I was in the audience during this episode. I was 14 years old, sitting in the stands where you could see the actors backstage. After one of Chris Farley’s scenes he went offstage and I waved from my seat saying “Hey Chris!” He looked up, ripped off his shirt and started flexing as if he was a bodybuilder and I just started cracking up. I remember it like it was yesterday.

Up in heaven, Bill Dailey just greeted his old buddy with a fantastic "Hi, Bob!". Godspeed, sir. You were one of the funniest men I have ever encountered. Hugely influential to modern comedy. Not many could claim to influence Monty Python, prime time TV through 2 #1 sitcoms, the most incredible finale in television history (his wife's brilliant idea back in season 2), and modern, understated, and wickedly dry humor.
Hard to find skits with Chris Elliot. I find him very underrated.

A lot of Chris’s work, he played such weird, kind of creepy characters. That make have hurt his longevity. Though he did have his Fox TV series. Then he was in Schitts Creek, playing another creep, at least at first.
I’m a big fan of his dad’s Bob and Ray radio show. Chris’s daughter was on SNL, really talented family. I hope Chris in content with his career.

I grew up watching Chris Farley and Phil Hartman it is sad the both died so tragically
@glacier1982 Hartman was ranked in top ten SNL cast members of all time. HE'S NOT. But the ranking proves how respected he was and how much respect is given to the fact that his death cut greatness short, he had double the career to have and the twenty first century to make 10 times more money in as he didn't make much money at all. The thing is that people born in late 80s through late 90s grew up with their parents watching and talking about Farley etc and then they saw most of these guys in movies as the whole cast for over a decade was dominating the big screen. Tommy Boy wasn't a box office success it's a cult following movie because of Farleys death, it's an example of his greatness and what is being missed...the generation that didn't see Hartman live doesn't have a connection like that to understand or enjoy the man. There is not status quo or standard to point to and go oh hey this is what he provided and then it enhances everything you see the person do. Hartman was defined by SNL and Improv origins and simply never starred in the sort of films that his peers were kicking out in the 90s. Chris Farley was so funny the studio approached him and spade about the movie without having a movie even written yet or an idea. Hartmant died being just moments away from starting his own project/ being in a movie with Lovitz and doing voice work for Futurama which was very successful. His death is just incredibly sad the way it happened where as Farley lived himself to death. His own lifestyle killed him and it was hardly the obesity playing much part in the equation.

It didn't help that it aired during what's widely considered a poor season for SNL.
Yeah, sadly the best chance this has of reairing is when Bob passes away, and because it was during the "Saturday Night Dead" season, they would likely reair Bob's first hosting gig from 1980 instead
while this sketch was funny ...that was possibly the worst Lorne Michaels season ever.
I think my favorite part of this was watching Chris react to Elliot falling down, crawling to and finally sloppily hugging Bob. His laugh after Elliot says "I love you" to Bob was the best. And there's no question why, given Chris's history, Elliot was chosen to be the falling down drunk.

I was in college in the early 80s and we had different rules. You use a mug of beer. Took a swig when they said Bob, downed it when they said Hi Bob.
Those were the rules I learned.

Most underrated sketch in SNL history? Possibly.
The polar bear zoo skit, which was Adam Sandler's last skit, is very underrated too.
If there was a drinking game for every time someone on RUclips called something "underrated", we'd all be hammered.

I played "Hi, Bob" for how many times this was shared on social media just 3 weeks ago. I was only just discharged from the hospital this evening after what was described as an "epic case of alcohol poisoning." My doctors were in awe of how quickly I managed to destroy the one organ we're born with that can heal itself; "Both Ripley's and Guinness are on their way!"

I counted the shots they did. It appears they did 20 shots within a 4 minute period in this skit. If the shots were actually alcohol, that would have rendered them unconscious, and would likely have led to respiratory arrest and eventual death. Of course, this was a skit, but you know some naive college-age and teenage kids are going to try and play "Hi Bob." The skit is still funny, but they should have displayed a warning message before the skit.

We used to play Hi Bong instead of doing shots. The two shows we never missed in college were Bob Newhart and David Letterman (during his late night NBC show)
I think Bob is the last cast member alive. He was on the Conan O’Brien show last season or two ago. My neighbor watches this show to this day. 😂😂
