    Super informative!
    I am looking into picking up a pair of SVH customs for recreational (non-hockey) public sessions. I would like to maximize comfort, and I don't care at all about blocking shots (no pucks or sticks involved) - which tongue would you recommend out of the entire list for maximum comfort? Better yet, what would your maximum comfort build from top to bottom be for the SVH customs without caring about hockey/puck protection? Thanks a ton!

      If you’re getting the SVH, for you I’d be getting the Black or White Felt tongues, Moisture Wicking interior and Flex Tendon Guards as options.

    So I’ve been a Bauer Supreme user my whole life, and I decided to get custom skates in July. Originally wanted the Mach customs, but had lace bite on top of my right foot with the Mach, so I opted for True SVH’s. Now I hear different things from other True users in the past (Before Catalyst and SVH), that the true blade holder is a completely different shape and height from CCM and Bauer holders, and it takes a bit to get used too. I’ve always used Bauer Pulse steel, so I’m thinking I will go for the Tuuk holder, but is the True holder all that different from Bauer and CCM holders, and would a Bauer holder make the experience not that great on a True skate being that it’s from a different company and not entirely made for that skate? I ask because I got the call today that my True SVH’s arrived, but the people at Pure Hockey want to know what holder I will be putting on. If you could respond that would be terrific.
    Edit: Now if I opted for the True holder, would I be able to put Bauer steel in it?

      So the biggest problem with the “getting used to” them part is that most people giving feedback are getting their skates “profiled” at Pure. Pure doesn’t profile, they contour. Pulse steel you’re use to is 2mm taller on the toe than the heel when installed in the holders, making you stand on your heels. True Shift steel is set to be Neutral, as it based on Step steel. This means the heel and toe heights are the same(usually around 16mm). The same “profile” will therefore throw you forward in the True’s because of this, hence the adjustment people mention. The CCM and Bauer holders are the same design more or less, to exist in the same space. The True holder is 3mm taller, as the original design was for the steel to be 3mm shorter, to save weight. It also out the steel further from the boot, generating more torque, and therefore less effort to exert the same force in your stride. My honest suggest is to stick with the Shift holder with Max steel, or go with CCM XS holders if you’re not a fan of the Shift because of internet creep. CCM holders have more options in steel than Bauer.
      As to putting Bauer blades in Shift holders, the answer is no. Square peg, round hole.

    After years wearing Bauer customs, I’ve discovered why I struggle with skating drills. I moved up to True TF9s, and suddenly edge drills are easy: powerpulls, crossrolls, Russian stroking etc. The damned Bauers don’t provide enough support. I have wide forefeet and narrow ankles. I wonder how many people are like me? My next skates will also be true, custom or Hzrdus. I am impressed that I get custom level comfort from stock boots.

    Great video. Can you comment on the stiffness of the boot? Would these be stiffer than top of lines skates from bauer/ccm? Hows the forward flex on the true skates? I'm a female adult hockey player and because of my small skate size (size 3.5) I'm slotted in junior skates. I tired skating in size 4 Bauer supreme 2s but I couldn't get the forward flex when tied to top eyelet. It's helps when I drop an eyelet. I've been told I'm a Bauer fit 1 size 3.5 so i get the feeling the the 2S are not really meant for my foot shape. I'm want a high performance skate but I'm not sure if I'll get that from a Bauer/CCM junior skate....they seem soft when you squeeze the boot. So thinking about True customs to get the proper size and performance. Any thoughts?

    • @bsharpottawa
      @bsharpottawa  2 года назад +1

      If you want more forward flexibility, my suggestion is the Catalyst Pro. They are designed to give more flexion. The guys we’ve moved from the TF to Cat series have commented on how much more speed they have gained through the flexion in the boot. That said, depending on the tech fitting you, you can most likely get away with the Catalyst 9 skate in a Junior. The skates in junior size only come in a R width at that size aka narrow. I would compare a top end Bauer with the SVH in stiffness. I would compare the Catalyst with an old Graf, Easton or Mission

    I’m about to go get scanned for my own pair of SVH customs but I just can’t decide on what to do for the holders. The guy I talked to has said that they get lots of true holders and steel that snap or break, both player and goalie. Besides that, I already have 2 pairs of step steel for Bauer lightspeed edge.
    I’m also not sure about the tongue. I like the feel of the true pro custom tongue, but I play defense for a college club team and I block a lot of shots. Getting the shot block material for sure but I can’t decide between the pro custom or met guard. Any advice?

    • @bsharpottawa
      @bsharpottawa  2 года назад

      I’ve got Mason McTavish in today, and he’s got the Trues with the Shift Max holders. It’s a great holder, and a big upgrade over the OG Shift holder. I personally have the Shift holders as well. If you’re changing holders, go CCM XS, not Bauer.
      The Pro tongue is the light weight tongue, and comes with a guard. It’s thin, comfortable, and comes with the T-Guard. If you’re taking a ton of shots and like the felt tongue option, go with the met guard as it ONLY comes on felt. It sounds like you should have CSW Blockers installed externally as well.

      @@bsharpottawa oh wow cool! As for holders, why do you recommend ccm over Bauer? I’ve not really been a fan of the screw-like release but I can get the appeal of step steel. What do you think about true’s DLC steel that the customs come with?
      I’m based in the US but I am considering shot blockers, do you guys do any sort of non-local stuff like how some shops will let you mail in blades to be contoured? I also tuck my tongue under my shin pads so I might stick with the lightweight as the met guard didn’t seem to go super far down, and besides I like the material of the pro custom tongue more. Not saying felt is bad
      Thanks so much for the response, the only hockey store close enough for me to go to in person is over an hour’s drive so this is incredibly helpful

    • @bsharpottawa

      I recommend the CCM over the Bauer blades, because of something gets lose over time, you can tighten them with a knob. You can’t get a “little bit more” out of the Edge trigger system. I think the True Shift Max holders and DLC steel are fantastic. I don’t think you need to put on Bauer/CCM holders. If your swapping holders, the ONLY other holder I’d suggest is the Marsblade i2(which has the same DLC steel as True).
      I 100% do mail in contouring. If you ship them in, I can get them back to within a week I’d say. We do lots of it. If you’re looking for a US based place for it, I’d suggest either Bay Area Hockey Repair(BAHR is run by Essan) or Pro Skate Balance(Wally is one of the OG guys of technical sharpening) for contouring.

Would love to swap out for that thin tongue you were showing. Can i buy from you guys directly? Haven't been able to find them online. Thanks in advance!!

    Is it possible to order the cat pro with out a holder pre installed? This past season I went through two pairs of cat 9’s , first pair came with warped steel, then the holders wouldn’t keep the steel in, kept coming out with aggressive skating , got a 2nd pair also came with warped steel and a misaligned holder, true swapped it out for the dlc, but after realigning the holder it didn’t feel right. So swapped them out for Tuuks(that way I could use pulse ti steel that I have from my machs)and have been happy since . So ideally I’d like to get a cat pro with no holder pre installed and just have a new holder of choice put on.

      Nope, you have to order them with the holders installed. The SVH is the only one with that option.

    How do we know which route we should go? After the foot scan will there be a recommendation on which skate to get?

    • @bsharpottawa
      @bsharpottawa  2 года назад

      Your tech at your foot centre should know how to recommend which skate you should get. The Cat Pro is really built for people who have size discrepancies between feet or slightly irregular sizing. The SVH is for anyone with abnormal issues like bone spurs and foot issues. Size 14 feet? Get the SVH. One size 9 and the other size 8? Get the Cat Pro.
