The versions in Trunks's timeline killed a LOT of people. These Androids just stole a van, road-tripped, robbed a department store in the boonies, and threw a cop car into a mountain, lol. Even when 18 fought Vegeta on the highway, Vegeta was the only one killing bystanders 🤣
What's insane is when Cell eventually says "You have no idea how many dead men are behind me." it actually pales in comparison to what the Androids did in the Future timeline. Cell only went on his rampage for a couple of... days? Weeks?
The Androids did their, and I quote, "Great Destroyer Schtick" for 17 years. That is A LOT of bodies.
They did kill Gero though...but he was a villain so it's fine

The creator of Dragonball specified that Cell's panic was genuine and he dodged the center of the beam, if he didn't do that the Final Flash would have killed

IIRC he also said 'that' Final Flash was the single strongest attack in Z. the overall power of the characters would get stronger later, but the Final Flash, like the Kamehameha and Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon, are all chargeable attacks, so you could sit there charging them for a bit to hit above your weight class power level-wise like Piccolo did vs Raditz.
in this case Cell let Vegeta charge it as much as he wanted and Vegeta put nearly all he had into it.

@@somerandomnon-importantper3219 the spirit bomb is kind of an odd case because it's not a direct damage dealer.
it still does environmental damage when it goes off but not nearly on the same scale as the beams, otherwise the one used on Buu or even the one used on Frieza should have been planet busters.

They know he has Piccolo's cells, but due to Frieza's race's ability to survive horrific injuries, such as when he survived being cut apart and blown up, he can regenerate from things even Piccolo is incapable of

Imagine how bad Future Trunks has to feel about all of this. He watches Gohan fall in battle. His mom doesn't tell him anything, and when he travels back in time to save the past he finds out that no one has any sense of self preservation and his father is the prince of d-bags.

So many issues with the Android/Cell Saga... it's the fault of heroes Trunks admired. Imagine how sooner this story would end if they didn't play with their food.
Incidentally, Akira Toriyama confirmed that had Cell taken the Final Flash head on, it might have actually killed him.
Kinda like Piccolo charging up against Raditz, you can kill someone much stronger than you if you charge an attack enough.
Yeah people forget what the Final Flash actually is. It’s an attack that when charged up allows Vegeta to hit SIGNIFICANTLY above his normal output, the attack is just that potent, especially the one Cell let him charge up like this.

Actually, it's love in this case! As Krillin said, "If you don't, everyone you know and love is going to die! INCLUDING HER!" And that's when he realized it, hence the "...Oh" and dropping the remote.
Yeah, I dunno why you're surprised either. Krillin and Vegeta both currently embody the two main "this is why we can't have nice things" aspects of people.
And here we have one of the main reasons why I was glad you watched these two episodes together. TFS said in their creator commentary that in their minds, Cell reaches his perfect form at the same moment Gohan goes Super Saiyan. They wanted to show that at the end of episode 51, but it never really worked out the way they wanted, so they did it this way.
And this. This is the moment you truly see peak Vegeta. At the time, Yoriyama himself said that the Final Flash was the single strongest blast in the entire series.
However, Cell was planning on letting it hit him dead on. Then the "OH SHIT-" happens, because he realized if he did that he'd actually die. He dodged at the last second to only take a partial hit.
Nope, they didn't. The only ones who knew up until now were 16, 17, and 18.
And now, I look forward to your coming reactions as Perfect Cell surgically pulls the fight out of everyone via psychological warfare. It's only getting better from here!
Piccolo also knew about the regeneration part. Cell didn't even know that he could do that before seeing Piccolo do it.
The thing that it’s worth noting is that Cell had to move from Vegeta’s final flash. If Cell stood his ground, he would have been destroyed beyond the ability to regenerate. Vegeta wasn’t as weak as Cell thought and by powering up could produce an attack stronger than Cell.
Well yeah, and it makes sense. Is cell obviously stronger? For sure but to stand and take a focused all out attack from someone on Vegeta's level is insane but then again no one knew about final flash other then Vegeta himself. He assumed a full power big bang or galick gun was coming..no no.
Yet half of goku's power had vegeta awestruck and gohan was stronger once he got serious so it kinda doesn't make sense.
You are thinking of the cyborgs from trunks time-line these are different ones since they are following multiverse theory

I think you're going to relate a lot with Goku's impression of Perfect Cell.
Actually, in this scenario Goku wouldn’t have let cell become perfect just for the reason that he wouldn’t have sacrificed the androids to cell.
Goku will allow opponents to reach their maximum power but he will not do so if it requires a sacrifice of a life.
Keep in mind, Krillin is a very experienced fighter. So it's not really surprising that he can tell when someone isn't going all out.
It's a reprise of the letter "E", there are 2 e's in "perfect", the first e is for "extinction" and the second is for "eccentric"
fun fact: Lani, Kaiser, and Taka's headcanon is that Gohan turned Super Saiyan the exact same time that Cell went Perfect

Goku only doesn't let people get hurt bc he wins, or time travleing saves him, many a times gokus wamting a good fight would cost tons of lives based on his decision

Actually confirmed by Toriyama that if he hadn't slightly dodged, he would have been vaporized. Was a nice detail. Goes to show that Vegeta wasn't a slouch, even though he was totally outmatched. He had a "chance", at victory. But Cell moved 😂
Yup, that was the single strongest blast in the series to that point, and for a while afterwards, too. Shame Vegeta isn’t allowed to actually win and defeat the main villain
38:10 The crazy thing is, the author/creator actually mentioned once that if Cell hadn't dodged Vegeta's Final Flash at the last second, it would've actually killed him. Cell was having a bit of a Vegeta moment, standing there and trying to take it, but came to his senses at the last second. xD

Goku would definitely not have allowed Cell to power up. Not because Goku doesn't want to fight Cell at his full power but because it requires him to kill someone else. Which is not cool with Goku.

That scream when 18 throws herself at cell gives me absolute chills, every time. The voice actress nailed it on that one.

That P.E.R.F.E.C.T song, the Final Flash and the “Wait for Goku” line are some of my favourite moments of the whole series. Honestly the whole rest of the show from 51 onwards is my favourite run of the series. They’re on the absolute top of their game for this!
10:10 You might be thinking of Trunks's future. These guys grabbed a truck and drove around. Vegeta did all the killing during their first fight. They only killed Dr. Gero.
29:49 Would he, though? When Goku does that, he's got some back-up plan or reason. Let Frieza power up, cause he was gonna shoot down Gohan running away with Piccolo, so that kept him busy (also away from the whole dragon being summoned deal).
It was still inadvertent man slaughter and would be charged but I don't remember if that happened in the manga or it was just anime filler
I assume the second comment is about Goku letting Cell power up? Yeah, Goku would never do that in this situation. Sure, Goku loves a good fight, but he wouldn't let somebody get hurt to give himself that good fight. And pretty sure absorbing 18 counts as hurting her.

Counter point... Goku let this all happen. He wanted Cell to become perfect to challenge Gohan.
Goku didn't let Frieza power up to keep him busy or away from the Dragon. He did it because he wanted a better fight, and hoping to demoralize him. So that's not a great example of him doing better.
Can we please stop trying to make goku some moral superhero?

Just to give context to the reason the footage existed for TFS to play with, in the actual series Goku turns Super Saiyan while training Gohan in the Chamber on Gohan's request. Goku's focus at the beginning is entirely on getting Gohan up to his level; ie, getting him to transform. Like Gohan said last episode, it's already been 4 months and they haven't gotten anywhere. Gohan practically begs Goku to stop holding back, to come at him as a Super Saiyan, partially because he feels responsible for stalling Goku's own development, but also because he can feel that he needs something to push himself past the bottleneck. When Gohan catches Goku's 'Super Saiyan blast' in the actual series, his thoughts are of anger and frustration toward himself.

Episode 52 and 53, my personal favorites as Vegeta finally gets a bit of comeuppance and then Trunks steps up. Oh and I cannot wait to see your reaction to two of the best and coldest lines of the entire series. No spoilers this time. Also a fun fact: the Final Flash is the strongest attack of the entire saga according to the author and would have obliterated Cell if he didn’t sidestep at th last second, and the music that plays when Vegeta charges the Final Flash is a rescoring of Vegeta’s super saiyan theme from the early 2000’s dub
I really hope one of those lines is "You couldn't fathom the *this space intentionally left blank* behind me.", it's one of my favourites :D

The voice actor for Android 18 (and android 16) absolutely killed their roles (pun intended).
Amber Lee Conners was 18, you might recognise her as the lead character in "Komi Can't Communicate".
Something interesting about the final flash. Akira toriyama said that the final flash was the strongest blast in the Cell saga. Yes it was stronger than Gohan's Father Son Kamehameha. And the only reason cell survived was because at the last second cell did dodge the attack but it obviously clipped his side off
There's an implication that Trunks' presence in this timeliness caused Gero to alter his plans with the androids, as in the original timeline 17 and 18 were busy killing people, but here Gero tried to increase their power but had less time to remove their humanity and ultimately decided he couldn't use them. And, indeed, he couldn't.

@ChicagoReacts World Strongest is not an issue I would say. Chronically it fits somewhere pre episode 10 part 2 / e.g. nowhere at all. It us just that Broly refers to it and it is one of the later movies TFS dubbed so quality wise it fits better with the last few.
In Trunks' defense, he is his father's son.
Also, the thing with regeneration is it still takes energy to grow things back, so I'm guessing they were hoping Vegeta would have done enough damage to Cell that regenerating half of his body would be too much for his reserves or it would still leave him severely weakened. Either way, they greatly underestimated just how much power Cell had in reserve and seeing him grow his left side back so easily demonstrated just how powerful Cell really is and how screwed they are.
I love that thing that finally starts getting Vegeta to respect Trunks is Trunks attacking him. Such a hilarious and perfect moment for their relationship.

Despite everyone always being hyped for the finale, I think 51 is the peak DBZA for me, with all the great songs and callback jokes. It's just Perfect.
And yeah, they haven't killed anyone, aside from Dr. Gero and 18 jumping on cars on the highway and Vegeta killing the drivers while chasing her. Them having 16 around in this universe had his pacifism rubbing off on them, unlike in the Trunk's universe where they're just killing everyone for the lols. And Cell really hasn't lied ever. Everyone assumes there's some typical villain scheme, but Cell has always been perfectly honest with what he does or what he's planning to do.
Not fully sure, but I think they had admitted back in the day that Krilling figuring out Trunks hiding his strength was a writing error, but they may have come up with some sort of reasoning in their commentary, don't fully remember.
I think I only prefer Episode 30 part 2 over this episode, but yeah, from here on out is _definitely_ peak DBZA altogether!

In krillins defense, he has died twice in the series. He understands more than the others the significance of taking someone's life.
my favorite thing about perfect cell is he once tried to call vegeta prince and vegeta shut him down, now he ONLY calls him prince to show how much higher he is now. its so patronizing lmao
To be fair, in the actual version, Goku was going too easy on Gohan and it was making him frustrated, so he demanded for Goku to do that. It was actually a really serious and drawn out scene in the actual anime.
The intro song is a parody of Giant Woman from Steven Universe, which if you haven't watched you absolutely should. It's a fantastic series.
I don't think Goku would have let Cell evolve. Goku wouldn't purposefully sacrifice a person’s life for a better challenge.

10:07 Really "Androids" 16, 17 & 18 from this timeline didn't kill anyone yet, fact: bunch of people died during her battle with Vegeta on a highway, but it was more of Vegeta killing them not her, she just dodged his attacks. AFAIR Vegeta even said during their battle something like: "I'm fine with killing all of those people as long as you will be one of them". Android 19 and 20 (Dr. Gero) on the other hand are completely different story, not to mention Cell - they've killed a bunch of random people.
Now you see why Trunks was screaming at the end of episode 50, because he knew Vegeta would allow Cell to absorb 18 for a better fight.
Fun fact: at 17:04, Cell was singing his own theme song from the actual show!

29:28 btw this attack right here only happens in the anime, and while it's a good character moment for Krillin it kinda... It's not like it strictly doesn't make sense, but krillin's attack canonically was a technique he developed that could cut anything, it basically ignored power levels which was supposed to show that a) power level isn't everything and that b) our underdogs were crafty, that's how he was able to cut freeza's tail, and while theoretically it's not unthinkable to see a difference so great that it's not effective anymore it really did sort of put the final nail on Krillin but also any human character being useful unless you bullshit their power level up

I did rewind on your video to listen to the Perfect Cell intro song again which is something I often do when I see this song in reactions because it's just so good. But then it was kinda awkward because when I continued you went back and watched it again yourself lol

The thing of Krilling talking about how many times he's been hit and then jumping to the topic of accusing Trunks of holding back was something the creators of DBZA admitted to be a bit of a confusing bit of dialogue with a jump in logic. They wanted to Krillin to say he knew Trunks was holding back but they didn't iron out that part too well.
Cell smashed the Goku Button so hard he broke it for the rest of the season.

I find it hilarious that the original German version of final flash has Cell saying the exact same thing before getting hit and in English at that.
Your thinking of android 19 and 20 (the old man and clown). 17 & 18 just drove around, trolled some officers, knocked out the z fighters/ broke vegetas arms abs left them alive, threatened/stole from a retail clerk, & blew up a forest. Honestly, vegeta killed more ppl in his fight with 18.

Krillin destroying the remote and not blowing up 18 is completely undefendable and his worst moment in the entire the entire series. It's almost the dumbest thing anyone in the franchise ever did, and that's including Super.

Its one of my favorite moments in the whole show and I really dislike how they did that part because it takes away from the amount of courage and willpower gohan has to become great. 28:38 Personally, I disagree for the TFS timeline. Gohan absolutely refused to dodge. He has always refused to dodge. And basically every time, someone else has died for it. Even in a sparring match where Goku outright says afterwords “Yeah that wasn’t even close to trying, I purposefully made sure it wouldn’t kill him even if Gohan didn’t dodge” Gohan just stood there and tried to catch it, praying for literally anyone to take the blast for him. TFS Gohan has some issues, ones that come to a head especially during the Cell saga. Gohan needed to either A: Become Super Saiyan and be strong enough that dodging didn’t matter or B: Stop forcing others to sacrifice themselves for his constant refusal to get out of the way.
TFS keeps referencing Pavlov. So I don't think it's a choice to 'not dodge' with this version of Gohan. We've even seen characters freeze up in canon-verse.
On the bright side Gohan has managed to saved the same ppl who saved him at some point.

the difference between goku and vegeta is that while both would let the oponent power to 100% before the fight, goku would never let them do it by killing/absorbing someone.
I know people have talked about the Final Flash being strong enough to kill Cell, but I don't think I've seen anybody say just how strong the move was. According to Akira Toryiama himself, the Final Flash Vegeta used on Cell is one of the top three most powerful attacks in Dragon Ball history. Cell just took a page from Piccolo's book and took a step to the left at the very last fraction of a second.
