She always seemed wonderful. Gorgeous woman, smart, and a terrific voice.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, Emily was a schoolteacher.
Why couldn't he say that?
That's why Bob hesitated to tell Emily about what Amy became a school teacher.
@@c.y.hollander5592 Because it's basically an insult about his ex settling for being a school teacher which Emily does for a living hence he'd be dead if he said that lol.
Thanks, I had completely forgotten that. Great comedy back then, they didn't explain the jokes, you had to watch closely and keep up!

Suzanne's movie debut was "Rome Adventure" (1962), with Troy Donahue. She was perfectly beautiful in her portrayal of a strong and wise young woman aptly named Prudence.

I'm still laughing all these years later. I also love their bedroom with the matching blankets, pillowcases and lamp shades~~~ so pleasant on the eyes.
I had the same bed comforter set as a kid. But I never noticed that they had matching lamp shades. Good catch.

Brilliant joke! This kind of humor is just missing these days. Bob Newhart's intelligent, subtle and witty humor isn't anywhere on today's sitcoms. This show's writing and casting was top notch!

Bob's dear buddy Rickles and the wives Ginny and Barbara from the family films of their vacations together posted here on U. of Tube had such different comic timing. Da Rickleses were way too fast for these simpler, slower, subtler even sublime comic charms. Shame that both couples (Newhart's real life wife Ginny and the reaction-shot underrated and under-sung TV wives) along with Don and Barbara Rickles never got cast into one hour-long sit-com to get US through our temperamentally contrasting week....

@@billruland1494 I think there was only 1 complete set of those bed-linen ever manufactured & sold. We've just been passing em around with the matching lamp-shades (and no doubt wall-paper). Last couple outta bed make sure to launder........

During the final scene of Newhart where she makes a guest appearance, you can really hear the grittiness in her voice. It doesn't take away anything, but it was very noticeable.
She was from that generation.

On "Newhart," wealthy Japanese investors had bought the Inn from Dick and planned to turn into a golf resort. After dreaming he (Dick) was hit in the head with a golf ball, Bob woke up next to Emily. The final episode is GREAT, be sure to watch it all sometime.
It’s a reference to the infamous thanksgiving episode where Bob, Jerry, Howard, and Bob ordered lots of moo goo gai pan.
I’ll take more goo to go (even tho it’s Chinese) over a spoiler to the greatest series~ending episode any day.
