Devin-- first time on your channel. I liked how you broke down things without really skipping any points. It's weird to see these days. Almost foreign. You were concise and you kept a clear train of thought throughout the video. Informative without being too boring and your reasoning for a lot of what you say can be backed up. Enjoyed the vid. Subbed.
I agree 100% with everything Nash said. One thing I think he is overlooking though. I think part of Mixer's whole strategy is to hopefully foster more homegrown talent due to these acquisitions. What I mean by that, is if it were purely about gaining immediate market share through increased viewership, they wouldn't be snagging up the largest creators 1 by 1. They would snatch up like 5-6 of the top 10 all at once. What grabbing 1 at a time, ONLY the TOP streamers, does is make other up and coming streamers or brand new streamers think about joining Mixer as their first choice. "Oh man, Ninja and Shroud are two of the most successful streamers, and they are on Mixer. I should stream on Mixer too." Its not just about viewer or membership acquisition, its about the snowball affect of talent acquisition on more talent acquisition. Because, ultimately, that's the only way Mixer will start to compete. They need their own Ninja's and Shroud's, not just recycled superstars from other platforms.
Bro, your explanations are always super informative and really helpful to people in the gaming industry. Even though I knew you were a team owner a long time ago, I only subbed after the videos you put out about the fate of Optic Gaming. In that short time, you've amazed me with the amount of detail and thought you put into videos! You deserve so many more subs than other "gaming news" channels because you know what you're doing. Keep up the good work!
Devin, I don't know what secret tech you have for youtube videos but I have already seen this video and subscribed to your channel and it still keeps showing up in my recommended. How have you unlocked the secret to the algorithm?
I couldn't watch passed the part where he breaks down hours streamed... That's almost exactly a full time job -- I don't get paid for lunch, I put in double time overtime hours and I don't make what some of these streamers make in 2 months in a whole year and work more hours a week doing hard labor. The streamers moving to mixer doesn't mystify me. It's a lump sum guaranteed as opposed to the fickle nature of subs. Anyone could retire on what ever that deal is worth.
Yeah its gross, but if you look at where these streamers like shroud started, they generally are either worst off then your average person working a average job and potentially even completely reliant on others for their survival for far longer then someone working a normal job and again with no guarantee that they will ever make better their average income. Not to mention both shroud and ninja were professional games so they were probably playing games longer then you work every day in very high stress environments. Not saying that you don't have it hard or they have it easy, but every job has downsides and upsides. In a lot of cases, whenever their is big upsides there is even bigger downsides.
@@demon3203 What are you talking about worse off, if he quit streaming now 3-4 generations of his family could live without working a day in their lives.
I was saying when they FIRST STARTED STREAMING as in before they were famous as fuck making a shit ton of money. They took a risk and likely lived dependent on others for way longer then your average person would. I'm basically just trying to tell that guy that you shouldn't feel sick with how much money he makes, because he made loads of sacrifices to get where he is at now. He put in his hours and it payed off for him great, but its not like the guy had zero struggles and was just handed a shit ton of money without every working for it.
Yeah my average work week is 50-60 hours. Some weeks are 80+ hours. I like shroud and all, but it's hard for a guy who works an outside job for this many hours to feel any kind of sympathy for someone who "has to stream" for 8 or more hours a day.
Every job has its struggles. You work hard but ALL of your money will be there. All of his income could just stop and could have just stopped long ago. He could of never got famous or made even average income, but it all worked out for him so that is great. Just understand that regardless of where you work and how you work there i will be good and bad things. Often times the better the pay the more risks you have to take.

I don't see it happening. DrDisrespect in comparison to these other streamers isn't nearly as marketable and isn't as advertiser friendly either with his content, his acts of rage and crap talk, his Twitch bathroom livestreaming incident, and potentially his past with his affair and perceived negative personality outside of his streams (although I disagree with that). To top it off, especially if TimTheTatMan and other big twitch streamers leave the platform, he'll be the only top streamer left, potentially increasing viewer counts due to lack of any other streamer of notoriety being present on the platform, as well as his known ego (being in character or not, "get em' outta here"). I just don't see it happening.
I definitely think the time is a huge factor and agree with you there. Shroud even said he's happy with the move because it'll allow him more time to upload content on RUclips and elsewhere while having security and stability, as you noted.
They need to buyout all the mid tier streamers that average like 300-1000 concurrent viewers and not the real popular streamers. The issue with popular streamers like myth and pokimane and Dr disrespect is that people just watch them cuz their popular theres no real loyalty, their viewership in a way is inflated. Example. Im on twitch, i see dr disrespect streaming so i click. Im not gonna go over to mixer to watch dr disrespect. No offense hes a great content creator and funny, but ive never had any significant interaction with dr. Disrespect. i believe the beauty of streaming is not just watching people frag out on a fps or necessarily enjoying their content, but more the interactions that happen on a personal level with the streamer and the viewership. That's what people pay for. Im a gamer, im an average gamer with a PC, and I believe that example is a very common one with the majority of us gamers who are the backbone of streaming and twitch. Now take for example a streamer of "insert game here", that has 400 concurrent viewers. That streamer has a loyal fanbase that comes and watches his/her streaming daily not cuz it's popular but because they are legitimately loyal. That small time streamer has die hard loyal fans. I would follow that stream onto mixer or anywhere they go. You get enough of those streamers you'll have thousands pouring into mixer. I'm sure a six figure salary is solid for a streamer with under a 1000 concurrent viewers. Microsoft would just have to do their homework and find the right streamers, but looking at the directory and spending some time on twitch it's not hard to pick them out.
Very true. In case of shroud though I think it will be different from the Ninja scenario as shroud does have a pretty loyal fanbase. Atleast 15k people who will definitely change over. It depends from person to person in the high tier scene.
But no mid level streamers going to risks to jumpship.....they are more calculated with their move , risk lost of viewrships especially subs and prime.Twitch still the market leader for streaming... Microsoft won't splurge a lot of money just to bring streamers with sub 1k viewers....Mixer's intentions for acquired Ninja and Shroud only for their marketing/branding..to be honest, i didn't even know Mixer exist till news regarding Ninja' s joining Mixer as exclusive streamer.
@Mootch i only 'passing by "dr disrespect/shroud ' channels, just to see what their up to , and switch channels...i like Pubg very much, i spent much more time to streamers like Choctaco ( u can learn one or two from his gameplay, and explaining on the fly why he did what he did in the game), Kaymind, pro pubg player, bery enggaging with his viewer with his sick play.etc.etc.
wrong, while like you said a small time streamer has like 400-1000 loyal followers, shroud has like at least 10 to 20 thousand loyal followers. How do you think he got big? So your entire point is wrong. A popular streamer will always have a bigger loyal followship than a small streamer.

Mixer have got shroud in the best possible time too with Modern Warfare being released as he's is one of the best to watch on it! Very smart move by mixer, plus if it doesn't work out for them it is pocket change to the company what they are paying them and will easily make the money back 👍.
People with normal jobs and freelancers. Signed can mean multiple things, but in this case it means exclusivity to a platform. Ninja and Shroud have signed a contract with Microsoft to exclusively stream on mixer and in turn get paid by Microsoft. From what I have seen, Twitch also has contracts with some larger streamers that go beyond "partnered', most of those ask for exclusivity but they get a larger cut of ad revenue or subscriptions. Free agents are streamers who are not locked to a platform. They can stream simultaneously on Twitch, You Tube, Mixer, Facebook and while they might have a contract with a company that allows them to earn money from streaming, they are not limited from other contracts.
No.. he's going off his perspective and doing research. Which is stupid 😂 why waste his time. We all know Twitch has issues and we all knew he made million off the his deal.. enough said

@@bekeex and? Just because it's a big company does not mean they will throw this kind of unrealistic amounts of money on a streamer. Realistically, they will not be able to make their money back if they are throwing these sums on Shroud and Ninja.
I think the second step in Mixer business strategy is to get esports events on their platform with better ad rates or revenue for the events ORG. These way they will increase their visibility because esports brings a tone of views and they can keep it brand friendly for those higher CPMs.
exactly, same with TFue. both of them will stay on twitch. i think the biggest deal outside of those two, ninja and shroud, would be Poki. they take the queen of twitch as well as a few more of the top 15 brand friendly dudes it's a problem for twitch. the question i have is would ALL of the Offline tv crew go too or would it just be Poki?
Kharmatos13 poki would be a steal, however the issue for Mixer isn’t getting all of the big talent, they can throw money at that problem all day long, what they need is the amateur steamer mindshare so people think “I want to start streaming” *opens mixer* Right now everyone thinks twitch and that is what mixer needs to change.
@@Kharmatos13 I predict mixer will start to grab more variety/variety gaming streamers. Steamers that are known for their personality/feel rather than a specific game like Ninja being known exclusively for fortnite
And how exactly is Doc bringing problems? He talks whats on his mind and he is very aware what situation the whole market is in. Not to mention he's said in the past (troll or not troll) "I'll leave twitch if Shroud leaves" so that just shows he does think about it, we all do. Who wouldnt want to have more time to spend time with ur wife and daughter and get a similar type of income. Regarding Poki, i highly doubt she would move because of the daily interactions she has with twitch streamers; they would have to move a lot of smaller streamers that are friend if pokis to move her i reckon
@@Profpartytime You completely misread what i said. I didn't say anything about Doc going anywhere, I said about him getting a 'deal'. Like i said, he brings more problems than he is worth. There are about 8 other people in front of Doc and probably people behind him that mixer would take a shot with before risking their young brand on someone like doc.
This shit been going on longer then IRL has existed. A few "Boobie Streamers" back in the day would have friends or even boyfriend play and records game play that they would run on stream and pretend to be playing the game. While obviously showing cleavage and maybe jumping up and down when they get donations/subs. What we have now is just those "boobie Streamers" that everyone said was not an issue pushing the fold a little more every year and now 5+ years later we have what is currently twitch. Where half the women on twitch have patreons with nudes and other "lewd" stuff that people can get from giving them money... A good portion of them have had showed to much at least 1 or done something that CLEARLY break twitch TOS and get away with it...
Mixer is shit. I stream there daily and it screws up so much. Plus these big names coming to Mixer is just going to ruin chances for up and coming streamers
@@_NightmareVideo That isn't how it works. Big names bring more viewers into mixer and then you smaller streamers have a bigger chance of growing their stream because of that. Unless you are exactly like ninja or shroud then you guys aren't directly competing with each other. You have your own niche and perks about that make you different to watch then ninja or shroud.
Hey Devin, I thought your video was very insightful. I think the only hard part is truly assessing the viewer retention with only the numbers like the ones from this article. As twitch has higher hours per user on average, as likely people spend more time on twitch per visit. I think finding some area to look at market share with that aspect, as they're in 2 different positions on life-cycle. Will allow you to better examine market share and the impacts mixer receives from their acquisitions of influencers.

You just have to know who to be friends with. I remember getting a call from a partnered streamer friend having an anxiety attack due to Twitch's favoritism. She streams regularly, maintains her numbers well but because she's not friends with any Twitch employee she is not being compensated. When she found out this girl who isn't streaming much, isn't hitting her numbers is being compensated she cried a river. As much as I love Twitch, the bias and mismanagement is too much. Mixer is bringing something fresh and a more gaming oriented platform. An escape away from those almost naked people that never get banned but is bannable according to Twitch rules.
"I know exactly how much they make but I won't disclose that" How do you know that? Are you their accountant? A lot of this is just arbitrary opinions presented as facts.
Shroud said today he wants to work on his brand more. He also said mixer has a less toxic fan base and thinks he will get stream sniped less. Yo thank you for going into detail on the subject man I love it
thank you!
Subbed.
Love the content you put out man! So much value
Goes without saying but fantastic analysis, truly enjoy your take on the industry as a whole. Looking forward to your next one Mr Nash
Keep up the good work!

thank you! I appreciate the message
They need a big name VR Player for the upcoming XBox VR.

If Mixer buys out Dr Disrespect, twitch is over.
@Mootch xQc isn't brand friendly. Mixer wouldn't want him
I love how he gave himself props at the end for how good a job he did breaking down...well...just basic concepts of capitolism and economics.

Mixer have got shroud in the best possible time too with Modern Warfare being released as he's is one of the best to watch on it! Very smart move by mixer, plus if it doesn't work out for them it is pocket change to the company what they are paying them and will easily make the money back 👍.
It was definitely planned lol
Finally something to crack the whip for Twitch
Holy shit first YT vid I’ve seen. Big brain I’m hooked. Always seen you on trains podcast but never seen your content.
Devin can you break down who is “signed” and who is a “free agent” and what importance each one has?
We all know Twitch has issues and we all knew he made million off the his deal.. enough said

LaylaEatsTrees what info? His only quality is being good at video games.

I think the second step in Mixer business strategy is to get esports events on their platform with better ad rates or revenue for the events ORG. These way they will increase their visibility because esports brings a tone of views and they can keep it brand friendly for those higher CPMs.
After Ninja went I said shroud was next and I always say this... Doc will NEVER get a deal from Mixer, he brings more problems than he is worth
exactly, same with TFue. both of them will stay on twitch. i think the biggest deal outside of those two, ninja and shroud, would be Poki. they take the queen of twitch as well as a few more of the top 15 brand friendly dudes it's a problem for twitch. the question i have is would ALL of the Offline tv crew go too or would it just be Poki?
Kharmatos13 poki would be a steal, however the issue for Mixer isn’t getting all of the big talent, they can throw money at that problem all day long, what they need is the amateur steamer mindshare so people think “I want to start streaming” *opens mixer*
Right now everyone thinks twitch and that is what mixer needs to change.
People talk and talk about Mixer not screwing around with terms and conditions and no grey areas and wanting them to be for gaming and to be stern, cool, well that also applies to being racist and going into bathrooms filming with children present. Like i said, he brings more problems than he is worth. There are about 8 other people in front of Doc and probably people behind him that mixer would take a shot with before risking their young brand on someone like doc.
How do you know of what they make? Interesting 😮
I also think its because mixer is a better platform, im sure some of the streamers are tired of the irl section getting away with all it does, etc.
@@demon3203 kinda made my point
Mixer is shit. I stream there daily and it screws up so much. Plus these big names coming to Mixer is just going to ruin chances for up and coming streamers
@@_NightmareVideo That isn't how it works. Big names bring more viewers into mixer and then you smaller streamers have a bigger chance of growing their stream because of that. Unless you are exactly like ninja or shroud then you guys aren't directly competing with each other. You have your own niche and perks about that make you different to watch then ninja or shroud.
@@demon3203 That's how I'm trying to do it. But I feel like us unknown get scrubbed out because people are mostly watching the big names

*Cough cough* They do pay streamers BUT the streamers need to maintain a certain amount of views, hours per stream. Sadly only a few select partnered streamers get this chance.
