How Reliable is the New 2024 Nissan Patrol/Armada Y62? Why Arab Patrol over Armada?

  • The Nissan Patrol/Armada Y62 has been in production since 2010, and updates have been limited to facelifts only. Initially, the Patrol was offered with two engine options: the 5.6 L VK56DE and VK56VD. However, in the latest facelift, the version with distributed injection was removed, and instead, a 4.0 L VQ40DE V6 engine was introduced (for the UAE market). The transmission remains unchanged, utilizing the old Jatco automatic transmission JR711E/RE7R01B, which was based on the durable JR710E/RE7R01A automatic transmission. Let's also discuss the suspension and the reliability of the HBMC (Hydraulic Body Motion Control) system.

    If I cannot drive a Mercedes-Benz Geländewagen, it will have to be a Patrol. Toyota uses engines from Yamaha, Isuzu and Mazda. See, I do my homework. Also, unlike Landcruiser, Patrol has proper diff breathers, just like the G-Klasse.

    The VQ40DE uses almost the same fuel consumption as the VQ56VD, there's absolutely nothing special about it other than saving on initial purchase and then having a sluggish slow car. I own the VQ56DE patrol and I'am happy with it clocking 320,000km with no issues. The only major thing that I replaced is the radiator and power steering assembly which broke due to jumping hard on large speed bumps in Dubai.(Note: The steering assembly leaked oil but it kept working fine all the time, the service advisor said it can only be replaced which is much easier and cost effective).

    I just bought a 2020 Armada (68,000 miles) basically for its Tow Capacity (rated 8500lbs), I'm not as concerned about Fuel Milage as we use it primarily for fun (tow our vintage car) Sure would be great to get 22mpg as we did with our MBZ Sprinter Van but the Armada is more comfortable.

    • @thelonglastexpert
      @thelonglastexpert  2 месяца назад +1

      @@galaxyphone7784 The engine is quite reliable, but it's important to understand that direct fuel injection leads to carbon buildup on the valves, which needs periodic cleaning. It's hard to imagine a VK56VD engine going 500,000 km without a stretched timing chain or some other issue; such an engine requires maintenance, but with proper care, it shouldn't pose problems up to 300,000 km, as many issues have already been addressed by the manufacturer. You should understand that when buying a Armada with this engine, you're primarily buying power.

    • @galaxyphone7784
      @galaxyphone7784 2 месяца назад

      @thelonglastexpert great explanation, appreciated it. I think one or two carbon cleaning procedures and a possible replacement of the chain should be ok, I guess. Debating between the Armada and the 5.7 V8 Toyota Sequoia, both have their advantages, just like the Armada over the Sequoia.
