Thanks PJ - this was an excellent warm up exercise for me! I do almost forensic analysis of each click you make but still managed to mangle it at the Boolean union as one of the objects wasn't a closed surface. I used "cap" command and closed it and it worked. Also great pace but it took me about 5 times longer to do than to watch 😀
Thank you SOOOOOOO much for these tutorials! I was stuck at 7:02, I'm using Rhino 6, the cross would go under the surface and the ends weren't vertical to the curved surface. The solution was to do the following: In the command bar select the following: "Base surface - select edge near a corner (Copy= YES Rigid=NO AutoAdjust=YES PreserveStructure=NO". Hope this helps someone else.
您好 I am a beginner studying on my own During the lockdown period, I had a hard time studying by myself, but your video gives me a great help, you makes my day,顺祝~
Thank you for this tutorial! I am new with Rhino, and would like to ask that when the second time I drew the ring, the diameter (17.3) didn't fit into the surface precisely. I left it like this, at the end the Boolean union cut off the cross, so I had to make the ringsize smaller (14.3) then it worked. I wonder where I went wrong..
without seeing your model, it is hard to know what exact happend on your model. if I have to guess, I will advice to check the distance on your base curve to the object. the object should sit exact on top of the base curve. there should not be any distance.
Hi, My rings tend to shrink 1/4 - 1/2 size smaller after the casting. Do you suggest making the ring 1/2 size bigger in CAD to avoid the shrinkage? Thank you for making wonderful videos
all 3d printer, casting and finishing process has different shrinkage and material waste. If you know exact shrinkage form cad to finish piece, you can add the difference on your cad.
Hello and thanks for this tutorial. My chamfered edges look a lot more "edgy" why yours look smooth after the chamfer. For example, on mine you can still see where exactly the chamfer happened. If I go to rendered, the reflection clearly shows the chamfer as it's kinda blocky. I hope that makes sense :) Any idea why that happened? I checked the chamfer settings and I have the same as yours.
I am stuck at 8:08 once I get to 'Select cross section curves'. Im not getting the option to choose both ends of the cross to complete the ring. If I try to select each edge it manually it says 'Unable to order shapes on rails'.
I'm stuck at final step! cant boolean union it. in analysis it shows 8 naked edges. I tried to fix them by patch, loft, join and it creates even more naked edges!
I cannot tell what went wrong without seeing the model. you can email me at pj@pjchendesign.com and write me a short description. I will take a look for you.

Try Fillet edges instead of chamfer edges
Thank you! I like your voice!
Thank you. Don't forget to check on the rest of them. We have a new video release every week.
really nice and helpful tutorials!
thank you!
Hi, did you bring the rendered object from key shot back into rhino? Or have you rendered this in rhino?
This is just in Rhino render mode. and I gave it a gold reflected material.
great tutorial, although i'm doing somting wrong, my cross is not a single close polysurface, i don't know how to get that.
Carola Fresow I am professional Jewlry cad designer with experience of 5 years .....may be I can help you. Let me knw ..
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Wonderful tutorial!! Questions: is there a command for duplicate edge in the menu bar.
I usually just type it DupE. then it will show up. It is also living under curve-curve from the object- duplicate edge.
Thank for the quick reply, I've had problem selecting both edges, I had to select line by line and it didn't work out. Thanks so much.
It is possible that there are seams on the surface so the edge of the surface is in the segments. You can select them and join all the curves.
Thank you very much
Thank you very much
Good. Can you show us how did you color the ring please :D
Thank you so much. It was fast
Good evening~I am stuck at the final step. I can not get them together well. The under spider was shown “opened superficial”,thank you~

are your close section "close curves". If not, you need to join them first.
@@PJChenJewelryDesign thank you for the fast response. I did not join them correctly at first. I tried again now and it worked perfect. Thank you!
that is great!
