  • The Doctor is a character full of mystery, a time traveller with more faces than we know but just how old is the Time Lord? How many years has the Doctor been alive!
    This is a question I tried to answer when I first started on RUclips back in 2017 and it's safe to say times change. The Doctor's age is far from a simple thing to work out and the age of this timeless hero has developed a lot in the last 7 years! So join me in finding out how many birthday candles the Doctor needs on their cake haha.
    Subscribe for more things Doctor Who and a huge thanks to Vince Cox for his musical talents featured in this video and to Dylon for the 2024 time vortex!! Also to TARDISElliottTrailers for his video compilations of each Doctor used in part throughout the video.
    Have an epic day everyone and BE KIND!
    Allons-y!

    I feel asking about age with a character that ages way slower than us, travels through time, with unknown amounts of time even throughout a season is kinda pointless beyond "The Doctor is VERY old, numbers are mostly meaningless"

    • @billyyyn
      @billyyyn 20 дней назад +4

      my headcanon is after our doctor actually genuinely does die in the far far future, the tardis goes back to the earliest incarnations of the doctor and the pre-Hartnell doctors have the exact same tardis, but from the tardis' pov, Hartnell was the first. Prolly some plot hole in there somewhere still but it's better than the alternative

    If you count recent revelations and factor in the 6th Doctor comments about Time Lords being around 10,000,000 years, that would be a decent starting point.

    Last time I did the math starting with the 1st doctor to the 13th i landed at 4000. We don't know how long she was in Prison, then we don't know exactly what the bigeneration entails but assumeing 14 will later regenerate into 15, we don't know how long 14 lives then so 15 idk.

      I say the timeless child is a lie from the Master. There’s too much coincidence. And I hope the bi-generation thing gets fixed, it was something that could’ve been ended after the Toymaker got defeated instead of drawing it out

    • @tgiacin435
      @tgiacin435 20 дней назад +2

      I would say the Doctor is around 4000. But I’ve also heard a theory he started count again after the time war, supposedly putting him at 1900 instead of 900 in series 1. But that just feels like a way to fix RTD’s mess ups

    My head canon is that when the Doctor gave up his name and became the War Doctor, he reset his age but then continued with that number following the time war. Given that the First Doctor died of old age at about 450, there's potential for the potion he was given on Karn to have extended his later lifespans, explaining how War could be approaching 900 and Eleventh could have lived over 1000. Which would add another thousand or so years onto the new who age.
    I also tend to accept that the Doctor is always using Earth terms to describe his age given that in most scenarios he would be describing it to humans. I am of course only counting the main show here, as I think there's just too much stuff in the greater expanded universe for it to be in anyway understandable. And I don't even want to try and accept the Timeless Child stuff because not even the show bothered with it, and then we're assuming that was in fact the first incarnation which was kidnapped, it's all too messy.

  • @DoctorHowTV
    @DoctorHowTV 20 дней назад +1

    If he was a 90 year old man at the start of the reboot, Rose Tyler would be a 2 year old baby. That's the kind of age gap we're talking about.

    10th Doctor -"The timelords. The oldest and the most mighty race in the universe."
    Rassilon "A Billion years of Timelord history riding on our backs.."
    Since the Timeless child established the doctor, preceding the very concept of a Timelord civilisation.
    He's practically the oldest thing in our universe or one of them.
    At this point it doesn't matter anymore..

    Also if we do count the confession dial years as well as the Pre-Hartnell Doctors The Doctors age is at least 5.5 Billion years old which for the age of a person is a very scary number, especially considering that the Earth is only around 4.5 Billion years old making The Doctor depending on how you count it being 1 Billion years older than the Earth itself! And bear in mind that 1 Billion years at the beginning could be a very conservative estimate considering that the Doctor at least as we know them in our time has a habit of traveling for hundreds of years and then showing up a year later casually adding centuries between seasons going from 450 to 750 to 900 to 2100 in just 60 years relative to the outside Universe just imagine the cumulative effect this habit would have over the course of over a Billion years worth of history!

    I did a lot of digging through every media source, last time I did the maths I had an overall age for the doctor at 5,035 years old but now I could probably add another thousand years on to that with unknown incarnations and what showrunners have said about the new who incarnations lives. Thirteen was tricky because all she alluded to was her being over a thousand years, although spent a few decades (30) in space prison, 5 earth years (33), and a 10 year time gap during the specials. Which makes her incarnation lived 73 years. In a mobile game she has a 5,000 year old diary. Fourteen exaggerated a billion years, RTD thinks he lived until 2063. 14th lives for 41 years

    you think the Doctor's age is one billion years old?

    • @TheWhoniverseYT
      @TheWhoniverseYT  21 день назад +3

      Honestly it's a mess but my logic not only stems from the countless bodies and years the Doctor doesn't remember from being found by Tecteun, working for the division and the memory wipe. The fact we have no idea how long the Doctor was serving the division and Time Lord society as it was being built but also the fact we have no idea how much life the Doctor had lived before being found.
      The Doctor was found beneath a monument and wormhole as 13 says she could have been waiting for someone or sent through from another universe. She could've lived multiple lifetimes already before even meeting Tecteun.
      All the timeless child stuff really adds a lot of mystery to it all. The fact Time Lord history has lasted roughly 1 billion years in linear time suggests to me it's a good estimate for the Doctor's age as they seem to act relative to the planets history.
      It's extremely complicated but I'd love to hear your thoughts and everyone else's! Of course I can get things wrong and knowing for sure is pretty impossible but I love a good bit of research and theorising 😁😁

      @@TheWhoniverseYT what an interesting and thoughtful answer. I think the era of the 13th Doctor ruins everything. Also I don't think the time the 12th Doctor spends smashing through diamond walls counts as 'real' time. No being is 1 billion years old, no consciousness - nor mind - could manage such a feat, even the Doctor. The Doctor is not God. A single consciousness lasting a billion years is also not possible to contemplate.
