I used to skate, I skated most of my life. Then I lost my leg in a car accident in 2009 ! I finally got a leg and went skating for the first time since loosing my leg ! It is on my channel if you'd like to see ! I hope one day I can get it back
Danielle, I watched your video and subscribed! Also may have cried a little. You are truly inspiring and courageous! I believe you will do great things! GET👏 IT👏 GIRL!
I’m a 70s baby so we did A LOT of skating in the 80s & very early 90s. We called that move ‘Shuffle’ when you freestyles really well it was then ‘Advanced Shuffle’ Good times. My mom use to advance shuffle like a pro. She’s in her 70s now & still holds her own in the rink.
We called it Jam skating since the early 80s. We would compete in speed skating and during the lunch break we would have a “Jam Session” , so we called it jam skate. On Friday’s and Saturday’s, we had a total of 4 Jam skate sessions and would have 1 break dancing contest in the middle while others kept jam skating on the outside. Jam music would last 5-8 minutes per song, two songs per jam session. You will still find FAST jam skaters skate for full 10-15 minutes continuously without missing a beat.Indiana/Fort Wayne
Grew up in Florida and called it shuffle skating, moved to Ohio when I was 13 and they called it jam skating. Crazy how different parts of the country call the same thing something different
So long story short, was a skater & dancer my whole life, then hit hard with insane physical & painful trials past 3yrs!!!! I literally couldn't do anything. I'm starting to get better & went with our church to skate last night! I seriously almost cried while skating. All the fun & emotions came flooding bk in my heart & soul! I am going bk every week to skate by myself for some soul healing! Thx for this! I'm am so excited to be bk on the rink! BTW I'll be 46 in Feb. You are never too old!
This is perhaps my favorite movement. When younger i tended to bend more at the knees for a lower stance adding a "pump" on the front leg as I transitioned the other leg to the back. Now as I have grown older it resembles more along the lines you are presenting in this video! I have been quad skating since 70's and the move was popular even then.
This is the best tutorial on Truckin!! Im 47 and skated pretty much since I was 3. After 20 years of not skating, rink closed or moved etc. I'm back at it! And love it in my Vanilla Jams! Yours is the best video other videos have people interrupt the commentator etc. I subscribed!! Thanks! 😊
We also called it Jam Skating back in the early 80’s. I finally got another pair of skates after all these years. Now I just need to get my skate legs back.
Man I’m in my forties. I spent many a weekend in the mid 80s at the rink. I just bought a pair of skates for the first time in over 30 years and I’m super excited. Thanks for the vid!
I Started Jam Skating in the 70's Washington D.C. Kalarama Rink. Truckin', Crazy Legs, Flipping Over the Rail and Grinding the Rail w/ your Right Foot was a Norm for the SK8-Profeez.
We were truckin in 1983 down in mississippi so it must date back to the '70's probably, the disco days. We would have contests on who could have the fastest footwork at top speed..... good times
This step, like much of jam skating, arose from disco dancing in the 70's. I was in high school, bopping, sliding and cruising (trucking) on my "figure 4" skates🛼🤩💙💙
It was called Jam skating at "my" rink in So Cal in the late 80's and early 90's. :) I'm here because I'm looking into getting a pair of Solaris boots. Yours are so pretty! ;)
Let them know,to pick up those feet, and place them into position, and if they do that, their feet should fall into position on beat.So you lift right to the back, place it down, life the front, place it down,so the timing is up foot1,down foot 1,up front2,down foot 2.Then as you get advanced it's like Plant foot 1,pivot1,plant position 2,pivot back to original position,etc,etc..
When we were doing that in 75 we called it freestyle ‘Shuffle Skate’. Before that there was a live organist playing on a riser stage or crappy AM radio in playing mono. The Shuffle was a product of Disco/R&B, think Cool and the Gang.
I had not heard it either until about two years ago. The people I heard it from are the younger Jam Skaters who follow the style that was popularized when the VNLA skate company got big.
Where I grew up in NJ we called it shuffling. But it wasn't a specific move. Would always do it in groups of at least 2 and would make up our own routines.
I never knew what this move was called, so I could never find videos on it ! Thank you so much now I can practice this and learn to get up to speed with everyone else 🤣
I tried this today and almost fell. I’m having trouble keeping the front wheels of the back foot level! Will try more next week! Thanks for this video!
I’ve been working on this but my foot wobbles like crazy when I bring it behind on the toe. I don’t know if I need more pressure on it or what. This vid was just in time, Thank You!
Yes, mine too! I was thinking maybe my skates aren’t lined properly, or the truck is too loose but I’ve tighten and loosened the truck and it does the same thing. So idk at this point 🤷🏾♀️
@@MsDee1778 I worked on it and just had to get used to doing it and I also applied a slight amount of pressure while practicing and I got it! I go to the rink twice a week and practice at home, it took some time but now I can do it without thinking
Me and my friends do this and even learned new tricks like moving to the left the bringing your right leg behind the left then go to the right then bring the left in the air not on the ground
A plate that doesn’t flex too much doesn’t hurt, I’ve loved skating and dancing on my skates since I was a kid. Due to migraines and dizziness I haven’t been able to even use my skates in over a year
When I used to skate I don't remember anyone ever doing any type of moves. I've started taking my kids the last few months and everyone is doing moves. So I've been slowly learning. Trucking is my favorite cause it can be so fun!
Trucking, bouncing, boogie skating, and boogie bounce. I've never heard it called Jam Skating since that refers to a specific style of skating. Which is complex in itself since it encompasses several other styles and disciplines such as; Rhythm, JB, Breakdance, Gymnastics, Artistic, and more to accomplish the various move sets. Call it whatever you want, but I would be a little thrown off if someone told me they jam skate and end up only going on the floor and boogie skate the whole session. Nothing wrong with that, but specifying your style helps a lot.
I hear you! At the time we called it that, the cumulative style of jam skating today wasn’t really around. Rhythm and dance styles, sure.. but jam skating as it exists today wasn’t a thing yet.
Cool video. Just getting back into jam skating after a pretty big hiatus. Had a set of Hard Candies in the mid-late 90s that are now long gone. Trying to educate myself on jam skates (we always called them speed skates back then), but, low cut boot with no/short heel. Do you have any recommendations on where to start? Would building up my own boot be a better option? No real budget constraints but I would like something durable, maybe a bit more modern, if skates have any improvement since the 90s.
I'm in the market for my first pair of Jam skates. Any recommendations would be awesome. Currently at the top of my list are Bonts Jam Skate. I'm diggin your channel and excited to start this Jam journey.
I took my older kids who are now in there twenties skating regularly when they were kids since skating rinks were still around. Now there’s only a real rink about an hour away in the next county so sadly I can’t enjoy this activity with my younger kids as often if ever . There is a sports complex in the next town with some strange dence rubber mat in place of a wooden floor and they do host roller hokey and occasional skate sessions. I was shocked to notice kids do not know how to skate (my kids can) majority are staring at the cell phone while moms in there 40’s are out there getting it.

The same in Kentwood mi. Kentwood Arena in the 1980 on. We didn't really have to name things so much then.....

I really don't think this can be taught... It has to be felt💯
Yes! It's a "both-and."
I wish it could be taught but I agree, it must be felt.
