been experiencing this issue. All that talent with no direction...
Dont compare Rockets to Pelicans eww.lmao Rockets have a clear af direction. Rockets fans clearly see this, stop commenting on issues youre not really familiar with. Cause for us Rockets fans the management already cleared the whole process and we're now just waiting for young core development. Sorry bro but Houston dont get stuck in mediocrity for long like Pelicans. Rockets always contenders this is the first time they actually "tanked" after Harden left. Dont compare poverty franchise to a state with literal Spaceships.
What are you talking about lmao the rockets have a clear direction with their young core and Ime
Great video. If I close my eyes I hear Kermit. And Kermit and the rockets….it don’t get any better.
Thank you for the video and showing us love
Sengun is my favorite player in the league...love his skill set and style...coming from a Michigan man
Hey bro, just wanted to randomly say that I love this channel. I like how much it has evolved
rockets aint gona pay van fleet the 45 mil in 2025
Yeah
the thing with sengun and green is chemistry. sengun is an old-school post player and will be best utilized with shooters. and green is an interior player too, he’s best effective around the rim, so he’s most effective with stretch-5. so regardless of how hood they are, they have no chemistry.
and as a basketball fan from türkiye i really dont understand why sengun is in trade talks, he’s constantly exceeding expectations each year and besides talent he has a great character
This team will never make the Playoffs until they trade Jalen Green
First time I watched you and it took just 1.45 when you said Rockets played better when Al-P was out I just closed it
Casuals needed this video
Only casuals call people casuals
As a casual Rockets observer and salary cap non-knower, you're right. Pretty interesting stuff of having to wait for an extension to make the money work better, instead of rushing because they already know they want to keep them.
Alpy hasn't taken off like most Rockets fans like myself would have expected, there's been lots of talk about trading one of the two major pieces on our team being JG and Alpy. In my opinion we will get rid of Sengun to bring in major pieces and vets possibly in KD etc. We are in an awesome spot right now and its great being a clutchfan as of late
The Rockets are in such a weird situation. It seems like they have to choose between Jalen Green and Alpren Sengun
I would Choose Sengun, and grab either Durant or Booker from Houston when that inevitably falls apart, using Green and other assets to help sweeten the deal
Facts. Green will never pan out to be a Superstar. Segun can be an anchor piece like Jokic or Sabonis.
@@PrimordialBeing360 I dont think he can be for Houston at least.. its not a talent problem its an attitude/ego problem that i think only gets solved (potentially) from him being traded
@@MavenFadebro Durant is old asf, why pick him up when your a young team
Sengun is young and has enough potential too pick him over green, it’s easier to find a guard than a 7ft player that can play and be impactful. Trade green for picks or get solid player on a great contract for him. Sheppard is looking like there future anyways
Alperen earning only 5,4m usd is criminal! 🤬

Biggest mistake if Houston trade Şengün.
Bro try using spill supressor either in premiere (ultra key) or AE.. too much green around your edges
Rockets big chance play playoffs or play-in tournament atmosphere next season 💪🔥💪
there is no explanation how Alpi gets the 11th highest salary in the team for one more year. What do you think his motivation will be like when rookies or his subs get more than the double than what he gets ? It is only okay in the scenario if rockets want to trade him anyways
You must understand the the rockets not extending him now does NOT delay WHEN he gets his money. Whether or not Sengun is extended today or next summer, he will still receive his money at the same time, that doesn’t change. If he is extended today, he will still be annually making less money than all those guys this season…
Here the deal with Jalen and Sengun as a rockets fan they are in the same boat regarding the contracts but the situation is different.
For Jalen it’s simple he doesn’t really deserve the max. He just been too inconsistent the past three years for us. The talent is there obviously we seen what he can do. But he just can’t be bad for two thirds of the season and be great for the last third.
Jalen has to be consistent really this year is a make it or break year for him with us. If he shows he can be consistent then he here with us for the long haul and he get his money.
If he is inconsistent this upcoming season the rockets are definitely going to trade him during the deadline to get some value back for him or maybe they do it in the off season to land a star maybe Devin Booker if the Suns lay a huge egg this season
For Sengun listen he already an all star level player. The Rockets are doing what the Sixers did with Maxey they are waiting a year so that they have enough cap space to sign Sengun or another star level player.
If Sengun plays the same as last year or he ups his game and be a top 40 player he will get his money. I just don’t know if it’s going to be from us or somebody else. Either way Sengun going to get paid.
So yeah that’s the situation from our two players from the 2021 draft class
Thank you for making this video so people will stop saying the Rockets want to trade Sengun. Most Rockets fans know this - the only reason this gets discussed is for click bate. Similarly, the Rockets have no interest in Durant, Booker yes, but not Durant. Its all click bate or people just trying to create news when there is nothing else to talk about.
Here I thought that the Rockets' FO just wanted to give the Sengun-Green duo one more year to see if they can truly mesh well and lead the team to wins. I believe that they can, but we'll see.
Thanks for listening to my tweet. I feel like louisville will sqeak out a win over miami but will lose to kentucky so i think 9-3 is about where i predict them
Cash out with Green to get a more established wing. Was really hoping on Mikal Bridges before he was traded but now, if the could find someone who can fill that same role, they’re gonna be really good for a really long time
Don't need no more wins got tons
Houston need to be patient when it comes to handing out these extensions. If you want a deep roster then you really can only have three max guys on your payroll. So if Houston give two max deals to Green and Sengun then maybe three guys from Sheppard, Whitmore, Thompson and Jabari will have to go. So it's better to let everyone play this season and take their time on this decision. They're restricted do they only have to max them out if another team does. If they did do it now and those four guys absolutely ball out next season then that's a problem.
Hopefully, Şengün won't forget this disrespect in the next season and won't sign with you, instead, he'll go to a well-managed team.
The Rockets IMO won the draft.
The Rockets have been clever with their contracts . Sheppard looks like he can handle 25+ mins as a rookie but who's place does he take? FVV is a great role model for Sheppard and this looks like a great fit in the long term
When he said that they were better at the end of the season without Alpi, I lost my interest. They had the easiest schedule after he got injured and most of the opponents were tanking. Basic basketball knowledge!
If Wagner gets 50 mil sengun is getting somewhere close to that
the disrespect last season against alpy was real, he has some solid mentality to endure this bs but here we are, he is one hell of a center but he ain't getting what he deserves and all I want to see these days is sengun moving to another west team and dunking on the rockets to let them see what they missed
I know you lengthen the videos for monetary reasons but this video was just repeating a 3 minute explanation 3 times using different language.

So i would look to see within next year to trade all of them and Steven Adams. that would be a lot of money off the books, and a nice young core set up for success for the next 10 seasons.
"I had criticisms of their signing las offseason." Goes on to explain why those signings were actually incredible. It's almost like these youtube basketball guys aren't nearly as smart as they seem to think they are.
The Rockets payroll is really confusing, a "rebuilding" team is paying $130M to someone who isnt a long term fit w/ the team,
Reed Sheppard is already making more than 10 other players on the roster,
and their main attraction, Jalen Green has comparable raw stats to a guy like Cam Thomas...

I don't think you pay as much attention to the financial aspect of the NBA. There is a floor for the salary that every team must pay thus the contract for Fred. Especially because the last year of the deal is non guaranteed and the extension for Sengun and Green will be given next year. As for Reed making more money than the other players it's because he is the number three pick in the draft. That's why he makes more than even Sengun because the higher the draft picks the higher their base salary.

Bringing in Durant at the age of 35 is a solution for long term success? What are the Rockets hope for? I hope they don't think they will get the chip just bringing in KD and trading Sengun for clearing space in the paint for KD to take j's and Green to try some 2k shit. Consistency in both ends of the floor gets you in playoffs and ultimately a championship. Alpi showed what is wrong with the team already. They can't cash in those open 3's. He would be averaging nearly a triple double if they hit those.
For those of you including the maker of this channel that don’t watch the Rockets closely they are going to use this season to figure out who exactly they want to keep. They are not winning a championship next season so there’s no reason to make rash moves. Jalen Green I like, but he is inconsistent. Sengun is going to be signed in all likelihood. Jalen is good IF he scores 24 points every night and not 30 one night and 10 points the other.

Starting off the video with some Jabari Smith hype. Let's go!
I hope sengun will get his max somewhere else no need for them

Why this trash jg is getting 12m while sengun has 5m in 2024 season. The world is not fair :(
What you didn't talk about is that Sengun and Green can also sign the qualifying offers in 2025. Then become a complete free agent in 2026. Then can leave the Rockets for nothing. Obviously the probability of this is not high, but its a possibility, especially if the Rockets don't plan to offer maxes to Green/Sengun and they get mad and want to leave Houston. Another thing to consider is as they get close to restricted free agency their trade value drops significantly. Finally, if you go all the way and have Green/Sengun sign a max with another team in restricted free agency and you match that offer, what you get is a Ayton situation where you're paying a max to a player that doesn't want to play for you and might be playing mid intentionally to be traded. Basically there is a reason NBA teams offer the max, and its to make the player happy above all, because any other plan makes players mad and not want to play for your team anymore
you know what else is a possibility? none of this happening & they get paid next year because the rockets have more money next year.

@@judoka. Yes but that is risky, lets say Sengun gets injured again, are they still giving him the max? What if Green is still inconsistent next year? I know I'm going to get eaten alive in the comments - because nobody but Rockets fans is watching this - but you're massively overrating them. This team is nowhere near contending. Their win projection is more or less where it should be. They're a young 2k team. They have a lot of young talent but they don't have the superstar power, and unless one of their three young core guys (I like Sheppard but his ceiling is nowhere near a superstar) massively outplays their projections, they never will be contenders unless they bring one in. They're a play-in team with the potential to move up in the next few years, and that's it.
Lifelong Rockets fan from the late 80's here. You are absolutely correct. The way this team is constructed right now won't make any difference in the super deep Western Conference. A lot of moves still need to be made to be anything close to being a contender.

We won 41 games last year in a loaded west and that’s with Jalen being bad for most of the season.
Also we didn’t have Tari Eason either who is one of our most impactful players.
If Jalen is consistent, Sengun does his thing Amen continues to grow in his second year. Jabari takes a year 3 leap along with Cam, Reed and Steven Adams off the bench plus Fred and Dillion.
We can definitely be a 46 win team and maybe we can win 50 games.
The Clippers are taking a step back. The Warriors might take a step back they have Steph but not much else unless Kuminga takes a huge jump.
The Suns if they disappoint this year KD and possibly Booker are going to ask out.
The other teams have questions themselves.
@@jalenjohnson0339 your team has the least amount of talent plus the same amount of questions as the rest. If Jalen is consistent, if sengun doesn't get traded if Javari takes a leap if Reed can be impactful with so many other guys who want/need the ball. You're not winning 50 games that's delusional. Every West team has gotten better minus the clippers and technically Denver but they'll be fine.
@@sg5ever I’m well aware we have our own question marks but your totally disregarding the young talent we have on this team also not to mention we have a top 10 coach in the league in Ime.
Amen was one of the best rookies last year and Cam was productive and they are going into their second year GM getting better. We getting Tari back who one of the most impactful players in the league.
I already told you about Sengun Jalen and Jabari
We have one of the best young cores in the league.
Us winning 50 games is possible if we pull off a couple of upsets but we can defintely win 46-47 wins
We are defintely a playoff team/play in team if you think we going to be like the Spurs Blazers or Jazz then I don’t know what to tell you 😂
@@jalenjohnson0339 you are delusional if you think you're winning 50 games. Your young talent means nothing when you don't have a top 50 player in the entire league on your roster. One of those young guys is not gonna get playing time. Van leet, Brooks, Green, Jabari, sengun, Adams, Amen, Cam? Tari? What about Reed? You're basically saying your going to be as good as the Mavs were last year. That's idiotic. You can probably count on 40 wins again this year
@@sg5ever Reed going to be good for us he might not play enough minutes at the start of the season. Also 40 wins ok bro keep at it with the disrespect 😂 but it is what it is I can’t change your mind your just going to see this up coming season
Rockets could easily lose Green and Sengun if they aren't paying them the max. Which would make them so much worse
Rockets have more chemistry with sengun out. Trade him keep Green
