Good video, but its important to know you missed quite a few things that differentiate the modes other than the obvious. Range and Normal mode deactivate Launch Control. Porsche Active Aerodynamics are off in Normal mode. Sport mode will enable Launch Control and battery cooling to support continuous load. Sport mode also enables 1st gear and the shift to 2nd gear when accelerating. 1st gear is disabled in Range and Normal mode. Porsche Active Aerodynamics are on in Sport mode which means the rear spoiler will go up in 3 stages depending on your speed or if you are in LC mode and will retract back down when you come to a stop. Recuperation is enabled in Sport Mode to assist with braking or lead in braking. Sport and Sport Plus also change the feel and ratio of the steering wheel from Normal and Range. Some other things as well, but these are the key feature changes :)
Very nice overview Mason, as usual. Just a few more comments on range mode. As you say the car will switch to front wheel drive when cruising and it does this by disengaging the rear motor by using its rear transmission. This is unique for the Taycan as most other all wheel drive EVs have permanent magnet motors in front and back and thus cannot ever fully disengage the rear. The Tesla Model S gains efficiency by using an induction motor in the rear which does free spin but is not as efficient for cooling as the permanent magnet motor which is why Tesla switched to that motor type in the front of the model S in 2019. Secondly I strongly suggest remembering that range mode lowers the car and that arriving at charging stations often has clearance challenges, thus switching to normal mode is highly recommended. Another note is that Sport+ mode is not fully available without the Sport Chrono feature. You have the suspension setting but not the driving mode as I recall. I have Sport Chrono and fully appreciate the steering wheel control and the clock is very Porsche. 😉
Great Vid again:-) Now I have a question, how the hell are you having the light map in the navi in front og you? Mine is dark day and night. Even though I have it set to automatic day/night in the PCM
With the latest software update (late 2022) isn't so that in range mode it is the rear motor that is used instead of the front engine? Also in normal mode when two engines are not needed?
Mason. Another great video. Would you recommend getting the sports chrono package? How much of a must have is this? Or okay to stick with using the screen to make the mode changes ?
I don't believe this is a must have for the Taycan! For other Porsche sports cars yes! You can stick with the PCM screen or center console display to change over to sport mode and instrument cluster to change PASM stiffness to Sport Plus 👍🏼
@@Pcarwhisperer thank you Mason! Your advice has helped me make a few wise choices -- and more importantly, saved me from making "fear of missing out choices"...I would say close to avoiding $6000 worth of options I don't need!
You should’ve gone more into Sport mode and how the car automatically lowers at higher speeds and talk more about the gears etc like you did for Normal and Range.
On the long run . Is it OK to switch modes from Range to normal and sport with of course hight changes while driving . I mean does it effect the suspension and maybe you can do it few times but it is better to do it when the car stops
I think there was one time that my dashboard interface was changed slightly that it showed the mode I was then using but also showed the neighboring modes. I am not sure if there was an update. The reduced interface was also changed a bit by showing me the music information that it wouldn’t show before. However, the next day I drove it, the dash interface was switched back what it was before.
@@greenrbtsiqi 🤔 Have you been into your dealer to preform the newest update that is not able to be performed over air? It goes by WMA6 on the 2021! But I am thinking that the change in instrument cluster(dashboard) may have been due to an update. Are your settings saved to a profile?
Great question! Not exactly how it changes the car just yet with the exception of it enhances the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) when on poor quality roads! Once I have more information I will make a video on it 👍🏼

Thanks Mason for a very useful, informative video. Excellent factual presentation.
Thank you for the kind words John!
Another great job. I still don't know how to get a hold of you when it comes time to get another car. What dealership are you at?
Thank you Charles! 🙏🏼 Please send me an email at pcarwhisperer@gmail.com
Very good video, going to use individual to ”at the crocery store parking”- mode with lowest chassis and sport sound on in my Cross Turismo. 😜
Thank you! Love your thinking! Congrats on your Cross Turismo... such a cool car! 😎

Great question! Yes you can switch drive modes from Range to Normal while driving.. not a problem at all. It is okay for the suspension as well 👍🏼

Range mode also deploys the spoiler to position 1 at 55 mph
